Projections mean nothing. They're assuming Miami is going to win a game!

True but you can throw out the Skins/NYG game. Thats one of those games where records do not matter. They dislike eachother enough to try and beat the hell out of eachother at all costs. Plus as bad as people say Grossman is, he's still keeping the Skins in games.

Atlanta is going to beat Jacksonville so I am merely hoping for another solid game from Blaine Gabbert. A good game from him may convince that front office to stick with him and not draft another QB.

While I dont disagree per se DD, the only 2 reasons I can think of is that...

    1) Their GM just signed an extension, and he doesn't want to admit a mistake just yet....

    2) they have 19.228 locked up in Gabbert for 4 years, with a possibility locking up another probably 20+ million in a QB if they take one....thats close to 40M gauranteed locked up to one position, which is kinda dumb...

do they trade Gabbert? Eh they arent getting anything for him, and would have to release him, thus still being on the hook for that money...

Again just my .02...Seattle being in the 13 hole scares the piss out of me, because he would trade everything to get into the Top 5...

    Updated GBN Mock:

    December 16
    · (10:00 AM): Canes lose two more to draft ... Miami has announced that both junior G/T Brandon Washington and DE Olivier Vernon have decided to skip their final college seasons and enter the 2012 draft. The 6-4, 315-pound Washington played LT for the Hurricanes, but is projected to be one of the top OGs in the upcoming draft class. Vernon, one of several Hurricanes suspended for the first half of the season for accepting improper benefits, has decent size (6-3, 265) and speed (4.75), but is considered to be only a marginal prospect. Miami has now lost five underclassmen to the 2012 draft, including RB Lamar Miller, WR Tommy Streeter and DT Marcus Forston. Meanwhile, there are reports that Stanford junior OG David Decastro of Stanford, a potential top 10-20 prospect this year, has also decided to enter this year’s draft according to sources at the school.

    December 15

    · (10:00 PM): USC OT to enter draft … Southern California junior LT Matt Kalil has reportedly decided to forego his final season of eligibility and enter the 2012 draft where he is expected to be a top 5 pick.

I agree ATL, if I were them,
buyers remorse has already set in, and I'am ready to move on from that guy..I hope they don't give up on him because of our situation but, if they don't they would be making two huge mistakes for that franchise.

Not seeing it, they fired Del Rio for benching Gabbert, that is as large a show of support a Franchise can show for a young Qb.

Jax takes Blackmon imo, if the Rams don't, if he is gone they go for that LSU Cb imo

it really doesnt matter till final Draft Order is set, and all underclass declare, etc. Once we know our spot and we know the pool of talent it will all sort itself out with who is who and what teams will need, and even who may trade to trade up, etc.

I fear once we beat Buffalo on Sunday we will be out of the running for Luck, Barkley and Griffin. We will either have to reach for another QB at 7or 8 or not take one at all.

Wrecked, shot, and lost? Really? Did you see Troy Aikman his rookie season? 52% completion, 9 TDs, 18 INTs, 55 QB Rating.

I figured it out! You got something against pretty boys!!! Hating on Gabbert and Cam! Also, its too early to judge Cam a success, but you've got enough information to judge Gabbert is wrecked????

He plays scared, this is one of the dangers of taking a Qb that high, if he hits the field and does things he did not show in college, you are screwed for 3 yrs.

I've never called Cam that, nor have I referred to him in that sense..His issues are much deeper..

As far as Gabbert goes, of course I take into account variables and experience before I project...and sometimes I see what I need to see positive wise, even though the numbers might not look good, and, sometimes I don't.....Gabbert game = me no'nos likey....I don't even like the way the man throws a football fundamentally, mechanically..lol.

Did not want to draft him coming out..

Your boy Cam blew the game last week huh??...All by himself too.. what a shame, right after his inspiring announcements to his team and all...lol..

This will not and can not happen. Everyone in the front office knows this, all the way up to Ross. In order to sell tickets you have to do one of two things 1.) win 2.) show hope for a bright future. If we bring in a young QB that will automatically help the front office sell tickets, all the while lower expectations. The fans will have hope for the future and want to pay money to go to the games and see the "Future of the Franchise." Kind of like what Cam Newton did for the Panthers. Their fans knew they most likely wouldn't be going to the Superbowl, much less the playoffs, but they all wanted to go to the games to see Cam.

I expect this to happen for us. Whatever it takes, I expect us to have either Barkley, Griffin III, or Luck. If we don't end up with one of those players there will be no way to pacify the fans attitude of indifference. New coach and new QB and you do that; all the while lowering expectations which is key. I think a big problem that happened when Sparano took over was that we got too good too fast. From a fans prospective its hard seeing your team go from 1-15 to 11-5 then to 7-9, then 7-9, and to 4-9.... It would have been much better for fans and ticket sales if it went 1-15 to 4-12, to 6-10, to 7-9 etc... If the fans can see growth they can get excited about the future. When you get good too fast your fans think your underachieving the following year when you go 7-9 and lose hope for the following year.

I deviated some (a lot) from my initial point, but bottom line a new coach and new QB brings back hope for the future all the while lowering expectations.

Indianapolis can clinch the #1 pick at the 2012 draft with a loss today against visiting Tennessee. The Colts can also wrap up the top pick this year if both Minnesota and St. Louis win their games later today, although both have tough games with the Vikings hosting New Orleans, while St. Louis will be at home against Cincinnati.

As usual, the full, updated selection order for this year’s opening round will be posted after the Monday night game tomorrow.

Root for MIN, STL, CAR, CLE today! And PHI, especially KC too....and keep an eye on MIA vs BUF...(:wink2:)

Let mepoint out that the whole notion of "you need a franchise Qb to win in the NFL=Draft a Qb in the first rd" is a fallacy, simply drafting a Qb with a high pick is a guarantee of absolutely nothing at all, you've only taken a Qb in rd #1.

As I've said, the overall level of talent on the offense simply has to improve for a start, Ireland has to step out of his comfort zone of blue collar guys or defensive players and take some swings at offensive skill position talent, in the draft, with high draft picks, even after the Turner&White picks did not pan out.

So far, Ireland's problem has not been identifying playmaking talent in the draft, it has been his stout refusal to use high picks to acquire it, see John Jerry over Jimmy Graham, Jerry may be a good OL for us, but like Pouncey, he does not score TD's, you need TD's to win games...

Nice try. He's a rookie. He will have a few bad games on his way to amassing over 4,000 yards passing, 750 yards rushing, 20 passing TDs and 15 rushing TDs. That's cool. Mistakes happen when you have to carry a team on your back.

I agree with you 100%. The problem is that Ireland is tied to the old ways of his mentor, Parcells. Parcells believed that you draft big offensive and defensive linemen in the first round and you can always get RB's and receivers in the later rounds. Parcells also wanted a QB who could manage a game, more than a QB who was the player the team was built around. Twenty years ago, this was the way the better teams were build.

Today that is no longer the case. The teams which today are the best teams in the NFL are the teams with the franchise QB's. Ireland doesn't seem to understand this and he seems to want to live in the past in regards to drafting play makers on the offense and on special teams. I do not trust Ireland to do what is necessary to draft the QB or play makers on offense this team needs to become a playoff contending team. That is why I have been calling for Ross to fire Ireland since the end of last season.

If Ireland remains the GM after the new coach in hired, it would not surprise me in the least if he doesn't trade down in the first round and picks another offensive lineman late in the first round. As far as the QB position goes, I expect him to draft the next Chad Henne in the second or third round and this will mean the Dolphins will remain a mediocre team for the foreseeable future. I certainly hope I am wrong, but I just don't believe Ireland has learned from his mistakes and that he is still trying to build the type of team which was a success twenty years ago, but not the type of team needed to win in the NFL today.

He's got game, I'am not denying that, and never have..But being a franchise QB has many layers, so the way he disrespected his franchise and other players around the league gives him no rookie cushion..Especially single handedly losing the game..

It was a mistake by the F.O. to take Jerry over Graham. It is important that a team take the play makers with the potential to be great when they have the opportunity. The most important play maker is obviously the QB. There should be several QBs in this draft with the potential to be great and the ones with the best odds of filling that potential will go in the first round. It would be a mistake for the F.O. to pass on that opportunity as well for any other position. In fact it would be a far more grievous mistake than the Jerry/Graham mistake. So drafting a QB in the first may not guarantee anything, but it gives you the best odds of finding a franchise QB compared to the minuscule odds of finding one in the later rounds or the odds of getting some vet in FA who will do more than have one good season and then leave you in the same spot.

The thing is that most people didn't view his comments as disrespectful. You noted yourself that you appeared to be "on your own" in that thread. My guess is that 99% of the players in the league didn't see it as disrespectful either.

And therein is the fallacy, EVERY Qb has the chance ot "be great" Rafi, the more talent around them, the better the chance.

    TJ Yates?

Not saying he is not a good Qb prospect, am saying you put a good OL and weapons that the Texans have around him and gosh, he plays well, put him on the Rams and what do you have?

Okay, I get it now. If one is a rookie, and said rookie disrespects his franchise and other players around the league (even though his teammates explicitly agreed with his comments), then he loses his "rookie cushion". I never got that memo. Under those rules, I guess you're right: Cam Newton is merely a QB with game, but he's no "franchise QB".

Well, the flip side to that is Peyton Manning on the Colts. Stick a healthy Manning on the Rams, and what do you have?

And with respect to the Dolphins, you stick a Manning, Brees, Rodgers, etc. on the team, and I'm pretty damn sure you'd have a playoff team.

It is going to be nearly impossible for the Dolphins to select Luck, Barkley, or Griffen. The Colts will take Luck and the Redskins will draft either Barkley or Griffin. I think that there is a very good chance the Dolphins will end up drafting after the Browns. The Dolphins might win one of their remaining three games and I don't see the Browns winning any of their remaining games. So if the Browns draft before the Dolphins, they will pick the QB which was not selected by the Redskins. It would also not surprise me if Jacksonville doesn't select one of these three QB's if any of them are on the board when their turn comes to pick in the first round.

Gabbert was the choice of the previous regime and if the new HC feels either Griffen or Barkley are better QB's and one of them is available when the Jags pick in the first round, I could easily see the Jags picking either of these QB's.

Unless the Dolphins are willing to make a blockbuster trade to move up to get one of the top three QB's, the Dolphins will be left with the lower tier QB's left on the board. Unfortunately I don't see any of the remaining QB's being the franchise QB of the future this team so desperately needs going forward.

Every QB may have a chance, but not every chance is equal. I really liked Yates in the draft b/c he had what I consider the right skill set to succeed. He also seemed to have slipped through the cracks a bit so his risk/reward ratio was very good. By that I mean that his odds of success was higher than the 5th round generally yields. People like to say that 1st round QBs only succeed 50% of the time. IMO that number is artificially low b/c some teams reach and take QBs in the first that don't belong there. But even at 50% those odds are astronomically better than the odds of finding your franchise QB in the later rounds. There are probably, on average, a dozen QBs taken after the first round each year. Of those you might have one or two that impress enough to get any significant playing time. And you might get one every 5 years or so that turns into a franchise QB (1 out of 60). I don't care what the game is. If I have a choice between playing it in a way where I have a 50% of winning vs. playing it with a 2% chance, I'll take the 50% chance every time.

It is no coincidence that the later rd guys who succeed land on teams with well sorted out offenses at the start of their career.

One can speak of "50% chance of" the bottom line is, no matter how talented the Qb is, if they have no talent around them, they will not do well, the ideal of a young Qb lifting everyone's play is simply not so, they merely take advantage of the talent around them.

For example Shaun Hill on the Lions, surround him with talent and the illusion of playing well happens.
