Thanks Tony for giving us the most exciting year in a while in 2008 and thanks for doing your best with these guys this year and giving us fans some good moments this season. You certainly are a great motivator and we were all hoping for a better outcome. Good luck and thanks again..
You never really want to see a guy sacked from his job no matter what you think of him, but for the sake of The Dolphins this had to be done. I'll get me CV printed up.
Is anyone else aroused by the thought of this fistpumping tool packing his **** from his office and leaving?
Shocked? No ! Necessary? Yes! A little saddened at the fact Tony seemed like a good guy who gave it his all but was simply not good enough ? Well, yeah.
Well, we can't at all be surprised by this. I'm glad they did it today after the Chiefs let Haley go today. It had to happen today so they didn't get too big of a head start in the search for a new HC on us. I feel bad for Tony though, he seemed to be a bit in over his head, but at the same time, you can tell the players, especially this year were really on his side. I think he had some really good qualities, but game management unfortunately wasn't one of them. He's been handcuffed as well by poor QB in his time here except for Pennington. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a shot somewhere down the line again, it'll probably be a while. He seems like a smart guy too, so I wouldnt be surprised if he figures it out.
Per Laconfora: We are looking at Brian Schottenhiemer. DOOMSDAY just happened. I'll mail dog**** to Ross every day for a year if he hires that *******.
Got the most out of the talent he had. Worst move was having Henning as OC. Because of the lockout changing the OC and having 5 new starters at different positions on offense this was somewhat predictable. What wasn't predictable was the how poorly the defense came in ready to play this year. Sparano was almost set up to fail as well do to going 11-5...it was a mirage the team turned the corner as that record was more a matter of schedule, having a veteran QB who knew how to manage a game and was accurate as hell, and surprised a couple of teams with the wildcat. Game management skills weren't up there with the best of them, but not experiencing mutiny from players during 0-7 start says a lot. Going 29-32 following the roster he inherited from Cam is respectable. Deserves another chance down the line with another team. There are worse coaches holding down HC jobs right now.
Why people have such a big disdain for the guy is beyond me. He went 29-32 in 3.5 years and won a division title. Throw that towards guys like Saban, throw it towards a coward like Petrino, but for a guy as good and hard working for the franchise as Sparano, why? Did he need to be fired? Yes. Did he have shortcomings as a head coach? Absolutely. However, we haven't had a coach work as hard and as tirelessly in a very long time. And that is commendable. And this idea that he should be treated this way because he didn't earn his pay...let me ask you all, you go to work and bust your *** every day? You work hard for 12 months a year? Do you hit every quota? Follow through on every thing? Didn't think so. No wonder we suck as fans, we are a bunch of pompous, arrogant, pricks. I just don't get why you kick the guy after he's out the door...because he wasn't a good head coach for your favorite football team? I applaud Tony's efforts. He didn't work out. He brought me one of the most memorable seasons as a fan. But, flatly, he wasn't a great coach and wasn't getting it done.
This fanbase is one of the most toxic in all of sport. We compare every HC to Shula and every QB to Marino.
Time, is the most precious commodity ANY of us have. More valuable than Money. In many cases, it is actually worth money. You can take someones money, property, etc..all of that can be re-acquired. When somebody takes your TIME, it is lost forever. Tony Sparano was incompetent, and got paid a handsome sum to inflict his incompetency on us, and thus waste OUR TIME. For that, he should be resented. period. he didn't waste 3 years of our franchises' time for nothing, he got paid for it. Think about that. That doesn't make you angry? It should.
By that token, you must hate Dan Marino... After all, he was just a massive cocktease for 20 years who never won a ring, thus, stole your time and the time from all Dolphins fans...
There is not a comparison in anyway to make between a hall of fame Quarterback and a discarded by the wayside head coach. But You get credit for trying to make it. congratulations.
He should have never been hired in the first place, as its now clear he was ill-qualified for the job. This was nothing but a Parcells pet project! Three years of Dolphin football have been wasted! As section 126 said, these guys got paid great salaries to get us to a sub-.500 team. Parcells was the worst hire in Dolphin history, Sparano was the worst HC in Dolphin history, and Ireland is the worst GM in Dolphin history. Two Parts of the tri-fecta are gone.......we just have one more to go(Ireland) Come on Ross...pull the trigger on Ireland!!
Ridiculous. If this is how you feel then it should be pointed to the owners who kept him. No coach, unless they have another job that they want or is Wannstadt, is walking out. Ownership has the ultimate responsibilty of who the coach is and wasted our time.
Good luck tony. Its a shame but I think he figured out a way to light a fire under our guys a bit too late. This is a rough business. You get almost no time to learn on the job
You just stated that the reason you hate Sparano so much is because he wasted your time. Are you saying that Marino didn't waste your time? Because, it would appear that the only way not to waste our time is to win a championship. If so, Marino is actually worse than Sparano since he wasted our time for 2 decades, and not just 3.5 years...
Agreed. Its an instant gratifaction fanbase with no patience. The next coach will step into a much better situation than cameron or sparano so they will have a decent chance to catch lightning in a bottle
Making Todd Bowles the interim HC makes perfect sense. Because of the Rooney Rule, every team hiring a new HC is required to interview at least one minority candidate for the position. By making Bowles the interim HC, Ross is basically paying lip service to the Rooney Rule because he stated that Bowles would also be interviewed for the position, along with other candidates. The chance of Bowles actually getting the job on a permanent basic is about zero percent. But at least the Dolphins will have met the guidelines of the Rooney Rule by interviewing him for the job. I have nothing against Bowles, but Ross has made it clear all year that he wants to go out and hire a difference maker as the next new coach. I just don't see Bowles fitting this criteria as a future HC in the NFL.
A waste of time is going out to a meeting with a respective client and them not showing up. That's a waste of time. Whether it's win or loss, I watch the Miami Dolphins because it's my choice and I enjoy it. So, no, he bever wasted my time. If I had felt that way, I would have stopped watching. I think well on my own. I don't need you to tell me to do so. You're a mad fan. I get it. Just calm the heck down and put some perspective on it. You, among others, are the first to fly off their seats and over sensationalize everything around here.
Outside of Cubs fans, most fans of all sports teams want and expect wins. People always temper expectations, but they don't expect someone to infinitely go sub-.500 and keep their job. There weren't any signs of improvement and our four wins were against teams absolutely destroyed by injuries.
Nah, this is beyond celebration and lamentation That's just pure trash. I'm happy he was let go too. He wasn't getting the job done. If anyone of us fail year after year, we would be let go also. However, you're gonna tell me you'd be OK with people sh****** on you when you've pumped your life intonthat job? When you've put your family on hold? When you've strained every other relationship, eat, sleep, and drink the job? That's crap. He wasn't good. He received the consequence. To kick the guy when he's down is crap. His effort and hard work should be acknowledged, because it was unprecedented for this franchise in quite some time. Not anything to keep the guy over, but sure as hell enough to give him a respectful departure.
Sparano was a good guy and definitely gave it all. Too bad he was an awful head coach... really, just absolutely miserable. I wish him the best but glad his days in Miami are over. Hopefully the next guy knows what he's doing.
