I always get like this when its a given that the teams front office and coach will be new going into the offseason, Cameron sucked, Parcells, was a quitter, so was Saban, so we need to get this one right, one that wants to be here, I think you have to start at the top with Cowher, Grudes and Fisher..Any of the three I would be happy with because I know we would be good from a coaching perspective, putting all the pressure on the next evaluator of talent for our team, which is right where its supposed to be in this league..

Upgrades on the team are bountiful, Lets try to figure out which 4 positions are the most important on the team to upgrade..

I always go into the offseason with a 2 and 2 approach, I need to upgrade two positions with 2 rookies from the first and 2nd round, and then upgrade another two positions with free agents..

1}..QB...PERIOD...We should be in the top 10 with our loss today, which sucks because we lost, but its time for our future, and picking higher reflects how that future becomes successful..With that top 10 pick or higher, it looks like we will have 3 legit QB's to choose from, Luck {still should try}, RG3 and Barkley, we must at all costs, aquire 1 of these young men..Thats exciting because the odds are in our favor because of the other teams that will be in the top 10 that don't need to address the position.

2} Dynamic 2nd receiver..He must be explosive, he must be fast..could be a free agent aquisition or could be a receiver in the draft..If we can land our QB without moving up, I would be willing to trade back up into the first round to aquire a player like Kendall wright, I don't think you can wait til the 2nd to aquire such a player..be aggressive if you have to, come away from this draft with your new QB and his new weapon, that will get the fanbase excited..

3} Right tackle..I think you have to go Vet here, making sure there is an upgrade..

4} This is tough.... You could go linebacker with speed, or saftey with range and speed..

we obviously have other holes as well, but that's a start..Where would your 4 upgrades come from.?, and who do you want to target as our next coach..??

Oh, and PS..can we all do a group hug together for making it thru another regime..awwww, isn't that special...lol..this will be a fun offseason..

Wow, imagine what it would be like to have RG3 AND Kendall Wright!
Together with Bush, Marshall, Bess and a new TE, we'd have a very explosive offense. Would be awesome!

Does Sparano get fired this week? Or do we need to lose up in Buffalo to see that happen?

I said before that if we lost to Oakland then Sparano should get fired immediately after. So I'm saying it again, a second loss in a row to go 4-10 should see Tony fired before the season ends so that the team is in no way handcuffed in its search for a new Head Coach.

Cris I wanted Tony gone after the loss to Denver...

    and the agony goes on....

the funny thing is the team would have probably had the same 4 wins even if Tony was let go earlier...

all week D, Ive been prefacing every damn post that I make about the Sparano situation, was under the caveat that the team would win out..Thats why I started the thread..''must win''...It was just a fun debate to talk about what if, but by no means was I lobbying for him to stay UNLESS they won out....Plain and simple...

One thing that gets me excited D, and that is, because we are finally in a position to select a QB high when there are prospects to be excited about..

I think you have to have the combination of former good head coach with a track record and a franchise QB...Imagine Gruden and RG3 together..hehheheheehe..

do you think, if Ross was to fire now, that it would make the big three {Cowher, Gruden, Fisher} view that as not fair?...cause if there is that chance, then just wait it out.

We already know the stories from last year, and the comments about those transpirings from Cowher..Has Ross repaired his image enough, to do this where it is view'd in a respectful way?

I believe our needs from a needs standpoint are:

Quarterback - if we don't take a quarterback with our first round pick, the fanbase WILL be in panic mode. Pretty sure fans will riot and things will not look good here. There should be plenty of options for us to take a quarterback in the first round from Matt Barkley, Robert Griffin III, Landry Jones, Brandon Weeden, etc. (Assuming that these guys declare at least). We should be able to land one of them; I'd love either Barkley or RG3 personally.

Right tackle - Marc Colombo is awful. We could use an upgrade over Vernon Carey too but I think we can fill that need via free agency. We seen what this line looks like without Jake Long and it's not pretty.

Free safety - I don't believe Reshad Jones is the man for the job and I don't know if Chris Clemons will get another chance (I thought he played well in 2010). I think we need to take a free safety in the 2nd/3rd round or spend some money in free agency for one. Michael Griffin perhaps?

Pass Rusher - We need a pass rusher opposite of Wake. I don't know if Misi is that guy, but that doesn't mean we should get rid of him.

Wide receiver - We could use a more dynamic #2 receiver. I would like to see us make a run at DeSean Jackson, I don't think he'll come cheap but with his attitude he will surely be a discount. A guy I like in the draft that will probably be a 2nd-3rd round pick would be Marvin McNutt out of Iowa.

I agree with your comments but I am not so sure about the Dolphins getting one of the top three QB's. If the Dolphins end up picking sixth, it is likely they will be drafting behind the Colts, Vikings, and the Redskins.
The Colts have already made it known that they will take Luck with the first pick. Even if they don't and decide to trade the pick, the team they trade with will be trading up for Luck. The Redskins will also be using their pick to take either Barkley or Griffin.

Until today I figured that we didn't have to worry about the Vikings selecting a QB with their first round selection because they took Christian Ponder in the first round last year. Today though, the HC of the Vikings pulled Ponder from the game because of his poor play. If Ponder continues to perform poorly over the next three games, it would not surprise me in the least if the Vikings decide to take Griffin or Barkley with their pick, depending on which of these QB's are still on the board.

I don't think Ponder has the tools to be a franchise QB and I think the Vikings may be coming to that same conclusion. I know I would much rather see Barkley or Griffin as the QB of the Dolphins, rather than Ponder. There is also a strong possibility that the Vikings may fire their head coach when the season is over. If this happens, a new regime in Minnesota may not feel obligated to stick with Ponder either. Right now I think there is a very good chance the Vikings would attempt to trade Ponder for a second or third round pick and they will go after one of the top three QB's in next years draft. I hope I am wrong, but the benching of Ponder today was not a good omen for the Dolphins, in regards to getting Barkley or Griffin.

If Ross didn't fire Sparano after the team started out 0-7, I don't see him firing Sparano with just three games left this season. Ross will just stick with the status quo for the remainder of the season and hopefully he is spending his time right now trying to determine the right people to turn this franchise around.

Ponder's a rookie QB. Very few of them wind up not sucking for periods at a time. They're not going to abandon ship on Ponder that early.

Still don't think he gets fired yet, although I did say they had to at least play well. Today they didn't, but if they lay another egg in Buffalo he might be gone.

I hope your right, but who would you rather have as your QB, Ponder or possibly Griffin? As a Dolphin fan I certainly don't want the Vikings to take a QB in the first round, but I just wouldn't be that surprised if they did.

I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Vikings take Jonathan Martin or Morris Claiborne. We just better hope that the Matt Kalil returning to USC story was simply a rumor.

Personally I think Miami is going to have to trade up to get one of the top three QB's, because if we don't trade up, someone picking behind the Dolphins in the draft will probably make a trade to jump over the Dolphins and select one of the big three. I could easily see the Browns, Chiefs, and Seahawks, attempting to trade up in the draft in an effort to select one of the top three QB's before Miami is on the clock.

Kalil stated that if Barkley stayed in school, he was also going to remain at USC. He also stated that if Barkley decides to enter the NFL draft, he was leaving too. So not only is it a bad sign if Kalil is leaning on staying at USC ,because that might mean that Barkley is also leaning in that direction. If Barley decides to stay at USC, the Dolphins chances of getting Luck or Griffin appear very slim, unless they make a major trade of draft picks to move up and get a pick ahead of the Redskins and possibly the Vikings in the draft.

Jackson has averaged 3-4 catches per game during his career. He's a big play guy, not a possession guy... I don't see why people don't think these two can co-exist.

I think the positions Miami has to upgrade are pretty obvious: QB, OL, pass-rusher, FS.

My dream scenario at this point would be getting a high enough pick to get Matt Barkley without trading up, etc. If you can get him, I'd be very tempted to deal back into round 1 for Courtney Upshaw. Those two would go a long way into improving the Miami Dolphins.

As far as the OL, I'd really like to see them target Ben Grubbs, the LG from the Ravens, in free agency. Obviously, I think a draft pick or two will be spent there as well.

FS is the mystery to me. Dashon Goldson maybe?

in terms of how i view the things we need to fix, they go in this order

    MUST BE ADDRESSED

    1) Jeff Ireland - He simply needs to go. He finds solid guys like Hartline or Clay but he really has a hard time getting pro bowlers in the draft. Outside of the first round (VD, Long, Pouncey...maybe) he completely misses on impact players. He has to go to FA or trade to bring in additional impact players (Wake, Dansby). He does find some nice role players and some solid if unspectacular players but thats not enough and his record with the offensive line is horrendous. No offense can function with the offensive lines we've had to endure the last three years.

    2) Right Tackle - I agree with you DJ that we should probably address this through FA. If we fail to do that we really need to consider Kalil, Reiff, Martin. Not saying they should be the pick but we better consider it. If we did pick that way, it can be argued that we wouldnt have to worry about that position for the next five years with Long, Pouncey and Incognito making the line go from one of the worst to one of the best in one year. And remember football starts in the trenches

    3) Free Safety- Sadly, there is no superstar FS available this year so if we draft one we need to look outside the first for one or FA. We may have to go another year without one

    NEED UPGRADES

    4) Impact receiver - Quite frankly its time we add someone, anyone, who can threaten the defense. One receiver is not enough and though Bess and Hartline are nice solid receivers, neither is a #2 receiver. If one is available in FA we can certainly make a run at him but if not Justin Blackmon and Alshon Jeffrey have to seriously be considered. These are sure fire pro bowlers who can come in and help us in 2012 instead of developmental players that will take 3 or 4 years before they have a positive impact

    5) Pass rushing OLB - Our defense would go from good to great if we could get the next Von Miller opposite Wake. Not sure I see that sure fire prospect this year but if Courtney Upshaw, Melvin Ingram, Ronnell Lewis or Brandon Jenkins are available in the 2nd we should grab one

    6) TE -If we pass on WR we need a TE who can stretch the field like Jimmy Graham. 2nd round or 3rd. Dwayne Allen is very intriguing

Could Improve But at What Cost

    7) QB - Moore and Henne are serviceable but they need an offensive line in front of them to function effectively. Could we gamble on greatness with RG3 or Barkley? Sure but Barkley will probably stay another year and RG3 will be gone by the time we pick so we would have to trade up. Its simply not worth it considering the time it would take to develop RG3. We can win now if we add the above pieces. I say forego the QB and add the ROT we need and get an impact WR or TE and a pass rushing terror OLB. Getting those three pieces is actually easier then getting one franchise QB.

    8) RB - Trent Richardson looks so tempting but Reggie Bush has flashed nice ability and the jury is still out on Thomas. Go another year with what we got though maybe we take a flier later in the draft

The way I see our draft right now its Justin Blackmon or Alshon Jeffrey in the first with the OTs and RG3 as outside possibilities

Prez, you like the offseason of change don't ya?..lol

1} Irish..I think his fate is sealed by the new head coach Ross hires..If your boy, or Cowher, or Grudes wants their own guy, then clean out your bag pipes buddy, if those three don't have 100 percent passion to be our coach, then maybe he stays..

2} The right tackle..We just don't need another rook along the front..I think were gonna need to replace 3 starters, but right tackle is the most important..So I see one of our big free agents to be this player.

3} Saftey..listen man, I don't know what Chris Clemons did, but I believe in that kids talent, so I'am thinking he will impress a new coach, as far as the other side, Jimmy wilson I would like to see get a shot..Just don't know if the impact player that most want is going to be available thru either vehicle, draft or free agency..Good thing Ybell keeps in good shape..Rjones is a quality special teamer..

4} Impact receiver...Bingo..There is not enough dynamic fast twitch playmaking ability in our group, This is a must needed upgrade, and next in line after selecting the QB, Iwould move up from the 2nd to get the player I wanted, or I would sign someone good in free agency {there are some good ones}..If we don't go free agency with this aquisition, then I do think it has to be with our 2nd high draft pick..Free agency comes first this year so we should know what we can eliminate from our draft needs.

5} Passrusher...Hmmm, Idk, I'am just looking for a fast, instinctive linebacker, Misi isn't impressin me all that much, and hes not developing his body like I would want, so if Tank Carder or Luke Kuechly is staring at us at #2, I'am gonna Tank that Kooch know what I'am sayin?

6} Tight end..Its dwayne allen or bust..I believe he will be a first rounder, so you might have to move up a bit, but if it's close, he's worth it, and perfect for a developing young QB...I mean perfect..

7} QB...you crazy son, its time to make the move, and take the hit if we fail...1st round draft pick, Barkleys *** better come out, and I'am gonna exhaust every possible way to Luck, and RG3 is sick talent, we have the position because of our futility, so one of those boys being in aqua is my #1 priority.

8} Running back..we need a speed back who can catch and return punts..but with our holes, I don't see it this year..
