So by your logic, the Arizona Cardinals should not have drafted both Fitzgerald and Boldin.

I think where Ozzy is coming from is that there is a difference between drafting them and signing to big deals as FAs/trades...

I would argue though that you would get a much quicker return on your investment vs. waiting for a rookie WR to develop. And of all positions, WR is usually one of the longer developmental processes...

There could be a lot available on the WR FA market. Depending on tags, restricted designations, etc. you could see DeSean, Vincent Jackson, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garçon, Dwayne Bowe, Laurent Robinson, Marques Colston, Robert Meachem, Brandon Lloyd to name a few.

Too expensive IMO if you're still paying Brandon Marshall.

Jackson would be a nice toy to have, but we can probably not afford him and fix the rest of the team

Well this is also the other aspect I wanted to discuss. How much do you guys think he could command? Considering the concussion/maturity issues hes had?

He isnt a dominant do-it-all type of WR... so I question the ceiling he could reach $$$ wise. But he is a hell of a flanker...

Love what he brings as a football player MOST times , really dislike his attitude , and have concerns over his longer term health. You weigh the value of the dollars spent and see where it makes most sense and will get the most results imo. Ideally you want that at the position of greatest need/greatest impact , it doesn't always flow that smoothly of course.

It will be where the best cost/value is and risk /reward . I would rather get a dominant player at a position that may not be the ideal one than a slightly above average one at more of a need position.

I've got pretty mixed feelings. I expected Hartline or Bess to take a step forward this year, and they both took a step back. There are some mitigating circumstances... Basically everyone started the season off poorly, and they've had a quarterback change to a guy who doesn't see the field all that well and seems to have an emphasis on different players.

The game is all about using your resources properly, and I'm not sure that big money on a #2 wide receiver at this point is.

Well, if we do draft a QB high, at least the rookie cap limits him.

He is a playmaker and would really help us to stretch the field but his asking price and on/off the field issues is too much, imo!

We have that guy on our team already, he is just not being used at all for some reason! If we use Gates in the right way he would draw some double team and all that, he runs a 4.30 and that's why we drafted him, to get speed and a deep thread to our WR group!

Sure Jackson is a better player, playmaker and all that but he can also turn quickly into a headache (just like he did in Philly now) and his asking price will be way too much to pay for a player with those issues! We already pay the big bucks to a similar guy, which doesn't stop him to drop lots of easy balls, especially in the endzone, just saying!

Not a chance. DeSean will be looking for top money, and whomever pays him is not gonna hand him checks to play special teams and "work in" to the offense. They are gonna line him up from the start.

If we need a speedy receiver and feel Gates won't be stepping up soon, Pierre Garcon would be an interesting option for me. Should come cheaper and fulfill pretty much the same role.

If they finally stop ignoring Bess in their passing game, Marshall stop dropping balls like crazy and Jackson wouldn't ask for the money he thinks he's worth then yes it would be a nice Triple Threat!

No, my logic is not to tie up a TON of money on two Wr's. Drafting has nothing to do with it. Jackson is going to want a lot of money.

I said pay two Wr's big money! Now if Jackson can be had with a reasonable salary, I'd be right with it but do you think that will happen?

  19. Ozzy

You're most likely correct but that would depend on the drafted player. I just dont see paying both your number one, and number two Wr's number one money and imo thats what Desean Jackson will want.

I don't know if the word 'Diva' and 'Dumbass' have the same definition, but they do start with the same letter so it works because they both define Jackson. He's a free agent, but there's not a chance in hell, IMO, that they let him walk for free.

Whats funny is that he's going to go to a new team and play very well. He's been in a bad situation all year, granted he put himself there but when he gets to a new team he's going to blow up. The guy is one of the most talented WRs in the NFL, and a great return guy. Someone like St.Louis will sign him and he'll be good again. People forget how many big plays this guy makes. He's playing to not get injured, thats a knock on him for sure but he'll be fine when he gets out of Philly.

Probably for awhile, then he'll be a problem again. This guy was not a first round pick despite great talent b/c he was a problem child on his college team. So I don't see this as a Philly thing. This is a Jackson thing.

I don't know its not uncommon for a player to find himself in a fight with management over money and have it affect his play on the field. Particularly when Philly spent 10s of millions signing a bunch of guys who haven't done anything while he clearly outplayed his rookie deal. He's played poorly at times this year and honestly he's been mailing it in the last few games for certain, I think he gave up and starting looking out for himself and playing not to get hurt after Philly's season fell apart, it is a negative on him for sure but honestly I think he'll be fine somewhere else.

He's been a huge play maker for Philly, this is the first year where I've heard anything real negative about him (with the exception of those dumb celebrations before he scored). I don't think he's gotten in any trouble off the field and really the only bad thing we've heard has been him being late to a meeting once so I don't think he's a bad locker room guy or bad for the community either. I still think he'll be a big player for someone, he seems like the kind of guy that will play very well with a chip on his shoulder.

There is something wrong in Philly this year, I've always liked Andy Reid but this team has packed it in, its not just Jackson.

He could very well end up going down that road but he hasn't been a cancer in the locker room so I'm not sure about him being the next T.O. I think he's worth a shot if the guaranteed money doesn't get crazy. He's kind of lowered his value a bit which might make him cheaper to sign this offseason IMO.

I don't know about that. Everything I've read says that Jackson has ripped that locker room in Philly apart, and Andy Reid has done nothing to reign him in and get everyone back on the same page. His handling of Jackson makes me not want Reid in Miami.

Well, Vincent Jackson had a huge right with SD's management, but wound up playing, Desean is letting this stuff effect his play on the field, which should tell everyone that if it is problem now, if you pay him, there will still be problems.

Even Marshall kept his problems off the actual field during games that matter.

Did you even watch the game thursday night.Vince young scrambling desean jackson goes deep and he doesn't even turn around to help his qb.Then they show young trying to talk to him on the bench and desean does not even acknowledge he is even there. The whole game he sat by himself without a care in the world. After the game the reporters were asking him if his head was in the game he stormed off.
Yea i want this guy on my team.No thanks.

    IMO, its a maturity thing...

Hes currently 25. I dont think hes going to act the same exact way 5 yeas from now when hes 30. Plus, this is about way more than just money IMO. A huge part of it, if not the majority, is about respect. Philly was throwing around money all over the place to people that havent done anything for them... and hes sitting there, gone to 2 Pro Bowls, and has single-handedly won games for them... and hes still playing on a rookie 2nd round contract in its 4th year? Thats bull**** man. I dont condone his actions, but I absolutely understand and agree with him feeling really slighted and unappreciated...

Hes no doubt handling it the wrong way... but the actions are also being provoked. A sign of respect by a new team would heal that. And if the same situation at the end of his contract somehow ended up playing out the same way down here... would he act the same way when 30 years old as he is currently at 25?

The reporters kept trying to bait him and he eventually got fed up with it. He continually was trying to say the right things, and then they'd ask him almost the exact same question again, or some other thing. Eventually, after getting asked the same question multiple times after answering it the right way, and basically being badgered... he ended it.

It's about more than money since it happened in college as well. I do agree that it's immature and when that's the basis a sign of respect wouldn't heal it. It would be a band-aid until the next thing he perceived as a slight. As for how he would act at 30, in my experience there are many immature 30 year olds. I would say it is at least as likely that he would act the same way at 30. In fact, I think that his acting the same way would be the most likely thing. But I also think that his play making prowess is also likely to be diminishing by that point so nobody will care.
