don't place much stock in this article, but as some have intimated .... you don't get rid of players that have at least some value, until you can replace them on the roster.

Misi: most have read my comments on Koa - nice, but not special or even above average in any capacity. Still would like to see him move inside ....
Jones: can play STs ... and still may be a back-up at S ... no need to get rid of him -- we knew he was a SS at best when we drafted (or at least i hope so)
Henne: the dude was ruined by this staff ... he will move on and show us that he was 'good enough' somewhere else -- but still on record in bringing him back along with Moore and drafting a QB in RD1.
Smith: another vastly over-rated player ... both himself and many on this site ... just not a very good cover corner, but also one you just don't throw away until he asks for $$$$$
Fasano: is better than he is given credit for ... solid player, but not spectacular ... never give away a dude like this -- why would you
Merling: meh, if he is cheap then you keep him - as you always need depth
Bell: has his limitations, and is aging - but we don't have anyone fully ready to step in ... unless you go with the aforementioned Jones. we continuously mention Bell as a likely dude to go .... but can't let him go until we have someone who can take over.
Hartline: is a tough one ... plays STs well, but if Gates gets reps and improves - Brian's plays will decrease ... i still would like to see him in a 'Welker-type' role to see what he could do -- this 'could' be his last season, but i would guess he has 1 more in the cards with us. A lot will be decided by the development and health of Moore and Gates.

***Carey: Just needs to go ... have been saying this for 2 years -- now we can't get anything for him
***Columbo: Same as above ... when we signed him, i thought it would have been to play G ... never as a T

the 3 things the PHINS FO MUST accomplish this offseason -

    1. New HC
    2. Decide on the direction on QB
    3. Fix the R side of the OL

Just these 3 things alone will make us a better than .500 team immediately ....

I would have no problem with any of the players in the list being cut or traded. I don't see any of them being play makers on this team and while they are starting on a bad Dolphin team. I don't think most of these players would be able to make the roster on the better teams in the NFL. For those who might make the roster on these better teams, I am sure none of them would be starters on these teams.

Right now these ten players are all starters on the 3-8 Dolphins. Perhaps Mr. Ross will take a close look at this lack of talent assembled by Ireland and finally realize that it is time to send Ireland on his way. We can only hope.

I don't have answers for additions right now because it still is in the middle of the season. Come draft time and free agency, ask me again and I'll tell you. The fact is, these players are either starters that should be back ups, underachievers or just complete garbage.

I've heard so many negative things about Hartline and Fasano completely disappearing in games. Both are adequate as BACKUPS. I'm fine with keeping them as backups, but most players that are starters won't come back as a backup.

Misi is a terrible pass rusher. He has ONE sack this season. The reason Wake is being neutralized is because of the inability of our other outside linebackers to apply pressure. Again, Misi would be a decent backup, but he DOES NOT cut it as a starter. At all.

Yeremiah Bell is a beast of a tackler, which would be good if he was a linebacker. However, Bell is a safety and he is a complete liability in coverage, which is something a solid defense can't have because of the changing style of the NFL.

Merling is the odd man out in a defensive line rotation that has great depth. Merling has barely seen the field, and has no value to us whatsoever.

Reshad Jones is questionable at best. People were calling for his head earlier in the season because of his inability to read the offense fast enough to make plays.

Colombo and Carey shouldn't even be a question. They are both inadequate at best as starting lineman. Carey hasn't been healthy since the 2009 season, and since getting injured as a Cowboy, Colombo has not been the same.

As for Smith, I'm tired of players with big mouths and little bite. We all are tired of having a mediocre staff, well I'm tired of having mediocre players. He is inconsistent, which is a nightmare when you have a starting free safety that is always a step behind and a strong safety that struggles in coverage.

No offense 854...sounds like writing an article to get hits rather than making a lot of sense. Several of your choices are no brainers....guys like Carey, Colombo, Henne, (only because he'll never get another shot here), Jones since he has become a sieve back there when he plays, maybe even Bell since age has caught up with him. The rest really depend on who the new regime is. If, for example, Fisher is here, Misi and Merling might fit in really well. Smith is doing ok...still developing, as opposed to Davis who seems to have arrived. Fasano, for his inability to be Anthony Gonzalez, is a decent all-around TE...what is needed is for Clay or someone in that spot (#2 TE) to arrive or develop. Hartline is solid part of the WR corps. The reason he gets bashed here is that he's asked to be someone he's not...he is the fastest WR we have and he's not very fast. He's asked to take the pressure off of Marshall and Bess's side of the field and can't do it. He's a good #2 WR, just not a speed guy.

The real question that needs to be answered before we talk about who will/should be here next year versus who we have will be based on who the GM and coaching staff. You can't answer those questions without know who the staff will be first....

Your omission of Columbo caused me to disregard this article. Sorry. I tried.

I'd have listed Colombo's name 5 times, Carey's name 3 times, and Reshad Jones' name 2 times. :D

From 2008 through 2010 combined, Fasano was also the best run blocking TE in the league. You don't cut that.

We'll see how it shakes out when this season is over as for where he ranks. Regardless, when it comes to looking at team weaknesses, Fasano is far down the list.

In 2010, PFF ranked Misi as the 7th best overall 3-4 OLB in the league, and the 3rd best as a run defender. He was playing a higher pct of snaps though as a rookie and this year he and Taylor are dividing snaps almost equally. The 3rd OLB in 2010 was Moses and he only played 186 snaps all season. This year so far, Taylor has 332 and Misi has 350. It's kind of difficult for Misi to make much impact when he isn't on the field as often. Maybe it's partly a sophomore slump and/or maybe the coaches feel Taylor deserves a higher pct of the snaps than the 3rd OLB did last season.

Talking of cutting him though is totally ludicrous. :pity:

At OLB, maybe you part with Trusnik, or maybe you part with Ike, but parting with Misi instead?

It's like the number dictates to the article instead of the article dicatating the number. I hardly read any "Top X" articles for that reason. More than likely the last couple are fluff to fill out the list.

This isn't meant as a direct bash on the OP. I haven't read the article, but I always support people trying to create content and doing what they enjoy. So stay at it :P

Cutting some of these guys is like saying they're not even good enough to be backups, which is just plain silly. All that accomplishes is hurts our depth, which in today's NFL would be a big mistake.

Most of these guys remain your starters until someone else unseats them, and if they are unseated, it means both our starters AND our depth are improved.

My question to you is why flat out CUT these guys... or even think you could find a decent trade for any of them.. If anything I'd like to keep all of them and use them as backups??? You said Jones sucks as starter but played well in a limited role? So backup? No need to lose them for nothing or basically nothing. If you brought up salary or something maybe I'd agree with a couple but there is no reason to lose most of these players.

Hartline no, Fasano no, Reshad Jones, no. Everyone else on that list I would dump tomorrow if I could.

Koa Misi - Need to upgrade, but I don't think we should cut him.
Columbo - Needs to be gone. When your name gets brought up 10+ times per game for missing or blocking horribly, you need to go.
Jones - The "experiment" failed. Need serious help in the secondary.
Henne - He's gonna be gone anyway.
Smith - Inconsistency kills this team, Upgrade? Possibly.
Fasano - lol no. Upgrade, yes. Cut, no.
Hartline - I really don't understand the hate for this guy. Should he be the No. 2 guy? No. But the No. 4/5 sure no problem. Gates, who some here thought would be Hartline's replacement, has not done very well at Wr.

    Just my opinions on some.

3 of the above guys have played less than 3 full seasons in the NFL.
2 of them declared for the NFL as Juniors.
The other one made a position change.
Combined, they make around $2 million/year.

There's a 3 year curve in the NFL for a reason.
You don't give up on young, talented players prior to that unless they absolutely never see the field.

I think the cutting of Colombo is a fore-done conclusion. No matter who is the GM or coach, Colombo is gone.

Carey still may eek it out. He's much better than he was in week 1. Personally, I still feel he should be RT, with Garner at LG, & Richie at RG. If he can still play that position, I think he can stay, especially at his decreased cap number.

Yeremiah Bell is interesting. Miami has failed to find his replacement for years. Now, we are at a point where his skills are diminishing and he's set to make plenty of money on a back-loaded deal. if Brian Dawkins has a place in the NFL, so does Yeremiah. I think Nolan utilizes him well. There have been few plays where Yeremiah has really been exposed.

Players I don't expect back: Chad Henne, Marc Colombo, Jason Taylor, Phil Merling, Will Allen to name a few. Most of the players on your list, I see no reason for letting loose.

Both safety spots are huge needs to be honest. Bell is one of my favorite players on the team, but those types of safeties are becoming obsolete in today's NFL. You need 2 guys who can cover back there these days.

If you cut Bell, you don't cut jones. If you cut Jones you can't cut bell yet. I really think that Jones was drafted to be Bell's replacement. So if anyone needs to go, its probably bell so that Reshad can take his place and we can draft a much better FS.

Yes we have to get rid of some players and need to upgrade some positions but first of all we have to get a real HC, a new GM and a franchise QB! They will fix the rest, imo!

All he wants is to get his beloved celebrities into the stadium and to co-own a part of the Dolphins, that's it! Too bad that they don't want to see or be part of a losing team every given sunday, that's why he wants us to win, he doesn't care about the fans, the franchise or anythong else, just his beloved celebrities is all he cares about! He needs to go as well, we deserve a owner who cares about us and this franchise!

No player should be replaced until 1 - you have a better player, or 2 - they are a cancer.
