Ok, so let me get this straight. Their in production for Rising, and their thinking about making another game, which is going to be Metal Gear Solid 5? I thought Rising was supposed to be MGS5.
Rising was never supposed to be MGS5. Kojima separated from the MGS team that’s now working on Rising. He began work on the Fox Engine and he has one or two games in development that probably aren’t Metal Gear. So Kojima can think about making MGS5 because he has little to do with Rising, though he’s probably still supervising.
Am I the only one that isn't happy about this? IMO MGS4 wrapped up the story of Big Boss and Solid Snake in the neatest bow I can imagine for a story of that scope. There were almost no questions left unanswered and any major character still alive at the end of it was left in a good place. I have no problem continuing the story of Raiden with new threats but leave Snake alone.
Rising happens both before and after MGS4, meaning that Raiden’s ending in MGS4 actually happens after Rising. So MGS4 ends Raiden’s story as well. Kojima actually talked in broad strokes after MGS4’s release about what an MGS5 would have to be like given MGS4’s ending, and he said something about a “new Solid Snake for a new age,” probably meaning a new character who would be what Solid Snake would be if he were designed today instead of in the ‘80s.
