The Defense has not given up a RUSHING TD to a running back since Week 4 against the Chargers. The last rushing TD the Dolphins have given up was against Mark Sanchez in Week 6. On the season, the Dolphins have allowed 3 rushing TD's total. One to Green-Ellis, one to Mike Tolbert and the QB draw to Sanchez. Now, obviously they've given up 14 TD's through the air, which isn't spectacular, though it's not horrible either. I was also surprised to learn that the Dolphins have scored more TD's than their opponents this season, 19-17. (I didn't count the Revis Pick-6 or the Lex Hilliard punt recovery, but they'd even out anyway) I know Aqua started a great thread on the defense, but I was a little more than shocked when I saw these numbers. If you take out the first game of the year against New England (I know, I know) the Dolphins have only allowed 2 Rushing TD's, only one to a running back, and have allowed opposing QB's to throw 10 TD passes in 9 games. That's only 1.3 TD's per game. Pretty impressive stuff. The Dolphins have also forced opponents to attempt 24 FG's, while they've made 19. Meanwhile, Dan Carpenter has attempted 22 FG's and made 18 of them. That's right, for all the FIST PUMPING EXCITEMENT our coach exudes, Dolphins OPPONENTS have actually done more pumping of fists. Hope you found these stats interesting. I love you all. (source: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/mia/2011.htm )
The gay ending to this post almost negates the awesomness of the statistics it beholds. But it doesnt. Just barely though.
The gay ending negates nothing. It makes me look forward to valentines day......... But yeah this is why I think we'll shut down dallas for the most part and put most it on romo. If we can hold witten to a couple of catches I think we win this game.
Awe.... come'on.... He's just being thankful on Thanksgiving for all of the stimulating conversation, camaradarie, and snappy repartee hereabouts... Aside from that, those are some very interesting numbers. The defense is once again a solid group (with a few glaring exceptions! - which is the case with most clubs!) upon which the foundation of a good team can be laid.
We get a good young qb and we win 8-10 games consistently. (with a cuple more pieces added) Also, Lucky and I were talking during the Monday night game.....we both really think Odrick or "OH"drick like the announcer was calling him Sunday....is coming into his own, and will be a dominating force both against the run and pass for years to come!
We're also +7 in points scored vs. the opposition this year (193-186)...The phins and eagles are the only sub .500 teams to have more points scored than allowed..
. Sometimes I like to let people know I mean business, in addition to being cool. I'm like the Women's pant suit in that way, I guess. One thing I forgot to mention: Maybe we don't miss Crowder as much as we thought?
Yeah, it was nothing "mind blowing" like some ****ty band getting an original member back........but not everyone can make such news-worthy posts such as yourself Trav. Kudos!
They need to cut this crap out.....playing good defense, blocking punts...wtf....lose some more games please....
I really believe a healthy Karlos Dansby and Vontae Davis has been huge for the defense. Earlier in the season, even when those guys were on the field you could tell they were playing hurt and not producing like they were capable of, and now they are both playing at a high level.
Has a team in the history of the Nfl not allowed a rushing td in a season as San Fran 49s seem to be on the way?
The crazy thing is, this team is -6 for the season on turnovers (14 TO's on the season). So, despite giving up 14 TO's, the defense has been able to hold the opposition to either a FG or no points at all. I tried to find out how many points have been scored/given up off turnovers this year, but couldn't find it. I'm willing to bet it's probably pretty close, or the Dolphins have scored more than they've allowed off TO's. The Bills and Redskins games alone I can remember the Dolphins scoring TD's after INT's.
I went to a seance with Boomer, CK and Con and some crazy **** happened. I won't go into details, but let's just say I've been speaking with an English accent and have grown a neckbeard.
ck has a beard now? Is that from when he went up on might sinai and God handed him the 10 football commandments?
1. Thou shall not cheap out on the QB position. 2. Thou shall not think they know everything about football because they do very well in Madden. 3. Thou shall not settle for field goals. 4. Thou shall not a keep a player benched *cough*ChrisClemons*cough* when the player on the field is not doing well *cough*NolanCarroll* 5. Thou shall not covet a player because he did well for a small amount of games, nor shall thou hate a player because he did horrible for a few games. 6. Thou shall take ESPN with a grain of salt 7. Thou shall take it like a man and not jump ship when their team is losing. 8. Thou shall not suggest that a player's position should be changed to a completely different one without warrant (ex. "Let's move Zach Thomas to SS!") 9. Thou shall not place too much hope in a Undrafted Free Agent becoming a superstar. 10. If thou shall forget any other commandment, then refer to commandment #1.
Understand this. If we beat Dallas in their house on Turkey Day before a national audience, the entire season is officially turned around. It is that significant. Pig out on artisan turkey, watch the game and scream. If we win I'll see you all back here and all the nay sayers will have to eat crow.
*BUMP* After 12 games, still only 1 rushing TD allowed to a RB all year and only two total on the season.
