hey everybody! What's ironic is my absence from The Phins has largely been due to soccer. New passion! I've been eating, breathing, sleeping footy this year. I've always been a fan of the beautiful game but my fandom has peaked this year I think. Also, since I never really became a fan of any particular PL side, I can watch all matches as a general footy fan. Still waiting for that PL team to "grab" me. As they say, you don't find a team - a team finds you! Are all the Arsenal fans back from the ledge again? Phew!
Andrew Luck, soccer fan? http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefoo...te-team-player-for-undefeated-Cardinal-110911 Those were the only soccer references, but still cool to see he appreciates soccer. You don't see that too often with NFL types (aside from Ocho).
I do. Are you speaking of nPower, Championship, Serie B, Ligue 2, MLS, 2.Bunde? Speaking of Ibra and Milan, did you guys see this recent Gazetta article? I don't know if it was known amongst the Milani cognescenti, but Onyewu broke his ribs back when he was out with that injury. I remember the club didn't say as much at the time. It puts the situation into better perspective though since Onyewu is a black belt! Ibra also confirmed what we already knew: that Ljungberg is a whiney prima donna link (Italian): http://t.co/CfTda9wO
Oh, and to spam this thread further: I'll be flying down to LA next week to see the MLS Cup Final. I'm super excited, will be my 2nd Cup Final in 3 years. My sister lives in LA and knows Omar Gonzalez's girlfriend, so I'm hoping for a chance to meet the 2011 MLS Defender of the year. ** Yo, Arsenal fans- Did you hear Brek Shea is going to Emirates later this month to train with Arsenal for a month or two. Arsene recently said the US & Asia are the two biggest untapped markets of talent, and he's giving young Americans a chance. Also in discussion: Tim Ream (CB), Bill Hamid (GK), Sean Johnson (GK). As an American MLS-fan who follows the PL, this is very exciting stuff for me.
Want to see a sublime goal? Check out Ozzie Alonso's Messi-like 3rd goal for the Sounders during the Open Cup Final: And the likely winner of MLS goal of the year, Eric Hassli's beautiful rainbow (called by the wonderful Arlo White): I was lucky enough to have been at both of these games. This thread needed more MLS content
It's cool Shea is training. I think he would do well at a midtable premier team. Sean Johnson went to UCF the same time as me so always stoked to see him doing well. However, I don't want to see Ream anywhere near their training ground. p.s. liverpool just signed the captain of the us U17 team.
Really? That's awesome! Who is the player? I think Ream is quality. You can't judge him by a poor sophomore campaign marred by the fact he had to play with that toolshed Marquez who threw him under the bus more times than you can count. He is in a very toxic situation there. Last year, pre-Marquez, Ream was one of the best in MLS - and he also shut down plenty of strikers at the international level in 2010. I guess it depends on what kind of ball your team plays. Ream excels at distribution out of the back. If your team play long-ball, Ream wouldn't be as attractive to you. If you engage in build-up play and are keen on accurate distribution, Ream is more your kind of guy. He's unpolished but the raw talent is there. I think, anyway. (but hey, i'm no scout! ) Sean Johnson is a stud. I love that guy. I hope to see him on the USMNT someday. (coincidentally that Alonso goal I posted above was against Johnson & the Fire).
Speaking of Brek Shea, here's a painting I commissioned him to make for me. I wanted it before he goes off to Arsenal and becomes world famous I love his style! If you're interested, he has some pieces up for sale and does do commissioned work. Highly recommend! site: http://www.leftfootstudio.com/
phew glad ibisevic had some awful finishing. helder postiga sucked too though. Never let miquel velosa take another corner again. Hopefully portugal will have a more fluid performance tuesday
my goodness... anyone see England's U21 vs Iceland in a Euro qualifier today? Future is looking great for England. Oxlade-Chamberlain is a very fun player to watch. And Gary Gardner solid off the bench, magnificent free kick goal.
More american youngsters training in england. I forget the name but the reigning 2 time U16 u.s. player of the year is training with city for 6 weeks
Interesting, and good for Onyewu. At least he's good at something. He couldn't crack Milan's then depleted back line and so we shipped him off.
Unbelievable decision in portugal bosnia game. Helder postiga gets not 1 both 2 feel wiped out for what should be a penalty and instead is given a yellow for diving. in know the portuguese go down pretty easily under contact but there cant be a more obvious foul not given edit : nevermind, it's a blowout doesnt matter
The Euro Pots are out: Pot 1: Spain, Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland So we could see a Spain/Holland, Germany/Italy/England, Portugal, France group of death...
Milan loses 2-3 to Barca. Good result. Good poise by Milan, and a TERRIBLE penalty given to Barca. This little Spaniards, and Barca for that matter, hit the ground on the slightest contact! F me. Oh well, Milan hanging with the best, tied the game twice, and will see Barca again in the final.
Milan 2 - Barza 3. Bad midfield (On both sides, defending & attacking) + the ref, cost us the game. That was not a penalty. Seedorf was very passive, Van Bommel You are a disgrace GTFO!, Aquilani inconsistent, Pato just came back from an injury couldn't get into the game because our poor midfield IMO. Ibra & Boateng, top class. FORZA MILAN!
