Hey guys, hoping I'm posting in the right section with this? I'm a Phins hailing from New Zealand. Heading over to Florida for Christmas/New Years and hoping to go watch the Dolphins crush the Jets to bring in the new year which will be the very first NFL game I've ever attended (have been to plenty of Rugby games :D ) just wondering how far in advance I'd need to be organizing tickets for the game to avoid missing out? is there any better or worse places to buy tickets from? should I upgrade my Ricky jersey to a Marshall one, and just any other sort of general advice people may have for a noobie attending a game.

Feel free to throw any advice you may have about going to Panthers games and just Miami in general while you're at it :)

    http://www.miamidolphins.com/tickets-and-stadium/index.html

This is the official Dolphin site. I would start there to see what seats are available, and the stadium lay out. If you don't find anything you like there, you can shop others. I'm pretty sure all the best seats are gone but are likely available through other sources. I would make arrangements sooner than later. IF the Jets need that game for the playoffs, good seats will be hard to come by.

If the Dolphins website don't have tickets you want, give a check on http://www.stubhub.com. Just search Miami Dolphins there, and you'll find the game you're looking to attend. You may be able to find some good deals there. It's a ticket re-selling website, very safe, very secure to buy from as well. Hope you enjoy the trip, and the game. As others have stated, I wouldn't wait much longer for tickets.

As for a first visit to South Florida, I would stay in Miami Beach. The 4000 and 5000 blocks of Collins Ave is filled with very nice hotels that are convenient to everywhere. If the beach isn't your thing the Intercontinental Miami sits right on the river in Downtown Miami. Hotwire.com seems to always have a deal on a room there and it's a 4 star complex. Bayside Marketplace is an open air mall within walking distance of the Intercontinental. I'd recommend a visit to Bayside even if you were not staying next door. They host live music in the afternoon and evening and there is a wonderful Cuban cafe on the second floor that I love for breakfast.

If you are staying in Fort Lauderdale jump onto the water taxi. It's a waterway like you've never seen as it was cut out by the US government. Google "New River" in Fort Lauderdale for a reference. I think you can bar hop via the water taxi. I tow my boat down there for my fun.

If you are up for a drive of about 65 miles from Miami - take a visit to Marathon, Florida down in the Keys. Rent a boat and snorkel the Sombrero Reef all day.

Otherwise you can drive about 25 miles into the everglades and take an airboat ride. All of the guides seem to know a little something about the glades to keep you interested in the tour.

Vizcaya - just go and see it. Breath taking views and simply elegant.

If you go to a night club tell them you are from out of town and you are not wasting your precious time (in a nice way) waiting in line.

Rent a car and drive around. For a major city, traffic really isn't bad in the tourist districts.

    Step 1:
    Go to your local grocery.

    Step 2:
Acquire a a large paper bag from said grocery.

    Step 3:
Cut two eye holes into aforementioned large paper bag.

    Step 4:
    Place bag on your head.

That's awesome man. I think it was last year (or maybe 2009, years blur together now) that Miami played Seatle in Miami. I actually flew from Seattle to Ft. Lauderdale to watch them play the Seahawks, haha (go figure).

    Thankfully, they won.

I will say the best part of my experience was catching the tailgate before the game in the parking lot. I didn't have a car or host station, but everyone was so nice. When people heard I flew in for the game, arms opened up, beers started coming my way, etc. I think if you share that you came from NZL you will make 60k new friends! :D

Just stay away from stadium concessions - gross. Also don't think a Ricky jersey is embarassing or anything; he was one of the best rushers this franchise ever had!

Great experience with fans - almost more fun than the game! Well, these days it probably IS more fun than the game, hehe

I agree with almost all ZOD. The 4000-5000 block of Collins is almost all over-aged condo commando's, and should be avoided. I would be looking to South Beach but, not the very pricey Ocean drive.

I suggest StubHub.com, some great prices on there

I'll be headed down for the Bills game, 2 front row seats in the endzone upperdeck for a total of $66

Oops...... It's been 10-12 years since I stayed in that stretch but I remember it being a nice area. To tell you the truth I usually just search 4 star on Hotwire or bid on the same at Priceline. It's been rare that I haven't been able to find a 4 star hotel for less than 90 dollars a night. That's actually how I have ended up in the Intercontinental three different times.

Warning: every hotel I have ever stayed at charges 20-25 per night for parking making an airport shuttle an extra value.
