I honestly don't know. I really can't see a big immediate turnover as a new coach will want to evaluate players himself to see if it was an overall talent issue or a coaching issue. I could see some players who's contracts run out not being resigned. I really don't see Columbo returning because everyone not named Sparano and Ireland can see the bad play there. I don't think Jason Taylor returns if he decides against retiring. Will Allen might be gone. Theres going to be a lot more coaches leaving than players IMO.
Pouncey Long Wilson Davis Smith Thomas Hartline Bess Fasano Gates Clay Bush Langford McDaniel Starks Dansby Wake Fields Misi Odrick I think these guys have the best chance at making this team next year and some of them are locks. Maybe: Incognito Marshall (possible trade scenarios) Olshansky (based on camp performance) Soliai (if his price is good) Burnett (camp performance) Dan Carpenter
I think it's pretty easy to see who we'd keep on offense. Other than Long and Pouncey, I'd expect to see a bunch of turnover on the OL. Marshall, Bess, and Hartline should stick around. Gates needs coaching, but he should have a chance. Bush and Thomas are pretty much locks, as is Clay (if he can ever get healthy). On defense, it really depends upon what system will be run next season. We actually have a lot of talent on D, but if we go to a 4-3 front, expect some trading/turnover. I think we need to add a thumper at MLB, another pass rusher, and a safety. I would really like to see how VD and Sean Smith would look in more aggressive man coverage. I think they both have a lot of untapped potential. It's a good question, but I think it's going to be a largely unanswered one until we know who the head coach and GM will be next season. I'd definitely wager Chad Henne and Matt Moore will be playing elsewhere, though. Too bad for Henne, really, but if the Phins have a top-3 pick... and don't draft a QB... I'd be utterly shocked (and disappointed). At least, as it looks right now.
Was thinking the same thing, new regime may keep the 3-4, maybe go to the 4-3, impossible to tell ATM. My list: Long Pouncey Incognito Garner Bubble guys: Carey Colombo Murtha Jerry (though he may start at RT this week) Keepers: DTRain Bush Would like to see play more: Lexxy Slaton (he could be one of those lowbuck guys you keep) Wr: Marshall Bess Gates Te: Fasano..maybe Qb: Moore has a 2 yr deal, is playing like a backup Qb, he may be worth keeping Goner Henne, especially if we take a young Qb with a #1 Defense Starks MCD Odie Langford Soliai Wake Dansby..only with a paycut, he is not a 10 millie per yr player Goners: Trusnik Taylor Burnett Spitler Cb's Wilson Smith Davis Safeties Clemons That is about it, aside from Fields and Carpenter.
Well, personally, I think you have to explore every option as far as trades (yes, this includes everyone, even Jake Long) go to make the team better. But if I had to group the players, I'd go like this, just in order of position: Keepers QB: Matt Moore RB: Daniel Thomas, Steve Slaton WR: Brandon Marshall, Davone Bess, Clyde Gates TE: Anthony Fasano, Charles Clay (I think this his where his future lies, not at FB) OT: Jake Long, Nate Garner OG: John Jerry, Ryan Cook (for depth purposes only - I wouldn't want either starting unless they vastly improve) OC: Mike Pouncey DE: Kendall Langford (needs re-signed), Randy Starks, Tony McDaniel NT: Paul Soliai (needs re-signed) OLB: Cameron Wake, Koa Misi ILB: Karlos Dansby, Marvin Mitchell CB: Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Jonathan Wade S: Chris Clemons, Reshad Jones ST: Dan Carpenter, Brandon Fields, John Denney Trade Bait candidates: Brian Hartline Jared Odrick Yeremiah Bell I also think you can throw names like Cameron Wake, Brandon Marshall, Vontae Davis, and Sean Smith into this mix if you have the right opportunity...say, to move up for Andrew Luck perhaps. In Wake's circumstance, it's a case of buy low-sell high. With Bell, if he's back, fine. But I think you try and move him for what you can; he's not getting any younger, and if we're going to rebuild the team, rebuild it all the way. He's been a liability in coverage over the past few years, and I think (hopefully) you can train Reshad Jones or Chris Clemons to replace him. Goners: These are guys I wouldn't like to see on the roster in 2012 QB: Chad Henne, Sage Rosenfels, J.P. Losman RB: Reggie Bush, Lex Hilliard WR: Marlon Moore, Roberto Wallace TE: Jeron Mastrud, Will Yeatman T: Marc Colombo, Lydon Murtha G: Richie Incognito, Vernon Carey DE: Igor Olshansky OLB: Jason Taylor, Jason Trusnik ILB: Kevin Burnett, Austin Spitler CB: Will Allen, Nolan Carroll, Jimmy Wilson S: Tyrone Culver Of the goners, I think you could keep Reggie Bush if you get the right coach, but he's been a waste here. Incognito might be serviceable as depth, but he shouldn't be starting at this stage (would love to seen Ben Grubbs brought in via free agency). I feel it's time to move on from Vernon, he's just not been the same since the start of 2010. The rest I think are pretty self-explanatory meaning they're just not good, or they haven't lived up to what they're being paid. That means you Kevin Burnett. Maybe you can keep guys like Carroll and Wilson if you get a better DB coach, but I think from when they've been pressed into action this year, they've both shown they're no more than bit players at the most. Overall, in my opinion, this roster is in need of a serious gutting and rebuild.
That ain't happening. Who exactly is going to trade for a guy whose production doesn't equal his contract, and has his own personal issues as well? I'm not 100% sold that they'll keep Marshall, but if they don't it'll most likely be as a cap casualty.
I'd really hate to see Marshall be viewed as part of the problem. I know he's not playing at an elite level right now, and part of that is his fault. That being said, I really want to see what he can do on a competently managed offense.
I would keep Murtha and see what he has. I was never a flag waiver for the kid but he appeared to be doing pretty good during pre season prior to his injury. Left side of this offensive line is fine. From Carey, question mark, to Columbo, horrid, will be replaced. Long, Incognito and Pouncey make a fine trio. Jerry, really not sure about the man. I do know, they cannot cut almost an entire Oline like some people dream they could. I do not care who the coach is in 2012, that would be disastrous. Not all rookie lineman are like Pouncey, who IMO, still needs to add some weight. Still amazes me they keep Columbo in and not even give Garner a chance at RT. Simply amazing. Jerry, if as someone says plays RT this week ? Is going to get eaten alive by Tamba Hali. Guess we will throw our big package of Garner and a TE over on the right and then attempt to run that way which is a joke. Their " Jumbo " package as they call it has failed everytime they attempted to use it this year, every time.
I would bow to Mr. Ross if after the last game of the season he threw a bag with the rest of Marshals guaranteed money at him and say " There is a plane ticket in there, enjoy. Good luck, your fired " Marshal and Dansby were among the two biggest mistakes this franchise has done, money wise, in the last two years.
Marshall has not done enough for what he was brought in for.Yes the QB was not great but he had way to many drops for the money that was shelled out.He is not consistant and lets his emotions get the better of him.Denver did Miami no favors on that deal.
Marc Colombo signed a one year, 2 million deal with 1 million guaranteed. The reason he's still on the squad has little to do with money and the odds that he'll be back are slimmer than my chances of sleeping with Scarlett Johansson tonight.
If someone would give us a 2nd round pick, he'd be gone!! Take his head and his hands somewhere else and let him drop TD passes for another team. The Dolphins need all they can get and the team doesn't need his unpredictable behavior and ego making demands about the number of targets he gets of a rookie QB, if the rook we all assume will be drafted starts.
Right now, the only two players guaranteed to return in 2012 barring (further) injuries are Jake Long and Mike Pouncey. We'll obviously keep more than two players from this squad but everyone else is totally subject to scheme, evaluation by the new staff and potential trade scenarios.
Yes, every team has turned over 51 new players in the NFL. GET REAL, name the last team that cut 51 of its 53players on the roster when a new coach came in. Wait, I will save you the time, ITS NEVER HAPPENED AND NEVER WILL. Once you are dealing with that many numbers you are only going to either get worse or get back the same thing you let go. Thank the Good Lord Fans do not run this football team.
Learn to read Thank the Good Lord people on this board actually bother to read a post before going off on a silly rant. Oh, wait.
First off, we have a number of FA in Soliai, Langford, Merling, Henne, Carey, Columbo, JT, W Allen, and Slaton, Then we have some money issues to decide on- Bell @ $4.3M, old, and a liability in coverage, Burnett @ 4years @ $20M, Marshall @ $9.3M, and Dansby @ $8.8M. That should keep the new guys busy this off season. QB- I would re-sign Henne to go with the top pick. He will be the best available QB for this team, and not expensive. RB- Thomas is an easy choice. My jury is still out on the res. WR- I replace Marshall IF we can get a #! like V Jackson or maybe D Bowe in FA. Otherwise I keep Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Gates, and Moore. TE- I'm fine with Fasano and Clay. OL- No problem with Long, Cog, and Pouncey. I keep Garner, Murtha, and wait and see on Jerry. DL- Keeping Starks, Odrick, and McD. The rest are up in the air depending on price, and 3-4 vs 4-3. LB- Keeping Wake, Dansby, Misi, and Mitchell. Up in the air again with 3-4 vs 4-3. CB- Keeping Davis and Smith, and Wilson, who could go to safety. S- Wide open here. I'm keeping Jones for a shot at SS, and Cemons for a shot at FS. Replacing them all would be tuff. K- No way I'm parting with our MVP in Fields, and Carp is back among the top kickers. KR- Can't yet say if we have an answer in Gates or Slaton. Wait and see mode.
Marshall has dropped more passes than he should have, but he's not playing poorly. He's on pace for 1,229 yards, and the best yards per attempt of his career. Even with his dropped passes, his catch % isn't really abysmal. Darrelle Revis has had 10 receptions against him in 7 games this year, and Brandon Marshall was half of them.
No way I can dispute Marshall's talent. I would prefer a #1 who is more consistent, gets the same yards with fewer catches, more of a team guy, and less problems. Again I say IF we can get that guy, I would make a move. If not, I can only hope that Marshall matures more than he has shown. He "can" be elite.
I see a lot of "Grass is Greener Syndrome" from fans in regards to Marshall. A 2nd round pick for him? So you can draft who, a player you...hope might one day be as good as Brandon Marshall?
A lot of NFL FOs operate under the same syndrome, though, so I wouldn't really be surprised to see a move like this.
True, but they'd be taking a bath if they did it now. Most teams usually do it before the player is owed big money, not after they've already given player said money. Unless you're the Redskins with Albert Haynesworth.

4/14/2010: Signed a five-year, $47.3 million contract. The deal contains $12.5 million guaranteed, including a $5.5 million signing bonus and $6 million of Marshall's 2012 salary barring a league suspension in the first three years. 2011: $6.5 million (+ $3 million roster bonus due 4/2), 2012: $9.3 million, 2013-2014: $9.1 million, 2015: Free Agent

That's a highly negotiable contract.
I have really been trying to post, haven't abandoned the forum. I read through quickly the daily posts, just haven't got anything new to say that I said many times before over the last two seasons: we need a franchise qb (Luck would be nice) and a real head coach. my son & I are planning our traditional/seasonal game in December when they play Philadelphia in Miami. win or lose the Dolphins are our team
Call me crazy but if we keep Marshal use him the way NE uses their TE Hernandez. Marshal is 6' 4" 230 Hernandez is 6'1" 240 I believe. Marshal is not a number one receiver. I believe Loyd in Denver took a lot of pressure off of Marshal and allowed him to get free. I love the way they use Hernandez up there. A Wr posing as a TE with their Big TE Grondkowski doing the bull work.
LOL, get back to me after the KC game and watch what they do with # 89 Jon Baldwin 6'$" 240. Get back to me and see where they line him up and watch what he does from the TE position. TE is not longer a postion where the player has to be a used as a blocking 6th lineman that can catch the ball. Miami hasn't figured that out yet. Watch when we play NE how they line up Hernandez and also get back to me. Marshal is the perfect fit. He gets little or no seperation due to his lack of speed and have to admit, he is tough after he catches the ball.
When a WR drops "5" TD passes he is not only part of the problem, he is a BIG part of the problem. Perhaps the offense doesn't appear competently managed because the #1 WR who is consistently thrown to in the end zone either can't get open or drops the pass. He more than anyone else has made Miami look incompetent in the Dead Zone.
Do not forget being run out of bounds by the invisible defender either. Never in all the years I have been watching football and admit, its as far back as YA Tittle at QB for the Giants, have I ever seen a receiver do what Marshal did a few weeks ago. Out run the defense, catch the ball, run 6 yards then supposedly lose your balance ?
By positions QB: Pat Devlin should get a look as should Matt Moore. I think anyone else is gone RB: Daniel Thomas Reggie Bush- If we get Andrew Luck he would be a nice safety net weapon for him to throw to or use FB: Charles Clay- see Bush WR: Marshall- I think he gets a pass Bess Hartline Gates TE: Fasano-maybe OL: Garner Long Pouncey Carey-possibly We need to get rid of the other guys. Maybe John Jerry comes back too. This position needs to be filled through free agency and it starts with Ben Grubbs and Carl Nicks DL: Langford comes back Soliai- He hasn't played great but who knows Odrick- still young Starks LB: Cameron Wake The rest need to be given their walking papers and that includes Karlos Dansby secondary: Smith Davis Wade Wilson Bell The rest need to go and that includes the safety's.
Peyton Hillis could be FA. That could be nice completmentary thumper RB to go with Thomas, and mix in Bush as 3-some. Modern day Csonka, Kiick, Morris rotation to help a new young QB?
