As we approach the half way point of the NFL season, there are nine legit contenders (some more so than others) for the #1 pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Here's a look at their records and remaining schedules.

At this point, one would think our Dolphins and Indy would be favored but, the game does take many unexpected turns.

Miami (0-6)- @ Giants, @ KC, Wash, Buff, @ Dallas, Oakland, Philly, @ Buff, @ NE, Jets

Indy (0-7)- @ Tenn, Atl, Jags, Carolina, @ NE, @ Balt, Tenn, Houston, @ Jags

St Louis (0-6)- NO, @ Zona, Cleve, Seattle, Zona, @ SF, @ Seattle, Cinci, @ Pitt, SF

    Arizona- (1-5)- @ Balt, St L, @ Philly, @ SF, @ St L, Dallas, SF, Cleve, A Cinci, Seattle

Minny- (1-6)- Carolina, @ GB, Oak, @ Atlanta, Denver, @ Detroit, NO, @ Wash, Chi

Jags- (1-5)- Balt (MNF), @ Houst, @ Indy, @ Cleve, Houst, SD, TB, @ Atl, @ Tenn, Indy

Denver- (2-4)- Det, @ Oak, @ KC, Jets, @ SD, @ Minny, Chi, NE, @ Buff, KC

Seattle- (2-4)- Cinci, @ Dallas, Balt, @ St L, Wash, Philly, St L, @ Chi, SF, @ Zona

Carolina (2-5)- Minny, Tenn, @ Det, @ Indy, @ TB, Atl, @ Houst, TB, @ NO

Philly is 2-4 but not a contender.

So hard to predict SoS% with so many weeks remaining....But I am still rooting for 1 WIN from the remaining Dolphin's schedule...but its so hard to think its out there. We may have blew our chance!

Opponents on INDY and STL still seem like a Win for each is possible...if not 2 but at least 1.

There's only 3 teams in Contention IMO. Seattle, St. LOUIS and Miami. Peyton is probably coming back. And till I hear that he's not, I don't think they legit Co.te.sets. Lucky for us Seattle and St. Louis play in the kindergarten of football.

there wont be a winless team this year, if its not us... St. Louis has had a brutal schedule starting the season, but they get to play in division which will get them a win or 3... i say same with Seattle and Arizona, with those 3 teams playing a round robin, they all will win something... im not worried about the NFC Westerners...

Indy and Jaguars are almost the same to me as well... and the Jags can also beat teams with a questionable run defense cause MJD can go off at any time, that equals potential wins against Clevelands suspect run defense, and maybe even Tampa

Minny will win some also, Peterson alone will win them a game or 2 in there...

i think we're in a good spot in the Luck sweepstakes... we will not have the SOS tiebreaker, no way with our division when Jets, Bills and Pats will all be over 500 most likely... but with our remaining schedule and Matt Moore under center, are there any winnable games left? i dont think so...

A VERY long way. The only thing I think I know is that one of these nine teams will get the #1 pick. It will get much more interesting around week #12.

Watch out for the Jags. They could fall down to the pack with us and Indy. I wouldn't count out the NFC West teams. Maybe one is really worse then the other two and they get swept. That leaves us with the 2nd pick.

Since the Rams have Sam Bradford, would they be interested in a QB?

I would be willing to wager that 2 wins are already out of it....1 Win will secure the #1 pick (not including a TEAM willing/able to TRADE UP).

only 6 teams have that chance currently.

We have a 1/6 chance....also think of it this way......we have a top 6 pick in the draft at the moment. And FRANCHISE QBs are deep enough to secure one.

Of all the teams that could go #1 with young - recently drafted QBs, seems like St Louis has the only one that could prevent them from taking Luck. but it's early. if Minny's QB keeps playing well, they could change their minds, but of course, if he plays well, they take themselves out of the sweepstakes.

I don't think teams take themselves out of the race because they have a good QB now. If anything, IMO they trade the pick to someone who is willing to forgo a ton of picks.

As bad as Miami has been St Louis has looked even worse.I don't think Miami loses all their games(they may ,I know) the Rams look like they put up less effort and are not at all into it.

Agreed, clearly, if any team is in front of Miami...we have to be concerned with other teams leap frogging us and trading up....especially if our brain-trust takes the attitude that they can stand-pat and not try to trade up themselves.

Just remember that Andrew Luck will be the #1 overall pick no matter who "gets" the #1 overall pick.

If the team with the #1 overall pick already has a QB (Rams or Indy), they will trade the pick for a boatload of picks. If we don't have the #1 overall pick, we'll certainly be at #2 or #3 and our picks will be more valuable to whomever is interested in trading the pick.

I dont know what I would be afraid of more......our brain-trust not willing to budge and not trade up and watch someone else leapfrog us.....or watch our brain-trust get tricked into selling everything to trade up to #1 when no other team would match what the #1 team was willing to pay.

Granted the trade up would get us Luck....so....probably a happier feeling.

I don't believe any of the nine, other than Carolina, would trade Luck. Peyton is old and no one knows how his neck will hold up. All the others are rebuilding. If Luck is as talented as everyone believes, I would rather be rebuilding with him and trying to trade what they now have at QB.

Not to pick on anyway but why? At this point I don't think we can go into any game thinking we can win, the team has shown time and again that they will find a way to lose no matter what.

I dont know about WASH. John Beck coming back to Miami, after being part of the 2007 team? He'll probably have a solid game. It would truly be destiny if John Beck beats us in 2011.

If we lose to NYG and KC, go to 0-8 and then lose AT HOME to Washington, then we are going 0-16. It will be destiny at that point, if it isn't already

All the two win teams are out of the run IMO because they will all win at least one more game. Also, if the Rams and Colts go winless the Fins could win 2 games and still be locked into the top 4. All depends on what Minny does... Personally, I dont see the Colts going winless because they have the Jags twice and the Panthers. Same thing for StL, as they have Az twice, Seattle twice and the Browns. That is 5 winnable games for them, I think they win 2 or 3 of those.

IMO, Miami has two games left of their schedule that they will be competitive in they are Washington and Oakland. Although both those games are in Miami which will give them a huge advantage! lol

I think this is a three team race between us, Indy and jax. The tough part for us is we will lose the strength of schedule tiebreaker against either so we need to finish one clear. I agree with everyone that says 1-15 will win this thing, if not 0-16. And as much as finishing 1-15 with the first pick is probably best case scenario,I would choose 0-16 with luck than 1-15 without him. I don't think the Detroit fans care about being 0-16 four years ago if stafford nets them a super bowl, and by all accounts luck is a much better prospect than stafford. We really need the colts to beat tenn this week, I wish that game was in Indy.

I don't see the rams as viable contenders as bad as they looked yesterday. They have 7 "winnable games" left. Same goes for Arizona, they are bad but their schedule is too soft to not win at least one more.

It's us, Indy or jax. Give me even odds on that and I will bet the mortgage.

The Colts and Jags play twice this year... they either split or knock the other team out of the race but it aint gonna be both of them. ;)

I agree it can't be both but it will be one or the other that is our main competition. We really need them to split or the colts to win both and jax sneak one more win against tenn or Cleveland

Who knows, but I guarantee they'll be interested in the multiple 1st round picks any team willing to move up for Luck would give them. Plus, the Rams have Bradford and his contract that was signed BEFORE the new CBA; they're on the hook for a lot of money tied up in Sam Bradford. If they get multiple picks as compensation for the right to take Luck, they could get a good number of players that will help them out.

Yeah, I doubt we beat the Skins. Anyone thinking that game is winnable is seriously underestimating that D. Orakpo and Kerrigan will tear our oline apart. Moore throws at least 2 picks.
Final score: Washington 23, Miami 12

You better hope Colombo stays because if they fix that right side and try some new things like say Cook at RG and Garner at RT we're going to win football games.

Colts might have a dilemma too. I mean, this team is BAD. Even with Manning they would not be super bowl material.

I wonder if they'd trade it and take Jones or Barkley or whoever, then use their extra picks to boost the rest of the team. They have a chance to win another Super Bowl with manning if they do that. And still have a possibly great QB, just not Luck.

They might trade Manning to the Jets or the Ravens and just draft Luck. Not that crazy of a possibility. Once Lewis and Reed retire those Ravens will go south quite a bit.

That offense is pretty terrible though, doubly so now that Grossman has reverted to form and Hightower is IRed and Moss is out for the next 5-7 games.

Bad teams like us, the colts, jags, etc will only stand a chance against two types of teams - low scoring or mistake prone. To win a game we will essentially need to catch several breaks because we will be the underdog. If we can catch Washington in a game where Rex or Beck cough it up a few times, or the Giants when Eli has one of his brain fart games we could pull something out.

I would think the Colts would do everything possible to at least keep Peyton out of the AFC. Seahawks, Niners, Skins, Vikes.
Those would be some of my first calls.

This site updates the SOS in season every so often: http://www.rogerspoll.com/nfl_2011_sos_wk6.html

Last update was week 6 ... not sure how he tabulates the score ... but as of week 6, we had the 4th toughest schedule to date ... which doesn't bode well for our draft tie breaker as the team with the weaker SOS gets the higher pick

Might depend on what kind of salary cap hit they'd have to take for trading him.
