Reporter.. ''Reggie, how do you feel about having a florida gator team being honored on a Miami Hurricane field''?

Reggie: This is my first year in miami and i'am just learning how things go down here, but that would never happen at USC in our stadium..never''

He was disgusted and embarrassed...As am I..

Yo Mike dee...Thank you for your contribution to our current national embarrassment..Your little promotion has gotten you national attention and you lucked out by having Tebow start the game..I hope the money you make off it was worth it..You have defamed and disgraced our franchise, a franchise that you were supposed to help, not disgrace..And Ross, your no better for signing off on something that was all about money, with no regard for the name you own...

What a disgusting display of executive leadership...I hope you feel good about yourselves..

Not a rant, just a fact.

Sorry Dee, but I really have no problem with it other than the game is against the Broncos. If I'm Ross, I gotta do what I gotta do to sell tickets. I really have no problem with Canes fans, if they don't like it, they should go play their games elsewhere.
This isn't my fight, but from a outsider living in Colorado, I don't have a problem with the owner trying to sell tickets.

    I am very disgusted...

That UM doesn't have its own stadium, and is forced to play in someone else's.

Stevie, thats just the thing, you live in Colorado, it does matter to people who live in miami...

I don't believe you should sell out, to make some quick cash, if it means embarrassing your team and name in the process, and there is no question that is exactly what has happened..He fu%$ed up..

With all due respect, I went to UM, and I have absolutely no problem with this.

The reality is, Mike Dee has to answer to Stephen Ross. Like any other business, he has to revenue targets he needs to hit. The University of Miami doesn't pay Mike Dee's salary.

DJ, if the Dolphins were 5-0 and competing nobody would care.

This is the least of our problems. There are TONS of Gator fans in Miami.. I love UM and really don't care about this. I only care about winning.

He sold out because he didn't think about the consequeces and the backlash..His job is to improve the image of our team, and create a fanbase and stadium that is something we can be proud of..At least that's what he said when he took the job..You don't comprimise the integrity and image of our name for some quick cash.

well, all I can say is that are many that do..and when you are trying to change and enhance a culture, you don't make this decision...This situation is being talked about and laughed about on national levels, that hurts the image of the culture, and that's failing at your job.You may not have a problem with it personally, but you may not be looking at it the way others are.

Oh good, this thread is restarted for the third time.

This has zero effect on our culture. You know how we change the culture? win the damn games. I've been listening to ESPN radio all week, and whenever the subject is brought up, it's a pretty minor issue. But by all means, keep blowing it out of proportion.

Reggie is 100% correct... it would never happen on USC's field at the LA Coliseum because there currently is not and hopefully never will be an NFL team playing in that pathetic stadium.

If it makes you feel better, just keep pretending your team is not the laughing stock of the NFL..It can't get any worse, and this stunt, helped us get there...

Watch the game and tell me there is a prescedent for the vibe that will be in that stadium, It hasn't existed before, but it will on sunday..

I can't believe I'am debating people on how embarrassing this is..Keep telling yourself its ok..whatever makes you feel better.

I don't think anyone disagrees that UM selling out and playing in Dolphins stadium is embarrassing. This was UM's choice, and they were aware of the consequences.

I'll tell you what. I'll report back on Monday and let you know what it was like.

Keep in mind, I've been in that stadium many times overrun by Steelers fans or Jets fans, so I'll see if it's any different

What does that have to do with Dee pimpin the gators during a miami dolphin football game...He did it to sell tickets..Which Iam saying was a very bad move, considering the negative publicity it has done to the team and the culture..

I don't think the publicity or culture would be any different if they weren't doing this promotion. If anything, there is a good chance the game would be blacked out, which IMO would be much worse. The fact is, this was done more out of necessity than a willingness to honor UF. There are UM alum in the organization, just like there are UF alumni.

I think its a marketing mistake longterm, and reflects badly on the brand.I thinks its sends a bad message to your fanbase, and does absolutely nothing positive but make a chunk of cash and embarrass your own players.

UM and its fans really have no grounds for complaint. They should be embarrassed, but don't blame it on other people that the school didn't want to be involved, or that you as fans are pretty much a completely inconsequential force to the Dolphins ticket sales or in terms of public outrage.

By all appearances, the Dolphins have sold out a home game that they otherwise would probably not have. Mike Dee absolutely did his job if that ends up being the case.

I don't think pissing off UM fans will have any negative effect at all on the Dolphins culture. If anything, if some of them stop becoming Dolphins fans, it'll be addition by subtraction. I don't follow any rival teams, and am more a fan of the game than any specific NCAA team, but UM fans are the worst. They're the worst in South Florida at least, which at least puts them in the running for worst in the country, professional or college, football or no.

I don't hate the fans either. I've got plenty of people I love who are alumni or die hard fans, but overall they are the absolute worst.

but who's talking about UM fans here?, I'am talking about whats best for our team, in our stadium, and our culture. The nation has no clue that there are issues with the U, they just see it as selling out for cash..

I think I might be missing something here, what did the University of Miami do to deserve this?, was there something when it was time to leave the orange bowl that pissed off cane fans?, did they choose to go to ''no life'' because they didn't want to build their own stadium on campus?

When you come to grips with THAT..........its like water running off a ducks back.....no effect at all.....

I am still completely at a loss of words as to why or how this is an embarrassment to the Dolphins. One would think being the worst team in the league would trump this. This is a nothing story.

The University of Miami is a paying tenant of Sun Life Stadium. The ownership team thought it prudent to celebrate the accomplishments of that tenant's rival, because they can't field a team good enough to entice their own fans. The Hurricanes are planning their own celebration and wanted to hold it on a Saturday. Their decision to antagonize the local college team is a bad idea because the bigger PR story isn't "lets celebrate the 2008 champion," it's "look the Dolphins are so desperate they needed to celebrate an opposing player to sell tickets because their team sucks."

Are people complaining b/c it's UF? Would these same people be complaining if they were honoring UM? Is it the honoring a college team that's bugging people? I really don't see how this has any impact or relevance to Dolphin culture.

There's a lot in the statement, "UM sold out," that needs elaborating if it is to be used so cavalierly. The OB needed renovations and ultimately the city council's decision-making made the Marlins park a better investment, for better or worse. In so choosing to do business withe Miami Dolphins didn't obligate the University to being humiliated. Why the Hurricanes should just "eat it" because it's Dolphins stadium is ridiculous. Coral Gables won't ever allow an on-campus stadium, so everyone demanding the school build one is naive.

I don't equate UM with the Dolphins. I don't have a problem with the Dolphins honoring any state team. I don't see how this is a Dolphin issue at all. I could understand UM feeling butt hurt, if they hadn't actually turned it down first. What I don't understand is why UM fans are claiming this has something to do with Dolphin culture.
