Been hearing a lot of scenarios about Andrew Luck maybe taking a stance against the fins if we get the #1 pick because of our behavior, and honestly, it had me thinking a lot and worrying a bit, until I changed my perspective.

If the player has the character that we think and believe he has, he will accept this challenge if it comes down to it..Choosing to hold out or be traded for a different team, or stay in school another year because of it, would be an indictment on his character..What would that say about him? seriously?...I'll tell you the word that comes to my mind, it starts with a P and ends with an Y..and if that is truly how he feels {which I don't believe is} then I wouldn't want him here, and it wouldn't piss me off one bit to look for the right QB..

So, if we believe this player is what we think he is, and were #1 on the draft board, he will be a Miami Dolphin, and if not, he's truly flawed.

why would anyone think Luck would avoid Miami? Its a franchise with a lot of history, in a great area to live, no state income tax, weapons on offense, etc...

would he rather to go Indy? what does Indy have over Miami? A QB who will still be starting for 3 years to make Luck wait?
would he rather go to Denver? Hear Tebow nonsense every week?

In Miami, he gets a fresh start with a new coach, rather then go into someone elses sinking ship... its the perfect situation for any QB right now...

I never understood why people worried about him deciding to stay away from Miami

    1. Only paranoid ninnies think he'll pull some John Elway/Eli Manning BS.
    2. He knows that if he goes to Miami, he'll have Jake Long protecting his back. This is not for nothing.
    3. This thread belongs in the Suck 4 Luck thread.

Unless he was a serious die-hard Jets/Pats/Bills fan and was absolutely adamant that he would never play for a rival and beat his team every 2 years then that's the only way I can ever see him refusing to play here. But the kid will have an agent and have probably 10 million more reasons to come here, then force his hands to be picked 2nd or 3rd.

The whole thing about him saying "suck for luck is stupid" is all PR. Is he supposed to come out and say he's fine with an NFL franchise tanking games on purpose? It would look horrible on the background check, you would then have teams thinking "hmm, will this guy just mail it in after the team is 1-3 or 0-4 in hopes to get the coach and GM fired and get a high pick?" No chance he bails.

I worried a bit, for a bit, but no more, no more prisoner of that paranoia.. I do hope our fanbase displays more class in their overtures of the player, and not publicly promote SFL, but I understand their passion on the subject, they just need to understand that promoting it does no good for the image of the fanbase, and each person should take their own accountability and try to do what they can do in their own small way, to change the culture.

The Bengals are 4-2 and the Lions are 5-1.

    We should not throw stones.

First off, I don't think the crowd's Suck For Luck stance would be the reason he avoids Miami.

Secondly, if he does avoid Miami for other reasons, it won't necessarily be an indictment of his character any more than it was John Elway's.

Third, has anyone even isolated a quote where he said he doesn't want to play for a fanbase that would hope to Suck For Luck? Because the only quote I have seen was one where he was asked if he'd heard about the Suck For Luck phenomenon and his only words were "I've heard about it, and simply put, I think it's stupid."

Big whoop. How does that turn into "I don't want to play for a fanbase that would want to Suck For Luck."?

Miami is not a bad place to play, live, etc. He would have a decent amount of talent around him. If you are worried about his fear of the fans antics, go take a look at what Denver is doing. That's not even the fans, their entire FO is doing everything in their power to SFL. Start Tebow, trade Lloyd. It's terrible.

He's going where the money is. Did Matthew Stafford turn down the 0-16 Lions who were abysmal? No...and now look where they are! Rookie QBs should expect to go to struggling teams and try and build something.

Thats my point, I don't think he will not play for us because of SFL hype by this franchise, and the other point I was making is, if he was to decide to stay in school another year, anyone who does that in this situation, I don't trust as a football player and leader of my team..

So what I'am sayin is its all good, if were in position to select him, with the player and person I think he is, he will be ours.

For any QB being drafted #1 overall, you are not going to an ideal situation. That said, our situation next year is probably better than most teams with the #1 overall pick (presuming we get it). We'll have a presumably healthy Jake Long protecting his backside - perhaps the best LT in all of football, if not, 2nd. He'll have a budding star snapping the ball to him (hey, remember when people were worried about Pouncey making snaps?). He'll have a good (not great) #1 in Marshall to throw to, not to mention an outlet in Bess. And who knows who else he'll have added to throw to - you gotta figure whoever comes in to coach this kid is going to build a pass-friendly system around the kid! Not to mention Daniel Thomas running the ball, and what you have to believe would be a slightly better O-line. And we do have some talent on defense.

All-in-all, he can probably expect a playoff run in his second year, and then build from there to what we hope is a year-in-and-year-out team that competes for the conference title and beyond, similar to the Colts (w/ Manning, of course), Pats and Steelers.

Quite frankly, we DESERVE Andrew Luck after all the pain we've suffered through since Marino. It's sad when the most stable QB we've had during this time is the overachieving (but undertalented) Fiedler, and the best we've had is known more for being a Jet. The rest have been pretty much garbage. I mean, how long are we to suffer - we get it GOD, you gave us a gift in Marino in '83, and you wanted us to see what it was like for other teams, not so lucky to have a guy like him. We get it, we know - we understand how lucky we had it. Now, please, bring us the one called Luck!!!

Seriously, for my sanity (our collective sanity?), we need this!!!

And quite frankly, in a private moment, I would think that he'd be happy to go to a fanbase that wants him on their team desperately! And I think openly hoping (even slightly) that your team bombs so we can get him could be considered desperate. Believe me, last night was not enjoyable at all, but when you understand it may all be worth it in about six short months, it makes it a little easier to swallow. Still bitter, but it will make the coming sweet taste all the better.

I've basically echoed that same sentiment in a different thread about SFL. When you're a top college QB you have to be prepared to go to a bad team and be part of the solution.
