Just a thought since there are rumblings of him coming to the NFL. Now I am very skeptical obviously as anybody would be based on the lack of success college coaches have in the NFL. This man is pretty innovative though, could be a good option.
Nick Saban is considered to be the best or certainly in the top 5 college coaches in the nation. Is Les Miles better than Saban.I dont think so.
I think Miles is an excellent college coach and that is where he needs to stay, in college. I have zero desire to see him as the next Dolphin HC.
Les Miles makes some very stressful choices. I would pass even if his services were steeply discounted.
I think they would have a better shot with an NFL assistant-the college guys are not always as good as a pro.
I watch a lot of LSU games. Les is a lot like Herm Edwards. Good motivator. Terrible game-day coach. He's an excellent recruiter. NorFlaFin is right. The guy wins games based on talent...the talent of his players, not his own talents as a coach.
I like Les he has the courage that 4 of our former coaches didnt have so it would be a yes for me . in all seriousness I am a big Steve Mariuchi fan alone with Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher. and there is another name to think about. his name is Mike Leach say what youwill but man he is what wecouldusesince we hae Rex Ryan and Bill B.
Product of the program. Same as Saban. Saban moved from LSU then sucked, then moves to yet another program. If he had balls he would have moved to the WAC and took a team to the BCS. Carroll = same college product of the program. Spurrier. Get where this is going? Its the friends of the program who build it and bring in the players. The head coach just needs to do his best and not make too many mistakes. Look at people who built programs through coaching and systems. I.E. Texas Tech, Boise State.
Lord, have mercy. This is not just in response to you, so please do not think that I am picking on you. I have heard it quite a bit every time something like this is mentioned, and your post just happened to have the similar thought and was on my screen. But this sounds so much like what I hear every time someone presents an idea in the church. Someone will always remember a similar suggestion some time in the past, and utter the Eight Deadly Words. "We tried that before and it didn't work." Therefore, every suggestion is tainted for all eternity by one horrid example of following that suggestion in a previous occasion. To raise this to the ridiculous, what if the first time you kissed someone, they sneezed. Would you never kiss anyone again?
Worst idea ever. His clock management is rivaled only by Tony Sparano and whatever idiot is coaching the Panthers.
Yea. So glad we didn't get that Jim Harbaugh guy either. I hate this line of thinking I really do. Les Miles would be an awful NFL coach, but that doesn't mean all college coaches make terrible NFL coaches.
I don't have an issue with a guy coming from College, it has worked out great for other teams in the past, and now with San Fran, Harbaugh has that team playing light years better than any coach has in recent years. Its important to note that Saban was a good coach here, the team doctors screwed him with the Brees decision. I really believe he's still be here and we would be competing for a title year in and year out if we had picked up Brees. Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to Leach, I do think he would find a way to put up points in the NFL. I think some new ideas on offense are necessary with rules basically making defense a footnote. The power Oline and defense coaches can go somewhere else and finish .500.
LOL. If it were just Nick Saban I was thinking about, then I might agree with you. Butch Davis, Bobby Petrino, Lou Holtz, Dennis Erickson, Steve Spurrier... They're all fine men and good coaches, but that's a track record I don't want to contribute to.
I prefer to use this one on people: The first time you tried to walk, you fell down. You kept on trying and now.....
Well, I appreciate your concern with my post on this topic....... I wouldn't just kiss anyone, definitely a girl, but I would also do my homework as to why she sneezed on me..Did she have allergies, was it the environment, did I have on cologne that she couldnt handle, did she have a cold? I would do my research so that disaster wouldnt happen again. Ok, I was heated in my post prior, but i'm entitled to do just that, am I wrong for having an opinion no, but to some on here yes. Now Rev Im not saying you and as I said I appreciate what your saying regarding my above post.....Obviously I dont have the power to decide who does what for the Fins and as my buddy Dolfan4life put it, he wouldnt mind an interview with him. If they felt he was the right man for the job, then I have no choice but to support..I personally would like to go in a different direction with maybe a Gruden,Cowher or another coach with NFL experience....my opinion anyway
I'm sure that it's not only you who thinks so about another possible college head coach candidate but it looks like ppl are overracting here lately, especially during this weeks bye week! Doing research and having more than one candidate is normal but personally i'd prefer Jon Gruden as #1 choice but it's also not up to me, you or any other Dolfan, it's up to Mr. Ross and no matter who will be the next HC i'm also sure there will be a lot of Dolfans who won't like the choice of the next HC, maybe i'm one of it, i guess we'll see! Good post buddy!
To be fair, winning in college is all about the recruiting of blue-chippers. A guy that wins while recruiting nobodys is Jim Grobe @ Wake Forest or Chris Peterson @ Boise State.
i wanted Harbaugh this past year .... and want only Cowher this year .... Gruden, while amusing - won with another man's team; same for Les Miles .... he won with Saban's team and will get beat yet again this year by Saban as he wins his 3d ring. if Harbaugh could make Smith look good -- imagine what he could have done with Henne ... next to the Culpepper choice, losing out on Harbaugh was the biggest blunder this franchise has made in the last 6 years.
After learning that Huizenga was the ultimate decision maker on the Brees/Culpepper choice and that being the reason Saban left, I'm starting to consider giving Saban an appeal on his eternal damnation to that special place in hell. If the man wanted what he wanted, knew he could be successful with it and was told no, I could understand the mindset of "then what in the hell am I doing here?" I think after he lost out on the opportunity to get Brees, his heart was no longer in to coaching a team that wasn't willing to give him what he wanted.
Harbaugh is an exception. He has NFL experience as a QB. He knows what it's all about. I don't want a college coach unless he comes up and spends a few years as an assistant coach somewhere. Sorry, No Les Miles.
