Why we must pick first in the 2012 draft.

I think its well established the our beloved team has horrible luck (no pun intended). If we don't pick first Andrew luck will be gone. Of course its obvious that no team in their right mind would pass on Luck if he was available, however... If Indy and St Louis do pick in front of us I doubt Jeff Ireland or the Gm at that point would throw away a draft or two for Luck like Ditka did for Ricky Williams. Its obvious why St louis wouldn't draft luck but what if Peyton comes back and Indy tries to win one more time with him? I'm sure there would be team out there to trade a draft or two for that number one pick. So its either we draft Andrew Luck or we settle for Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, or RGIII. IMO however this draft class seems pretty strong for QBs.

I don't see St Louis getting the 1st pick. It's between Miami and Indy imo.

Well we could get the number one pick or get Lucky and have the teams above us be Carolina and St. Louis, otherwise I think Luck is gone with the first pick. Even if a team like Carolina or St. Louis has the first pick in the draft they will still get very strong trade offers so if we are out of the first pick we will probably have to trade up to get Luck.

I'm not ready to dismiss minnesota yet. They have 3 very strong teams in that division and already lost a very winnable game at KC. They're as bad as we are and in as good a division

The problem I think unless we have a HC that really wants him idk how far the FO would go to try and get him.

I'm not saying they wouldn't draft Luck, but they did draft Ponder in the 1st round last year and they have a crap load of holes. Hopefully they are tempted just to fix the holes around Ponder.

Pretty sure any coach that doesn't have a qb named Rodgers brees Brady manning rivers or roethlisberger is going to want him.

I agree but the thing is as long as we in the top three and maybe have the most glaring need at qb in the league then whoever does pick one is going to get significant offers from someone who wants to jump us and take luck. The OP is correct, we need to draft first to get Luck or we will be needing to offer a boatload of picks and players to move up

Only 2 teams IMO are likely to "beat" us in the SFL stakes: KC & Denver. Sadly they both need QB's.

Even if we get the 5th pick in the draft we some how find what the offer is to move up to the 1st. If jeff Ireland is still here I can see him drafting an o-lineman and please help us at that point.
I can just see MeL Kiper Jr in disbelief.

Ponder will be starting soon and if they end up with the 1st pick with him starting chances are they will draft Luck and ship Ponder off.

After someone mentioned that Peyton hasn't been put on IR and appears hellbent on coming back (perhaps for selfish reasons - heck, I know if I had a $100 million deal on the line I'd do everything to get back) I'm not sure if we should worry about the Colts as much. Once Peyton is back, they'll win a few games and be energized by him. I think the Seahawks might be a threat to us. I think our biggest worry would be a team with a settled QB getting the #1 pick and auctioning it off for huge returns. If the Rams are #1 and we're #2 or #3, we'd probably have to give up our #1, #2, and another pick to move to #1. I'm confident that Luck would be worth it, but at the same time, I really want those high later round picks so we can add some legit contributors.

Denver does need a QB, yes. They're a dark horse in the Suck for Luck sweepstakes.

KC… that's up in the air. They could still believe in Cassel, particularly since he has 3 years left on his contract. Alternatively, Scott "Egoli" Pioli tends to think the same way as Jeff Ireland, coming from the Parcells tree as Ireland does: he may not value the QB position enough to devote all that guaranteed money to a rookie. A second alternative is KC drafting Luck, yes. But, honestly? KC has a bunch of winnable games on their schedule. Indy this week, us in week 9, Denver in weeks 10 and 17.

Since all the Suck for Luckalypse teams all play each other this year, a two win team could conceivably still land the first overall pick.

We also play KC head to head this yr, that could determine the "Winner" of this sorry contest.

Only Rams would trade away #1 pick in the draft...maybe. Rams may choose to draft Luck and trade away Bradford to highest bidder.

There will be plenty of talent at the top of the draft. Hopefully, a top 5 pick won't be wasted on taking a QB other than Luck just for the sake of taking a QB. Would rather have them go after Flynn and draft Blackmon. The safety position definitely needs to be addressed as well.

Do you even hear yourself??? St Louis has built their team around Bradford and staked their future around him. Drafting Luck and trading Bradford would be the equivalent of San Franciso drafting Elway and trading Montana. Is Bradford a Joe Montana. Not yet...if he ever will be, but has Bradford proven he has what it takes to lead the Rams to victory? Sure has!

st louis wont be in the running, their first half schedule is brutal, but their second half schedule has them playing their NFC west counterparts lots, which should give them a few wins... I see us, Minnesota and Indy as the best bets for 1st pick, with us as the front runner with Henne out for the season...

It doesn't make sense for them to draft a QB in the first two years in a row, especially if they haven't even played the first one yet. I think as fans we forget the NFL isn't Fantasy Football. You can't tie up that much of your team with two guys. They have to give Ponder at least a year or two. If he was a 2nd Round pick like Jimmy Clausen, that'd be another story. But the guy was drafted 12 overall.

There might be a riot in Denver if Tebow doesn't get a shot.

The thing about Denver is that I think the Tebow bandwagon is so strong that pressure to play him is going to force their hand. The Tebow faithful want the guy to get a shot at it all. If Denver is up there, I think they'd draft pieces to put around Tebow or some defense.

Granted there are other teams in the running for the number one spot I have yet to see any of them play as if thay have packed it in like we are doing right now!

Denver under Fox with Orton will win a few, the Colts player have way to much pride to fold up Jeff and Reggie won't ever let that happen, KC is showing some fire and will win a few, even Jax doesn't look THAT bad. As for the Seabirds Carrol wants to keep his job so his pride won't let them quit.

Nope, while there are other 0-4 teams, we are playing way worse imho.

Hey, I am just saying the Rams have options. First of all, who is to say Bradford doesn't get hurt "again" and that opens the door wide open for the Rams to keep the pick and draft Luck. And "yes" comparing Bradford to Montana is a joke at this point. Bradford's record so far is 7-13 and out of the 7 wins only "1" win is against a team that finished with a winning record (2010 they beat the 9-7 SD Chargers). Of course, that was during the Chargers typical slow start in which they were 2-5 last year.

So am I saying they would? No. But it is an option. Who knows, there may be some members in the organization by next year that don't think Bradford will ever be Montana2 given his 75.3 QB rating and 5.9 ypa, but do think Luck is the 2nd coming of Elway. Rams may even decide to keep both on the roster and see if Luck outplays Bradford.

Given the new CBA it is not going to set an organization as far back if they make the wrong call with #1 pick like it would have up till this year.

I would love for the Dolphins to get Luck in the 2012 draft. While that would be my number one choice, I wouldn't be totally upset if the Dolphins don't get the first pick and they end up with Landry Jones instead. He may not be as ready to step into the NFL as Luck is right now, but I think he is going to be a top tier QB in the NFL over the next decade. I'm not real crazy about Barkley, so I hope he isn't the next QB of the Dolphins. If Miami somehow wins enough games to draft between 10-15 in the first round, I would hope that Griffin would still be available when the Dolphins select.

Living in Colorado your right Tebow mania is beyond crazy. Hard not to like the kid but, if Luck is an option I'd take him in a second. The only game I expect Denver to win is in week 17 but, who knows.
