Ross is dumb enough to do this!! "It's OK Tony, it's not your fault that your starting QB went down. So here's an extension for another year!"
Followed up by "Thanks boss, by the way, I'm excited that we have the 1st pick and am looking forward to adding another piece to the O-Line. Jeff and I already discussed."
PLEASE NO MORE THINKING GUYS WE ARE BAD AT THAT TOO. if Ross did that then Miami ought to run MR Ross right out of miami . do you guys think there is something going on behine the sceenes ?
I had a different thought about 30 minutes ago. What if we "tampered" with Andrew Luck (since he's not draft eligible until he declares) and we start courting him already. Then we get in trouble and have to forefeit the #1 pick. heheheh....
Can someone explain where this "Ross is dumb" sentiment comes from? It makes no sense, unless dumb is defined as "not doing exactly what the fan wants when the fan wants it."
Dude, he's only worth $3.1 billion, has a business school at the U of Michigan named after him, owns 95% of both our team and our stadium, has a real estate empire and owns the Time Warner Center in NYC. Clearly smarts are not one of his attributes.
He's going to recognize the vast empty orange seats. 51,000 showed up to the Texans game. Now that the season is done and fans want the team to lose for Luck, that number could drop to 41,000. This is the worst attendance has ever been. Dolphins are usually around top 15, even during this bad stretch since 2004. Now they're down to 29th. That's a massive drop already. He's going to make changes. Unless he is a moron when it comes to sports. I'm sure he knows all about Luck though, and the fans with "Suck for Luck." Omar said the players are aware of it. (and aren't happy...but we're not happy the franchise has been in the dumps for 8 years)
"Dad, why does that seat have a face?" "Its not a real face son, Mr. Ross just puts cardboard cutouts on top of the seats so that people watching on TV think someone is in the stands" The thoughts in this thread are scary because this team has people dumb enough to actually think this way at this point
Really? That's it? That's all? I wanted Harbaugh to come in just as much as anyone, but you're kidding yourself if you think it would have changed anything without giving Jeff Ireland the boot as well. By not bringing in Harbaugh, we're now set up to fire Sparano and Ireland as a package deal and bring in pairings like Bill Cowher and Omar Khan, or Pete Carmichael, Jr. and Russ Ball, something like that. And I prefer that sort of makeover to the tandem of Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Ireland.
I think its time to start cheating. **** it.If at first your don't succeed, try again. But if you fail twice, start cheating. Let's kidnap Mark Sanchez and beat the **** out of him until he agrees to make tons of mistakes, causing his team to stand no chance of victory. Wait....let me rethink that.
My horrible thought: "With the #1 pick overall of the 2012 draft, the Miami Dolphins select Matt Kahlil, tackle, USC."
I don't know the 49ers aren't any more talented than us and they are playing much better than we are. Harbaugh seems like he has a bright future as a HC, Sparano has a bright future as a Oline coach maybe.
I'm not defending sticking with Sparano instead of hiring Harbaugh. I'm saying that the path we're currently on—toward Andrew Luck plus a remade front office and new coaching staff—is likely better for us long-term than sticking with Henne and Ireland and just adding Harbaugh to the equation. Tony Sparano is not a great coach, but he's not the primary problem.
Well a remade front office and new coaching staff is nice but we are a far ways away from Luck. He could very well go back to school or we could be picking in the top 5 out of reach for him. I'd say we have about a 5% or so chance of getting Luck at this point, its not a given at all. I'd rather have a legit coach now than hope we get a legit coach in the offseason. We could very well get turned down by guys like Gruden or Cowher if we are out of reach for Luck.
Which is ironic considering he's running his current business, The Dolphins, completely into the ground. He's made just about every poor move one could make as an owner. Sports is unlike any other business IMO. Being successful at one does not mean you'll be successful at the other. *Dan Snyder nods in agreement*
Such as? Seriously, what? As near as I can tell, people just don't like the orange carpet and the minority ownerships and springboard from that to "Ross is incompetent." The only questionable move Ross has made, IMO, is passing on Harbaugh, but that's put us in Suck for Luck mode so I really don't mind the result there. Now, if Ross fires Sparano but retains Ireland, and attempts to foist Ireland upon the likes of a Bill Cowher, then we'll have a problem.
Did he pass on Harbaugh or did Harbaugh choose to go with San Fran? Something tells me it was the latter. That move was horrible, I think it undermined the team in a way that Ross didn't anticipate, it was a really dumb move. You really had to fire Sparano before you went coach shopping, it showed a lack of experience and class really.
Yeah, not sure what he was thinking. Harbaugh accepts job, then they fire Sparano the next day? Not sure what on earth they were thinking.
If you wanted a new coach you fire the present coach, I'm not sure what is confusing about that. We've been a national joke since Ross went after Harbaugh then extended Sparano, it was a complete bush league move. Worked out great didn't it?
Harbaugh, Orange Carpet, Gator Day, selling Jets shirts in the Team Store, getting rid of 1 PM. games off the top of my head.
In other words, not much. Seriously, that's a terrible list. The orange carpet? Moving 1 PM games? This is Ross trying to get people to come to games, because attendance fell off a cliff after the 2007 season. He's letting the football people do their thing and he's trying to add around that. If the football people don't do their thing, he'll replace them. The Jets t-shirts thing was overblown, considering that every team in the league sells other teams' apparel. Yes, the Jets undoubtedly sell Dolphins stuff in their team store too. Gator Day is silly but it's not a reason to call Ross a terrible owner. Honestly, if we're 2-2, this conversation never happens.
Doesn't make him dumb, though. That said, I don't see evidence he's running the show like Al Davis or Dan Snyder. He may have laid a few ground rules but everything else we've heard is all speculation. His one mistake in my opinion is hanging on to Sparano and chasing Harbaugh. Once the decision was made to chase Harbaugh Sparano should have been fired. Period. Before flying out there. Other than that, what has he actually done. It's Parcells/Ireland that put this team together. Ross has only been in action one offseason that's it. Since January essentially. He hasn't run this team into the ground. This team was running itself into the ground already. And you can place equal blame on Ireland. Why doesn't he make a stand. "Fire Sparano or don't go after Harbaugh." No his squirrelly arse gets on a plane and chases Harbaugh too.
While true, he also had to consider the then-impending lockout. And I, for one, welcome our Suck for Luck overlords.
