Just curious about how Matt Moore is doing down in Miami? I don't know much about Chad Henne, but Matt Moore never got a fair chance in Carolina and I think he's got starter potential. John Fox and offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson mustered a lame duck season last year and a 2-14 season and arguably the worst offense in NFL history was the result. It was an embarrassing year to be a Panther fan, but I can tell you it wasn't the players fault... Matt Moore had a number of good games for the Panthers. Always seemed to click with Steve Smith, so maybe he can get some chemistry with Brandon Marshall. From the stat line, it looked like had a good first pre-season game. I'm looking forward to seeing him take on the Panthers next week.
11 for 18, 2 TDs and 1 INT, and a 95.4 QBR. Some will tell you that it came in garbage time against scrubs, but you have to keep in mind that he was also playing with scrubs. So take it all with a grain of salt.
Frankly I really liked what I saw in him last night, decisive, accurate, nice spiral, good read progressions. If Henne doesn't get his head on straight, Moore might just give him a run for his position IMHO. But I am not qualified to judge like some of our resident guru's.
I don't think Moore's taking his spot, but I do feel much better about Moore filling in than I do Thigpen.
Gotta agree with this. Henne didn't show to me last night that he did NOT deserve to be the starter, but Moore looked pretty good against the backups. I'd like to see him maybe get a start in the 3rd preseason game to see how he does against a starting D.
I dont see ANY way Moore gets to start when it all counts unless Henne gets hurt. Sparano and Ireland have put all their eggs in the Henne basket so I believe they will sink or swim with him, at least for the first few games. but maybe thats just me...........
Henne is our starter. He'd have to mess up royally during the preseason to change that. During the regular season however, when real wins and losses start racking up, watchout. This FO has pulled Henne before. They have no qualms about that.
To be honest, I like what I saw out of both QBs... I think Daboll coming in has made a big impact on Henne. I admit I haven't seen much of Moore at all... but, I saw both QBs making adjustments during the plays... pointing... shouting... etc... you did not see any of that from ANY of our QBs last year. I think we are a much more QB friendly offense now.
Nothing impressed you about putting the ball in between 2 defenders on the money to Wallace, with a defender in his face? Nothing impressed you about putting the ball in between 2 defenders on the money to Gates? Nothing impressed you about putting the ball on the money to Gates in the endzone with 3 defenders draped over him? Nothing impressed you with his TD throw to Wallace while getting destroyed? Nothing impressed you about his pocket awareness, and using his feet to keep plays going? I find that hard to believe.
I agree. I liked what I saw from Moore. Much more so than with Henne. I understand Moore was playing against backup, but still.
Watched him: -effectively use a play action fake to create a big play down the field -effectively deliver the ball in the face of heavy pressure -effectively give a tall Wr a chance to make a play deep down the field -effectively use the back line in the EZ by throwing the ball into a smallish window -Display some passion for his job. Sparano was working with Henne like mad man in practice yesterday, but common sense tells me Moore should get some run time with the #1's as Chad has missed time in each of the last 2 yrs. Chad Henne is still the guy, Moore has not changed that fact.
First, I didn't say nothing impressed me. There were some quality plays, but I thought he could have done better.
Moore looked closer to what he was two years ago. He had more rhythm to his game. Last year he just looked out of sync. I think a big part of that is Daboll. Daboll looks like a huge improvement over last season. I was not among those that flipped out when we signed Moore. I see him as a clear upgrade to Thigpen and a guy I would feel comfortable with as a fill-in starter. I don't see him as a potential franchise guy, but he could be as productive as an Orton in the right system. And Daboll seems to be putting in one of those QB friendly system that will be the "right" system for a good number of QBs.
His performance was promising .I certainly feel more confident having him at backup than Thigpen . The later also had his moments in KC before he landed on our roster but we soured on him after mediocre performances. Thus one preseason game is too premature to be overly enthusistic about another backup QB.
I liked the Moore signing but I dont think he puts Henne's job in any real jeopardy unless Henne plays himself out of the position. As has been beaten to death, Henne is either going to have to prove the naysayers wrong or we will be looking for a new QB next year. Moore is a good backup but not a starter, especially not on a playoff team. He did do some good things the other day though.
I think these guys are going to give Henne a fair chance to prove he can take his game up another level or two. But I do keep flashing back to Sparano's statement that they wanted a guy with some mobility that can keep plays alive with his feet. At some point if Chad shows he can't keep the inconsistency out of his game I don't think they'd hesitate to finally pull the trigger.
If he helps us get the #1 overall pick like he helped you guys get the #1 overall pick...excited isn't even the right word.
How could anyone not think that Henne would be injured at some point this yr when he has missed time the prior 2 yrs due to injuries?
We'll have to name a new drink after him. The Lucky? The Tank? Just borrow the recipe from George S. Patton's "armored diesel" drink.
Well, I pointed out the things I liked about Moore in the preseason, to me they haven't went away. I think the RZ offense will improve now, Moore has the instinct to punch the ball in, he does not have the same sort of conscious that Henne had.
Haha no Matt Moore didn't really help us get the #1 overall pick...that honor is bestowed upon Jimmy Clausen. The guy who in starting 10 games, Cam Newton has surpassed in stats and wins in 4 games. Moore only started 4 games for the Panthers last year and went 1-3. Last year was just a perfect storm for the Panthers, it had a lot more to do than the QB situation.
What's up Hepcat... From now on I will be representing the Huddle and my love for Matt Moore so carry on. lol j/k this is jasonluckydog
