-- Dolphins Fail to Sign Veteran Free Agent QB --

    Tue Oct 4, 2011 --from FFMastermind.com

NFL.com reports the Miami Dolphins made unsuccessful attempts (at least for now) to sign free-agents QB David Garrard and QB Jake Delhomme this week. The team has been unwilling to guarantee any of the base salary in its offers, sources said, and with the situation there so dire and the status of HC Tony Sparano an ongoing issue, veterans have looked for some sort of gesture that they would be around for more than just a week or two. Garrard, a longtime starter in Jacksonville who was slated to make upwards of $9 million in 2011 before being released just before the start of the regular season, could end up signed for $1.5-2 million and has been looking for at least a portion of that to be guaranteed. Delhomme was a back-up in Cleveland last year and spent most of his career in Carolina where he led the Panthers to a Super Bowl berth. He was with current Dolphins OC Brian Daboll last year in Cleveland.

I knew this would happen, and there it is, the revolving door of talent this regime has made commonplace for the last four years is keeping good talent away. Talent-in, talent-out has turned off the cream of the crop and some day no one will want to play for us at any price. Look at what they did to Larry Johnson! NFL players what what everyone else wants - job security and a chance to grow from within an organization.

Instead of trying to develop talent to grow and play together they insist that players are like light bulbs; screw one in, unscrew it and through it away, repeat. I HATE everyone in this regime. They all should be unscrewed and thrown away. They are making our organization a laughing stock.

Wait for it......wait for it................wait for it...

Speechless, granted they are probably kicking tires, but those two were not "good" Qb's let alone even starter quality Qb's.

Learned not to get to upset over stuff like this, if Henne can rehab, then they need a body for the #2 or #3 Qb, if he is out, they need better options but I'd have Sage Rosenfels on that list as well.

Though imo people are selling Moore short.

Will say if I had DTrain in FF this week, I'd start him, might start Lexxy as well, suspect we go run heavy v the Jets.

I am just laughing because, we are in such bad shape that we can't get Garrard or Delholme (not that this one would even matter) so we are down to Trent friggin Dilfer and Brodie Croyle. I am sorry, but, I can't help but laugh at what this organization has done to itself. It's sad...

Delhomme probably retired, Garrard wants big $$$, without knowing Henne's situation paying him beforehand makes -0- sense.

If Henne is out for the yr, that is one thing, if he is out for a month and a half, that is completely different.

I don't see why it's all that different, but that's just me. There's no way Garrard can command big $$$ with no other offers out there, if he wants to play at all (perhaps that's his prerogative though)... personally I don't think he wants to come here. We are carrying 2 QBs, there is no reason we can't keep Garrard even if Henne comes back.

Sure he can, Garrard has been around the block enough times to know, sooner or later, some team will fill his pocket.

Same thing with C-Pepe, Steelers offered him a deal, he turned it down as he knew some team, in this case the Lions, would pay him over a million.

That may be, but I just don't see it happening this year. Especially if he wants what I think he's asking for... 2M-3M with most of it guaranteed. Who do you think will be calling his number with a better chance at starting than us? Even if he came here hoping to light the world on fire for a big contract offer next year, we are not the place to do so. He would be running for his life here.

Yessir, and imo he does not really fit what they want to do on offense, he is more of a playaction pass guy, not a 3 Wr Qb type of player.

Now "if" they repurpose the offense to more smash mouth, then sure, if not, there is little reason to pay him imo.

On a serious note though, the fact that Garrard is still on the market, when places like Indy have dumpster fires, should tell everyone that this is not a "normal" yr.

Well "duh" rotoworld, and we are better served with MMoore starting in the short term, so why pay him millions?

That makes much more sense, but I wonder how much guaranteed money he is actually looking for. I noticed we offered NONE what so ever, I don't get that... we have room to carry another QB, so why not offer SOME guaranteed money? I still think he wants to be guaranteed a starter with an opportunity to rekindle what is left of his career and this is not the place to do so.

This may be a little more serious than we know. It looks like the word has spread through the NFL about our "talent turnstile" and that will bite us in the *** with other players that we really may want at other positions down the road. This does have a serious undertone. Everyone from Reggie Bush to Ricky Williams to Jason Taylor has made bad comments about this org from the inside out. Where there is smoke there is fire. Something's very wrong on the inside. When no one is happy in Miami the traveling word will bite us majorly. Miami used to be a place where people wanted to come and play, not dreaded to be and couldn't wait to leave.

Well, you know Ireland, he is loath to come off of money, could be a tactic to move Garrard off of a big number, and Garrard for his part knows if Henne comes back as out for the yr, he does not have to come down all that far to land guaranteed money.

Noticed they cut Nate Jones to add that OL Barker, and added a PS NT.

I don't mind if they wait on signing a free agent QB.

Word is they've worked out the likes of Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle...as well as being in contact with David Garrard and Jake Delhomme. Garrard is the only one I'd fear...IF he's healthy.

No, what I thinks is happening is Jones should not be playing, Burnett does not know the D, Vontae Davis being out also really weakens the D coupled with Dansby having a bad groin is combining to make the secondary a sieve.

There are several things that have combined at one time to make the D bad, but fixable.

I think all things here are "fixable" on both sides of the ball, I truly do, either in the very short term or the end of the season. The 2012 draft is very deep at FS and SS as well as QB. Not that we are in dire need of a QB but it's nice to know that they are available in we find ourselves in need. 2012 is already being called the best potential QB draft in more than a decade which is great for us. The more teams go for the QB's - the more SS and FS talent will be around for the taking. We could literally rebuild our entire DB in the off season if we cannot fix it sooner.

I believe that Sparano must go, and will go as soon as Ross finds a suitable replacement. he only made that public statement to calm the waters so the players didn't get further distracted and disenfranchised. There are three reasons for this; 1) regardless of his coaching ability the team no longer believes in him. 2) this is a business and tickets sales and merchandising are suffering too much 3) the new "Culture" that Ireland smugly said was coming to Miami in 2008 never arrived. Tuna, Ireland and Sparano have turned the greatest and most heralded franchise in pro sports in history into a punchline and until all three are gone and replaced with real professionals (not wanna bees who have never been in that position before) this will not work.

The new culture that we heard so much about back a few years ago was a failed experiment of wannabees lacking in experience. Tuna wanted to run his own team, he had no experience - he failed and left. Sparano, who is nothing more than a glorified offensive line coach, wanted to be a head coach (forfeiting any / all experience at head coach or even offensive coordinator) is failing. Ireland is a wannabee GM who is a glorified NFL talent scout is mediocre and the best argument for him staying should be carefully considered. Huizenga must have been a total and complete idiot to hire these guys in the first place with no experience and throw millions of dollars at them. I don't know how Tuna even dares show his face in public after the mess that he got us into and left us with. That guy must have some set of balls on him.

No one goes from riding a tricycle a motorcycle overnight it just doesn't work that way. Ross needs to sweep the place clean, fire all of them, and start over with people who know what they are doing and have a track record of actually doing it. "Fixable" - yes. how deeply and how quickly are subjects for great debate.
