Hopefully one of our amazing LBs. Nate Jones the great one has returned. Soon to come will be the illustrious Renaldo Hill. The ghost of 2008 lives on.
hmm... another DE.... Merling go bye bye??? or is McDaniel going to be out an extended period of time due to the hand injury?
Nate Jones is a fairly decent player to have around. Could be worse. Calvin Jackson.... Arturo Freeman...
Would not think Merling, Baker makes sense, and we also have to add an PS DT/NT type of player if we lost Frank Kearse
Olshansky is a Ukrainian name? Cool, it sounded Irish and Polish to me so I was not sure. Good run stuffing DE, was slated to make 3 million in Dallas and would not take the pay cut.
I remember his draft year , buzz about him being a Russian jew , who was/is unbelievably strong as I recall.
Well, the spelling with the sky on the end rather than ski would make it more likely Czech or Slovak than Polish. Slovakia borders Ukraine, so why wouldn't you see similar names in both countries?
Ukrainian Jew, but what's the difference really? Russian or Ukrainian Jew would be mainly be Ashkenazi Jews.
No V's and it does not end in an I, like Kryzewski or Dombrowski, Sky with an Ol' in front of it is an odd combination Mr C.
Winnipeg has lots of people of that ancestry here. A lot of Ukranian's , but during his draft , I think the national American media found it a better blurb to say he was a Russian football player. He's played well in the past , thought he was a good player for SD , haven't paid attention the last couple of years though.
Problem is, we have no MLB any longer if Dansby is out, would not surprise me to see Koa play some ILB though.
He is a better all around player than Sapp. So it was a mystery to me why we made no attempt to resign him, then had to trade for Sapp in training camp. More reliable tackler. We are going to like that. Less likely to see him bounce of a dude like Aaron Hernandez the way Sapp did. That to me, that he didn't wrap up on that play was more pathetic than the 99 yd TD, because that was as much or more R. Jones fault
I'm not saying so much as in this week but more so around the bye week. Could this work: LE- Langford, Olshanksy NT- Soliai, McDaniel UT- Starks, Odrick JACK- Wake, Taylor SOLB- Dansby SILB (MLB)- Burnett WLB- Mitchell It's the old 4-3 hybrid alignment.
Other thing is, he is a good STer as well, if Will Allen is going to play for VD, we will need someone on the unit as VD played ST's as well. Eegads I just hope Reshad "Lost" Jones does not start, I heard CC is back in battery though.
Really? I do not recall him being much of a penetrating type of DE, I do recall he was a solid player but more of a traditional 3-4 DE type, 2 gap, read and react type?
Mitchell has experience at 4-3 MLB. He did well there in NO when called upon, albeit played sparingly.
The LBs could be messed around with switching up what you want them to do. Olshansky is more of a NT at DE which is perfect behind Langford.
well, Mike Krzyzewski is of Polish descent. Brandon and Dave Dombrowski are most likely too. I guess neither you or I have spent a lot of time in Ukraine but if we did, I don't think we'd find Olshansky to be an unusual name.
Hey, Hill was a smart solid FS for us in 2008. It was a big mistake to let him walk and then throw huge money at Gibril Wilson, who ain't half the player from a cerebral standpoint.
I think one of the problems we're seeing on defense is that the left side of the DL is getting washed out. Starks is not a great two-gap DE. Burnett is not someone that should be asked to do what Channing Crowder did last season. These guys are effective when they're in their correct positions.
I think you are spot on, Omark mentioned Starks was limping, and with McD out, that leaves Baker and Merling, and Phil is not a bad player, but you'd better add someone who can deal with run heavy teams ie, Olshansky. With Kearse signing in Carolina, and Starks dinged, and McD an unknown, we are paper thin at NT, which is another check mark in Igor's reasons to sign him column.
