Eh, he was toasted most of the night, not just on the Welker play.

Moving up the food chain though, if folks recall Walden was cut prior to Bonamego being fired, have to wonder if Todd Bowles is squarely on the hot seat as well.

PETE stop taking everything literally lol. Maybe I should have said the vast majority seem to be blaming Sapp for Welkers 99 catch and run.

    Check the Reshad Jones thread.

Hopefully with Clemons in, we'll at least have better coverage. I wonder if they give Wilson a look. I also can't think of any expendable DB's around the league atm.

Sapp was at fault, but hardly even the vast majority likely solely blame Sapp.

Was he REALLY that much worse than the rest of the defense? Or is he just being "offered up"?

Ireland would not do that, its another dagger at his drafting ability. Those men he drafted will be protected.

If your theory was true, then why would he waive Edds instead of Ike or Trusnik? Edds could have done the same as Trusnik did last night. Our ST demon with 2 holding calls on returns. How much yardage did he cost us?

I agree. IMO, Sapp was made a scapegoat of, since Carroll and Jones also sucked about equally. One could make a case for any of the 3 being the sacrificial lamb, but apparently they drew straws and Sapp drew the short straw. Good thing for him, Ireland isn't as ruthless as Al Swearengen when it comes to who draws the short straw. :shifty:

He wasn't totally to blame for the 99 yarder. Part of those yards should be given to Jones.

Bowles ain't going anywhere till Sparano does. I'd bet that for certain. You ain't gonna leave Joe Danna to coach DBs all by his lonesome.

Cut Jason allen after he gives up the TD to Edwards. Fire Special Teams coach after patriots fiasco. Cut Benny Sapp after he gives up Welker TD. Seems like they are finding scape goats to take the blame.

If we were to cut him, should have been before the season. Why cut a guy who's salary is guaranteed when you have depth issues, even if he did get burned badly?

I don't think he's a starting-caliber player, obviously, but he was a victim of the same poor conditioning everyone else had. Bench him for a few games, let him get his fitness up, and he could have returned in rotational spot duty. Like others, I wish our FO led by example and fired themselves for poor performances.

You have to think cutting Benny Sapp after Monday Night's performance hurts morale in the lockerroom.

This move doesn't surprise me in the least. He played terrible against the Patriots. My only question is, what do Sparano and Ireland see in Nolan Carroll, that keeps him on the team. He may run fast but he is completely lost when it comes to playing defensive back in the NFL. Every time he was shown on TV in replays, after Brady completed another pass on him, he looked like a deer caught in a cars headlights.

I guess Ireland and Sparano just don't want to admit they blew another draft choice.

FWIW he was a 6th rounder, so I doubt it's about saving face.

Cut Benny and keep Nolan Carroll?????!!!!!! Nolan Carroll should have been cut before he got into the locker room. Maybe I'm missing something. I'm not a coach but from what I saw...

Unfortunately Benny was made an example of, the FO had to prove to the secondary that people will lose their jobs if the play is that bad.

So exactly how is this move going to improve the play of Carroll? He has never shown that he could cover a receiver since he came into the NFL. I doubt that cutting Sapp is suddenly going to make Carroll a better player. Sapp was probably cut because he played lousy against the Patriots and he has a larger contract than Carroll. As far as Carroll is concerned, I don't care how little he is earning compared to Sapp. The fact is that he is not a player who has improved from last year and he adds nothing to the team. The fact he is still a member of the Dolphins shows how ineffective Ireland and Sparano have been in improving the talent on the roster.

I don't think any of the defense was ready for that game, DL, LBs and DBs and it makes you wonder about the Dolphins conditioning program. I thought I saw Brady having a cup of coffee and a donut in the pocket during one of their plays. In years past it would have been the opposing defense sucking air and sweating buckets.

Dolphins had six weeks to get in shape, the rest they had on their own.

One thing to consider is that week one broke the record for most passing yards ever in the first week. I know the Dolphins were extra *#$#%y, however pass defenses were pretty #$#$$y last week and Miami went against one of the best.

Not sure why everyone is questioning not cutting Carroll. If you look at one game I guess you would, but that would be the dumbest thing you can do in a personell stand point. The overall picture is what you have to look at, Carroll is cheaper, younger with more potential, why would you keep Sapp over him

FWIW, Carroll was a 5th rounder, 145th overall, the Ted Ginn pick as I recall.
