These TE's are destroying us. Carroll is terrible, our Safeties are not making plays. Some of us have been banging that "playmaking safety" drum for awhile, but it remains one of those spots we are content to throw late round choices and lesser players at.
Call up Will Allen, sign him up now that his contract won't be guaranteed for the year just in case. Either that, or find someone out there. There's got to be someone better then Benny Sapp and Carroll out there.
the d overall looks pretty bad,,, but,,, we are facing possibley the best offense in the league, they were last season. gotta believe they'll be at least top 5 without serious injuries, heck they lost their starting center tonite and haven't missed a beat. but our d is getting whooped, handled, trounced, no way around it they are getting slapped tonite.
brady will make any d look bad if he can just stand there and sling it, he hasn't been under pressure at all tonite.
That is seriously not the problem. The Secondary is getting burned, missing tackles, and assignments. Its awful and painful to watch.
I love how we just assume that Will Allen is a better fit. He's yet to be picked up by any team. In a position, where teams are always scraping the bottom of the barrel for help.
I'm not sure if Will Allen is the answer. I'm not sure there will be an answer this year. I can easily see us spending our first rounder on a CB or S in the draft if Henne does ok this season and we don't go for QB.
If you don't get pressure on Brady he'll carve your defense to shreds. It's never been any different.
That is certainly true, but we getting beat and burnt in situations where that doesn't apply. Quick snaps, quick reads. Our DBs half the time seem to not be within 5 yards of these guys.
Will Allen has experience in this defense that is HUGE. He can't be worse than Carrol or Sapp. Carrol is awful not sure how he made the team.
I don't think Allen would do worse than Carroll (Sapp has been up and down today), but I am not sure how reliable he may be.
yeah the secondary is not great but its a team game. great coverage can make a lack of pass rush look ok. great pass rush can compensate for lousy coverage. tonite we have not been very good at either, plus the bad tackles and assignments, and on and on, put one of the best offenses in the league and viola instant debacle,,,,, and i don't use that word lightly. we have been seriously outplayed by the pats offense tonite. man brady just had another 60 yard td dropped
I know it's Brady..but we can't keep making excuses. The Texans have an explosive offense as well, and that game is going to be even hotter. Defense needs to get it together fast. There's a very high chance that the Bills (playing Raiders), Pats and Jets (playing Jags) will all be 2-0 next week. Falling to 0-2 behind all three would suck.
Vontae has not looked all that impressive today. To be frank, no DB really has. We debated all offseason about Safety and passrush. We made no moves to upgrade either one (Taylor? Really?) and it's biting us in the ***.
jones just took a rancid angle for the 99.5 yard td pass,,, got sucked up and in, why i have no idea, and then just cut due rt. in time to watch the ball go by him, sadness.
If anyone is willing to give up a ham sandwich in exchange for Nolan Carroll, Jeff Ireland should listen. Reshad Jones is brutal. How did he beat out Chris Clemons? I liked Vontae better before he started reading his own press clippings.
This is why I wanted Nnamdi with Vontae moved to nickel. That's it. All I have to say. Too bad we were over the cap room to pursue something like that. Wait, never mind.
I know some fans will say it was because we played Brady and the Pats. Problem is, that was the most yards Brady has EVER thrown for. Not even the 1-15 2007 Dolphins defense looked that bad against the 18-1 Patriots. Let that one sink in for a moment. And the great Dolphin defenses from 2000-2003 were able to give the Super Bowl Patriots big fits. This defense needs to get their act together or the Texans will do the exact same thing. They were watching.
The thing is we are supposed to give the other team cramps. JT, SS and VD all left the game with cramps. Reshard Joneshad a horrible game in coverage. Conditioning was a huge isssue.
The entire defense was terrible tonight. The defensive line applied no pressure. There were a couple of times Brady dropped back to pass that he could have made a phone call and still have time to complete the pass. I thought that the play against the run of the Patriots was also bad tonight. Even though Brady passed on most downs, when the Patriots did run the ball, they had far more success than the Dolphins run offense did. The defensive line looked tired early in the game and never appeared to really come off the ball. Wake was totally outplayed by the rookie tackle of the Patriots, except on the one sack he had. Burnett was suppose to be an upgrade over Crowder in regards to covering TE's. He certainly did not show me anything tonight and I do not think he is as strong against the run as Crowder was, As far as the defensive backs go. This group might just be the single worst unit in the NFL. Davis and Smith both are overrated and their conditioning appears to be a definite weakness, since they both had to leave the game to recover from heat cramps. The safeties played terrible and if Jones remains the starter, I see him giving up a number of long passes during the season. I blame Sparano for the fact that Carroll was even in the game tonight. He kept Carroll and cut Allen, even though Carroll played terrible during the preseason. While the offense took several steps forward tonight. The defense definitely took a giant step backwards. Prior to this game I predicted the Dolphins would finish no better than third in the AFC-East and might even finish last in the division. Unfortunately, even with the play of the Dolphins offense tonight, I still don't see the Dolphins being able to finish ahead of the Patriots or Jets. If the defense doesn't get its act together fast, I also don't see the Dolphins finishing ahead of the Bills.
We had zero chance of signing Nnamdi. None whatsoever. He was set on Philly from the beginning, as was revealed a couple of weeks ago. But we could absolutely have signed Josh Wilson, Jonathan Joseph, or Carlos Rogers. And we should have targeted Quintin Mikell, Eric Weddle, or Dawan Landry. I hate to sound like a broken record about those six names, but there was ample DB talent out there and we completely whiffed.
Heck, my three year old grandson could have done as good a job covering the Patriot receivers as Carroll did. Carroll should never have made this roster and hopefully the Dolphins will sign Allen and cut Carroll, as they should have done during the preseason. I also question exactly what you mean when you write about Allen being a FIT for this team. Based on what I saw tonight. The players they have now in the secondary, which fit their scheme, appear to be players who have no idea how to prevent a completed pass. So I certainly hope that if the Dolphins resign Allen, he does not fit the scheme and he actually prevents completions.
They better sign Will Allen ASAP. And he knows our defense, so he could possibly come in and make an impact. They better not be stubborn with this. Give him a shot...can't get any worse than it did tonight! (because it would be another NFL record...)
We have a bunch of haircuts that pass for DBs, and I don't see it changing anytime soon. These guys are nothing if not stubborn.
It's about time they move on to another coaching staff. There are plenty of talent evaluators out there that can do a better job. I would give Phil Savage a call or heck anybody from the Baltimore front office. They make the right moves adding Lee Evans for nothing (can you imagine Henne if he actually had a guy like that instead of Hartline), make the obvious move to sign McKinnie. The **** is Ireland doing half the damn time I don't even know. He drafts somewhat well but aside from that he's an idiot.
IMO players got all fat and happy during the lockout. They think there **** dont stink. Very few players ever become elite, or take it serious enough to be the best ever. Thats why they have offseason programs because millionaire athletes are just as lazy as all of us lol. All weekend defenses got ran over. Having less padded practices will not help. It will week 4 before we see a elite defense unless your the ravens, they take it serious that'ss why they are always elite. The owners got the shaft this offseason, these guys are jokes. Look around the league injuries piling up and poor conditioned athletes. It may seem like there the same but look how most teams are going through this. The offense dictates the pace so defenses are on the losing end. Just to note while our secondary was brutalized we put up almost 500 yards of offense also. NE D sucks just as much as ours. We can blame the no huddle but its been in the league for decades no excuse but the players im. If you gonna ask for concessions in a contract that will lower your conditioning then you owe it to fans to do it yourself RANT I KNOW LOL
