JasonLaCanfora Jason La Canfora Dolphins are re-signing RB Larry Johnson. Makes you wonder how ready their rookie draft pick is to get carries and pass protect
could just be a simple matter of insuring depth. LJ played okay enough in preseason game that another team could sign him after an injury.
I like the move to be honest. It can't hurt. I still don't think LJ will take carries away from DT unless we're in the red zone, but that is purely speculation on my part.
I'm completely indifferent on the move, but what the hell happened to change their minds from a few days ago until now? Why not wait and sign him until after the first game so they wouldn't have to guarantee his entire salary?
He shouldn't have been cut in the first place. He's the only back on the roster who can do ANYTHING in short-yardage situations.
Maybe with Clay unlikely to play (since he missed a Wed practice) they know Lex will get more FB reps so they need someone else to fill in at HB.
I expected them to bring him back and I have no problem keeping him until he shows he can't get it done, but I thought that was going to happen after the 1st week too.
I really don't understand why, but I actaully am really happy about this. The RB corps is just very suspect in my mind. I think theres a good chance he will lead the team in rush TDs
why is it any move the Dolphins make has to have some secretive meaning? Cant we just resign him for depth? why is this any indication on Thomas? We all knew we were most likely going to bring on another RB... maybe the Dolphins cut him for the initial wheeling and dealing going on knowing they most likely would be able to get him back anytime, being they were the only team to even bring him in... Pats bring on Edds, does that mean Spikes is on the outs?????? how about its just another bottom of the roster pickup?
Agreed, happy to see him back. Thought he looked more than serviceable in preseason and the depth cant hurt. Nothing more to it - just a good move. Chances are if there was anything "sneaky" about letting him go in the first place, it was something to do with keeping other players on or saving a few bucks. Don't have a problem with that even in that case.
I thought that was true if the player was on the roster for week 1 games. I'm probably wrong, but I thought that was the rule.
This would make me feel much better about the RB depth. I thought they shouldn't have cut him in the first place.
Mystifying. These mother****ers don't know WHAT they're doing. They change their minds every time they take a **** on decisions they have already made with the best information they had at hand. If Larry Johnson wasn't good enough to make the final cut a few days ago, what happened from then to now? Did Johnson go and tear it up for a few games in some super-secret developmental league the meathead brain trust have set up in Kurdistan or somewhere just as obscure? And why Johnson, a guy who hasn't played well since THE PREVIOUS PRESIDENCY? Didn't any other team release ONE guy who has played in this decade, who is better than Johnson? Really? 800 cuts and NO ONE? Bad decisions, poor player evaluation, tunnel vision...all of those characterize these morons' reign in Miami.
I'm assuming he won't sign until after tonight. That would be the first game and his contract wouldn't be guaranteed (as you mentioned).
That's an interesting point. I assumed that it was after their own first game, but maybe it isn't. Back when I was involved, there was no Thursday kickoff to the season so it was never a factor.
Ironic in the fact that you don't even understand why they would do this. It's all about the contract not the player.
Maybe Clay had another setback (possible) which caused him to miss another practice (true), and if he misses the game we'd be quite thin at HB (true). Just because you don't agree with a move, doesn't mean things haven't changed between then and now that have altered the situation. I know it's tons of fun to call them mother ****ers, morons, and meatheads though and complain that they don't know what they're doing without even knowing the thought process or reasoning behind decisions though.
I believe it's after week 1 is complete, not after just one game is complete that his contract wouldn't be guaranteed. I could be wrong, but that was always my impression.
LOL obviously it is to you. You do realize the parameters of this right? Laconforna said "are re-signing" him. Not "have signed him". His contract won't be guaranteed. Good move from those "morons" imo.
Yea, we better hide the news from MrClean that John Jerry is still on the team. I wish I knew their rationale behind that one.
I like this move. I think that Clay may be redshirted to IR for this to happen, since they've probably shored up the TE position and are seemingly happy with Lex as the FB option (after viewing DJs youtube clip).
All of you are wrong. Clearly none of you have been paying attention. When Huzeinga had the team, Ross was the puppet master, guiding Wayne to hire Jimmy Johnson. He knew Johson's mom was going to die and the humidity in SoFL would wreak havoc on Jimmy's hair, which would ultimately suck his passion for running a team, in turn, guaranteeing Wannstoop would wreck the franchise. This set in motion a chain of coaching hires that would lead Wayne to practically giving the team to Ross. Once Ross took full control, he put into place our current FO and did things along the way to further destroy all credibility. Little things that could never be traced back to him. According to my sources, after one player interview, the player was walking down the hall to go to his car, when Ross passed him and said, "Hey did that ginger call your mom a whore? I'm pretty sure he did." Or another time, when he was meeting with a potential coaching hire on the West Coast, where in the middle of the negotiations, he said, "I'm going to write down a number and if its the one your looking for, let's do this deal", and when he handed the paper to the the former marginal player turned coach, the paper just had a crudely drawn picture of a cat humping a dog. Hell, he even wore a fake mustache and started booing during a training camp practice. Now, you may ask why is Ross doing all this? The answer is simple. He loves the Marlins.
I have an opinion about the topic. I think it's a reasonable move if Clay will miss the game. It must've been missed because I didn't use a bunch of unnecessary capital letters, name calling, and rantiness though. I'll try and do better in the future.
I think the resigning of Johnson shows that the Dolphins are not that happy with Thomas. He may just end up being another wasted high draft pick by Ireland and his personnel staff.
