http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports...os-lighter-touch-means-more-wins-1818248.html Well, it worked in NY when Coughlin backed off of his guys after earning a rep for brutal training camps and personal fitness schedules, remains to be seen if it will work for Sparano, I think he can't hurt as this is essentially a young, veteran team who should know what they need to do to prepare by now, unlike in 08-09 when we were a young team with lots of new faces and careers who had to be taught. As for Williams' comment, funny thing is Sparano wins more then Saban did, if you are going to reference someone there Ricky, make sure they have some quality that surpasses the guy you are giving the slight to...
3 guys over 30 years old, JT, Bell, Sapp, we have a very very young football team...is that it?,3 freakin guys over 30...wow.. edit)...Columbo 32
Another situation was St. Louis before the 1999 season. At 9-23, Dick Vermeil was on the verge of a player revolt before he switched the style up. He also went out and got Marshall Faulk and Torry Holt. Oh, and he hired a first-time OC named Mike Martz, who better utilized players skill sets and helped turn Kurt Warner into a beast.
Eli Manning was also a much maligned TO machine and thought to be holding the Giants back Kevin Gilbride took over the OC duties in the final game in 06, then in 07, we know what happened.
Well, to be fair, Eli was also a turnover machine in 2007, throwing 20 INTs (that led the NFL). He just managed to led New York to six comeback or game winning drives that year, which is a pretty amazing number for any quarterback and twice as many as Eli's had in any other year of his career. It was Eli's ability to deliver in the clutch, not some first year transformation in a new offense, that made the Giants Super Bowl champions.
That's a pretty interesting comparison. Maybe Sparano will realize this season that he's not coaching in the 80s.
Its been a while since you had to correct me huh?...lol....bastard, can't let 1 letter slip, lol..such a high standard you have set..
Which is a huge switch for Sparano as well, no more of the "right 53" stuff, who is this Sparano anyway?
So...Sparano allegedly has fixed the very issues in his behavior that Ricky criticized...but somehow Ricky was wrong to "slight" Coach Meathead?
Knew something was up when Reggie said the environment is more lax and fun around here than it was in N.O. since that's never been said before about how it goes here.
Yup. The roster moves are puzzling but impressive. Really look to be going after the best 53 available.
Saban is a good football coach, he's just too much of an egomaniac to be anything other than a big fish in a little pond [college] so he left. And he needs to be in charge of kids that he can dominate. With a GM to obtain talent for him and an ego in check Saban could have been a hell of an NFL coach. Kudos to Ricky for saying what obviously needed to be said. For saying what we all suspected was true.
15 wins in 2 yrs though? Bad allusion M979, to me anyway. I think so, most forget that JT in a interview around that time said pretty much the same things without the allusion to Saban. Let me add, I'm really happy about the season starting, so much blah blah blah this offseason when the proof, all along, will be out on the field not in some BSPN studio or what have you, if Sparano goes down in flames, that is how it goes, to me Ross did the right thing by keeping him, if Sparano succeeds this yr, all the better. I do not buy into suck for luck, do think that for a change, if there is one season to be a bad team, this would be it I also think that won't happen. Team speed and experience is just to solid for it to happen, we dumped: -Crowder -Allen -Polite Replaced them with: -Burnett -Carroll or Wilson -Clay Allen has not played in 2 yrs anyway, Crowder was the go to go for opposing offense when they passed the ball, and Clay is more multi talented then Lou.
I could care less about Williams or Saban. Those clowns are gone. I only care about Sparano. Whether or not Sparano has 'had a revelation' or 'been forced to change by Ross' is immaterial. What's important is that he's changed, so far. One of the changes was a departure of the Henning play-not-to-lose mentality to an offense more aggressive and imaginative. Daboll seems to follow the "adapt your offense to the players you have" concept instead of the "my way or the highway" mantra. This is welcomed to the fanbase as well as the players, based on some of their comments. Let's all keep in mind two things... 1) this has been the PS and starting now it counts and 2) you can say that you can teach an old dog new tricks or you can say that a leopard never changes his spots...who's right ?? Talk to me in February...
Very good point. Eli was criticized though in a lot of the same ways Henne has been. The teams are very similar right down to their strengths and weaknesses though; strong DL and D's overall. Offense has weapons but QB play and OL thought to be a problem. Giants had more proven and experienced backs but otherwise not a whole lot of differences. Eli did come in to the league with a lot higher pedigree and higher expectations though to be fair. Hopefully things turn out just as well for us as they did for the NYG that year Not sure that is fair to say about a college coach that they need to be in charge of kids they can dominate. College coaching and pro coaching are apples and oranges especially in the personnel department. While Saban is a scumbag for the way he left he isnt the first nor will he be the last coach to be better at coaching college and recruiting then at building a pro team and try to adapt to the pro style. I think that is why they're correcting you DJ, cause its you. By the way, it's ya'll.
I'm not saying that about A college coach, I'm saying that about Nick Saban. It's not something I would say about for example, Lou Holtz.
I always thought it was y'all, since it's a contraction for "you all." Wikipedia agrees, and even redirects if you put in ya'll. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y'all
