I agree Larry those three seem to be more of a comfort at this point.

The Patriots would put him on IR. They look for any excuse to put a guy on IR. They consider it the same as a redshirt. They've even been caught in the past having guys on IR practice with the team. This is one of the many sneaky things the Pats have done over the last decade that have helped make them so good, IMO.

I also believe that our third RB isn't on this roster.

The Giants seem desperate for help at cornerback. I'd trade Will Allen to them for Da'Rel Scott. Scott wasn't a favorite of mine at RB but when a guy has a 97 yard run and then follows it up with like a 64 yard run in one preseason, you better pay attention!

Wallace was active for 12 games, too much to go on PS. Moore was active for 9, and that is the cut off, but I do not recall if it is 9 or less games means still eligible for PS or 9 games or more means you are not.

Yup, Feinga is my 8th OL rather than Berger. Now though, with Murtha having a toe injury, do we keep 9 OL?

The Thuggee injured his toe? Had not heard that Mr C.

And I've liked Feinga, as I've pointed that is one tough, hungry dude, hopefully he is Garner pt II

Darn, that is Murtha's largest problem, he just doesn't stay healthy, it is always something with him.

    And let me add:

-I thought Jared Odrick played really well for us this preseason, better then he did last yr iirc, Edds played well as well.

I agree on finding a way to put Clay on IR ... we've done it before as well, as it doesn't seem like he's ready to contribute this year.

At WR, to me the choice is between Livas and Wallace - unless they decide to make a move with Hartline.

I have to believe the plan all along was to move Murtha over to RT if Long was good to go, but i guess we'll see about his toe and what Fat Tony thinks.

The next 48 hours will be interesting ... as even though tomorrow is cut day - we will not cut Allen, Merling, etc .... so trades will likely still happen after the dealine when teams see that we won't give them away.

a dude like Mastrud or Epps might be on the roster on SAT, but might not be on SUN .... same for Berger, Colombo or Carey .... or even Larry Johnson .... as i think we will continue to look for improvement at TE, RG/RT, and RB.

i see no chance that guys like Kearse, Livas or Spears make it to the PS ....

Some observations. I watched a rough cut of the last 10 minutes of the game, in order to see some guys like Quinton Spears, Phil Livas, etc.

    1. Quinton Spears is a bit of a one-trick pony with that inside move, but it's a good trick. He shows good quickness and nice hands on the inside move. He's also got the athleticism to loop inside on the stunt and be hard for OLs to pick up. But that's about all he's got right now. He shows small flashes of outside rush and some bull rush but nothing really effective yet, and he's got to come off the ball better.

    2. That 15 yard catch by Livas was nice. It wasn't really special but he looked like a starter, had a starter's feet and quickness on the play. That's a good thing in its own way. But it's not like you see the play, drop your coffee on the floor, and realize Verbal Kent is Keyser Söze.

    3. However, one play that goes unnoticed or at least relatively untalked about is the play just before that drive on the punt return when Ladouceur (I really want to pronounce that in my head like "la-douche-er") lobs his punt only 31 yards and Livas has to sprint 20 yards to make the fair catch. What a play. That's as good as a 10 to 15 yard punt return. His decision-making and dependability have stood out just as much this preseason as his combination of speed and stride length, his acceleration, and that punt return TD. He should absolutely make this team.

    4. Could it be that Mark Restelli should make this team too? I guess I just didn't realize how BIG the dude is, at 6'2" and 222 lbs when he came out of college. On that final play where he accidentally injured Ramon Radway, he just DOMINATED the ball in the air with his size, his ups and his aggressiveness to the ball. NFL Draft Scout has no record of any workout numbers on him but there's a YouTube of a 6.54 cone drill, a 3.95 short shuttle, and rumor of him being between 4.4 and 4.5 in the speed department. He had an interception earlier this preseason, didn't he? I could swear he did. I'm not a big fan of Culver anymore. I was once, but the guy just stopped getting better. He had an interception last night gifted to him by Will Allen. Restelli is more of a true Strong Safety backup than Reshad Jones, IMO. I'm actually going to have to run through all four preseason games again to take a look at him. I'd already pegged him for the practice squad but now I think he could be more than that.

I totally agree, but it's Verbal Kint, not Kent, and Ladouceur is their LS not punter. That is Chris Jones. Restelli may be a good one to keep at least to the PS. Good points you make about him.

Aren't most rookie pass rushers kind of one trick ponies? We better keep Spears!!!

No chance that Pat Devlin will make it through waivers. Too many poor and average #2 and #3 QBs in this league. He was top UDFA....at one time was projected to go in draft in 2nd round. He is solid, has an outstanding resume, and great potential. I guarantee he will never last through waivers. Why would you want to put him on Practice Squad anyway? Must keep him.

    Some are no-trick ponies. :)

My bad on Ladouceur. Just kept seeing his name on the gamebook.

And damn, about Kint. At least I got Keyser Söze's spelling right...even the little umlaut.

Not sure if that ruling hasn't changed ? CFL players that are cut that is , I don't know if they can be signed to practice squads this year or not. I know they tweaked the rules , the CFL / NFL agreement about that.

BTW , on the TD by Moore who was he pointing at on the sidelines? was that Daboll?

I was thinking that maybe the difference between Restelli and Culver is one is a league minimum type and the other a 4 or 5 yr vet, if the performance is not that different then it would not surprise me at all if Restelli made the team over Culver

And an aside, my boi fmr CFL sack leader Phil Hunt has been tearing it up for the eagles, he has 3 sacks in the preseason and will make the team, or should.

John chick was on the Colts PS in 2010, and supposedly has asked to be waived, the Riders also are probably going to get Fantuz back as well as he was waived

As I recall players used to be able to be placed on the PS but I kind of thought they tweaked that so players had to be on active rosters this year? I know they made some changes for next year but entirely sure what those are , or if they apply this year.

I don't see Restelli being affected though , I think he is cut outright .

We'll see, things were changed but I thought it was going to go into full effect after 2012?

Would not surprise, he does have a good path to a roster slot though, Culver took a paycut, but Alexander or whomever that was who lasted days is already cut, but still Restelli is 300k cheaper and Irish does run a tight financial ship so to speak

Game is on , going to pay attention to a few players and he is one. Culver got himself in a mess of players on that big screen on the first Dallas drive and while he got the int he looked out of position.

On a side note , Miami was and wants to become again a glamour NFL franchise , looking at the telecast , virtually no fans , infield dirt , just a shame. I know the field is getting changed but for an image conscious franchise and owner they need to realize how much they need to do to get back to where they want to be , imo.

Cure for that is winning more often D22, people need to realize our overall record was 7-9, our home record was 1-7, so to fans who go to the home games, we were a bad football team that on the surface, only added Reggie Bush.

Understood , however I would have rebated the season ticket holders for the pre season games and done a ton of promotions to get butts in the seats . This franchise has had a hard time time thinking long term in many ways , and unfortunately though not surprisingly we are seeing the results.

Though there have been some forward steps.

The promotions deal is what led to the Gators thing, which is not a bad promo, but in this environment I suspect the only cure is winning games D22, we are not even getting the bump from positive reviews of our chances this season by talking head NFL media types.

On the first Dallas drive, one of the last few plays before the int, there is -1 yd run by Murray, and nfl.com says tackle was by Carroll on their play by play, but Fin Nasty noticed and I agree, the tackler does not appear to have dreds. Of course the Dallas announcers are no help whatsoever. I guess you will be seeing the Dallas feed and that is most poorly announced game I can ever recall. Anyway, see if you think it is Carroll or Culver instead. I didn't think nfl.com often gets those things wrong.

It's the home crew ... The play you are mentioning ( I think ) 1st and goal and Murray loses a yard , MCD gets penetration , reaches for and gets an arm on Murray in the backfield , twisting him sideways , then Culver (pretty pretty pretty sure ) quickly fills along with Spitler and others .

That play was MCD and then really nice fill by Culver.

  34. dolfan22

Yes , whole game , sometimes it has been split into halves other years.

Griese even gave his QB rating for Henne , for last year and for this year so far , 7 or 8 categories.

So much better than listening to the Dallas crew.

Do you know if NFLN may replay it a 2nd time? Sometimes they do more than 1 replay.

edit: never mind. I thought, duh, why not check their schedule on nfl.com and it is aired again Sunday 4pm Eastern

If the Miami crew is indeed better than the Dallas crew... well then that says a LOT about the Dallas crew.

  37. MrClean

    MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member

I have heard a lot of crews from the opposition team city, and the Dallas crew is the worst by far that I ever heard in any preseason game ever ever ever. It was like 3 guys sitting in a living room with the game on TV, sometimes they'd comment on the game and sometimes they'd chat about whatever, while the game goes on in the background. when they did their sideline interviews, which I generally always hate, they'd get back to the game just as the ball was snapped, often not say who carried, caught the pass or made the tackle, especially if it were a Miami player. I'm watching Oakland feed now and when they do sideline interviews the put it in a small window off to the side and never take the game off the screen. The announcer would go back to the game, ask the interviewee to wait a sec because he had a play to call, call it properly, then go back to the interview. Much , much better quality all the way around.

I thought the "best" part about their telecast was when Babe was trying to do the telestrater. He'd be describing stuff in his own unique way and pretending that the telestrater was actually working when indeed it was not. Bob Griese passed out from drinking a 12er could do a better job.
