My guy is Jones...prefer the ball skills...would not shock me if Clemons keeps his job though. Voted Jones anyway.

Yeah, especially against New England. If Jones has a mistake to make, Brady and Co will find it.

Either way they'll both get a good amount of time unless one starts to excel quickly. Hope the coaches figure out the perfect situations to put them into. Maybe one gets better at their weakness as the season progresses.

i dont think they'll both get a lot of time... that safety spot is a big communication spot and helps keep the secondary organized... i dont think the coaches will keep flip flopping come the regular season... they'll pick a guy, and if hes ****ing up, they'll switch... but once they pick someone, i think thats the guy and the other one plays a backup role, and maybe in some specific packages, but the guy who's picked will be on the field a lot more...

I'm rooting for Jones, just like his game a little more...

    I'm thinking Chris Clemons too...
I still would like to see Reshad at the strong at some point to take over for bullfrog..

I also think we're going to be mixing a lot of different coverages to where they are both on the field at the same time.

i have and still believe that Chris will be the guy .... and that Jones will take over at SS at some point during the season. i'd like to see both on the field. i don't think we'd lose much if anything besides experience of course with swapping Bell.

I think it should always have been Chris Clemons. Reshad Jones just hasn't done enough to make me think twice about it. I'm surprised he's getting so much love. I didn't see it, but isn't he the guy that blew the angle last night that sprung Demarco Murray for that 50 or 60 yard screen?

I dont know CK. I could be wrong (barely remember it), but I think Jones originally was lined up in center field... and then began sliding to his left as soon as the ball was snapped (maybe covering deep left half responsibility?). The screen play was then to his right, and he was the one that chased it down...

I think Omar was the one that said that Jones took a bad angle which led to that big screen play.

I'm fairly sure it will be CC, granted he is not a turnover producing machine, however his consistency will make him the starter.

I'm pumped up the defense overall though, Nolan going into his second yr here, just 1 new starter, and the only real new face among the depth/role who will play a lot is JT.

Omar said it, there ya go. ;)

Jones saved a TD on that play. He also closed and stopped a reverse a little later on, for a minimal gain. Came from deep safety to near the los like shot from a rocket. Allen assisted on the play, they got there same time, but Jones came from farther away. Nice stop, I think on Ogletree.

Sometimes it was hard to see the numbers, and the Dall *** announcers were no help at all. They were more interested in blabbing about Babe Laufenberg's finger injury when he was a player or Irvin getting fired from Burger King as a kid for taking home the throw away burgers, to give to his 250 brothers and sisters. :(

You talking about the goalline stop just before the INT? I think that was Culver...

Me too. I'd consider pulling Bell in the dime for both Clemons and Jones, and have 4 corners with them. Maybe pull him in the nickel too. On obvious passing downs, Bell is a coverage liability IMO.

I don't get the love for Reshad Jones, personally. I think Clemons will grow into the position and he's exceeded my expectations last year so I think he can be a good starter in the NFL.

No, the reverse was more near mid field.

    I thought the stop near the goal line before the int was Culver too, but nfl.com says Carroll;

I didnt make it far enough into the game to see the reverse. Have the game on DVR. Stupid blackout...

I think Clemons can be a good starter too, but just see more upside with Jones. I know I like Jones a lot more now than I did Clemons a year ago. fwiw.
Interesting tidbit about Clemons, he appears to have taken Cobbs old job as the up back on the punt team. Been there all preseason. I do not think teams usually put a safety as punt team up back.

I watched the play. Omar was not wrong. He just made it seem like Reshad's bad angle created the play when that's not really true. Reshad was playing centerfield it looks like. He may have been a little slow to recognize the play based on when he came into it, but that's hard to tell. What you can see is by the time Murray reached the 45 to 50 yard lines, Jones has clearly taken a bad angle to the ball and now has to try and make up for it. He should have been able to engage Murray and get him down at the MIA 45 yard line based on positioning, if he'd taken the right angle, but he moved too aggressively to the ball and not where the ball was going, and as a result Murray got all the way to the MIA 20 yard line. I'd say Jones' bad angle cost about 20 extra yards on the play.

I am pretty positive it was Culver. I rewinded the play like 9 times trying to figure out who the hell it was. The player didnt have dreads so I know it wasnt Carroll...

Mind you I'm not saying Chris Clemons would have done better on that screen play. Clemons is notorious for doing the exact opposite. He'll flatten out too conservatively in his angling, trying to arrive where the ball is going to be, and then he'll get caught in the open field with too perpendicular an angle, and get beaten easily in the open field.

I like both kids, but the edge has to go to Clemons. While Jones is the more instinctive player and in time can make more big plays, he'll also miss a few times and allow a big play for the other team, something you don't want from the last line of defense...On the other hand, while Clemons hasn't made big plays (a lot of pass breakups or INTs) he's a little faster and more athletic and is usually in the right place to make a play, even if he's lacking in actually making the BIG play... I can foresee them on the field together tho at some time. For some reason, I see Jones as a SS, not a FS...jmho, but that's what I see...

I feel like I've seen more big plays occur while Reshad Jones is on the field. I think it's important to get Jones into the field in situations that allow him to roam a little. It seems he's going to be the heir apparent to/when Yeremiah Bell breaks down.

Jones made some nice plays last year against Tennessee, but other than that one game, I haven't seen too many plays made by him in his other start(s)/significant playing time last year, or this preseason. If Chris Clemons can just come down with a few more balls, I think this would be a moot point on who starts.

BTW, I accidentally selected Reshad Jones. I'm tired as hell. Thought I selected Clemons.

he didn't take a good angle, but it didn't lead to the screen... it added about 10 yards to the end of it...

I agree. But I would put the figure more toward 20 yards than 10 yards.

I expect Clemons to win the job, but I see it as a temporary win. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones is the guy by the end of the year.

I had Clemons winning the battle from the get, but RJ has shown me some aggressiveness, tackling ability, and pursuit that encouraged me this preseason that its closer than I thought it would be.

Chris has got to go lower on some tackles.enough with tackiling above the waist all the time..

RJ just flashes like he might become a real good player soon..He's hungry..The play that he took a bit of the wrong angle on he sure did flash an extra gear there that I liked.

I'am Ok if The bullfrog goes down...I think we have our future back there
