http://espn.go.com/nfl/preview11/story/_/id/6898795/from-tom-brady-andy-dalton-espn-john-clayton-ranks-nfl-starting-qbs sorry, forgot link Where do they get this **** from?! Seriously, they type a paragraph with some reasonable explanation for everyone and then it gets to Henne.... "26. Chad Henne, Miami Dolphins Analysis: Henne's only hope is big seasons from Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush. Arrow is pointing: down" A one liner that states nothing on Henne's great preseason performances or on our new offense, just Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush needs to carry him! Also how is this team pointing down? We have the same people from last year but with added talent and experience, plus a reguvinated B Marsh and the addition of Reggie. Where is the love?! Im going to laugh when we take the league by storm and Henne wins us 10-11 games this season!
I saw that stupid thing last night. Frankly, I don't think a single one of their "analysts" have even seen the Dolphins this year.
Just the time of the season for the blowhards to throw crap at the wall and hope some sticks to justify their salaries next year.
inb4 "We haven't done anything yet", "It is pointing down", "Preseason doesn't matter" "Rah-rah crowd"
Yeah, I saw Bruschi and Herm the Sherm on NFLlive yesterday and they were doing a piece on which team has the worst QB situation or something. Bruschi said we have the 2nd or 3rd worse situation in the league and Herm the Sherm said we had the worse situation. What a surprise coming from one guy whom played for one of arch rivals in the division and another whom coached for one of arch rivals in the division.
There are quite a few teams with bad QB situations; Seattle, San Fran and Washington immediately jump out as having worse to me both long and short term. Short term I would expect teams like Carolina to suffer through growing pains. However, until Henne proves he can consistently play in the regular season the type of games he played against Carolina and Tampa, then we should not expect people to be falling over to praise him. He has shown some positive signs for sure, that should give us at least some optimism, but if he comes out and drops back to 2009 levels again we absolutely will have one of the worst QB situations in the league. At this point, they are just guessing based on last season more than anything.
I see this and almost every national article or opinion as coming from people who have seen less of the Dolphins than I have.
I don't understand why people do not put Sanchez with the bad QB also, the guy in my book hes probably the worst, he did show nothing to warrant a positive review...
It's even worse than just 4-5 wins. On Sitius NFL Radio the other day, they were talking about us being in the "Andrew Luck Sweepstakes"... SMH....
Who cares? Nobody is going to change their opinion based on one very good pre season performance. The Dolphins will get respect when they earn it.
I agree this team has to earn the respect back. If what Henne has done in the preseason is not a mirage, these bozo's will change their tune fast enough. I have said it before, Qb is not my biggest concern now. Clearly the offensive line, particularily the right side, has that distinction.
B/c the Jets were successful and most people lack the eye for talent to separate QB talent from the team's success.
The Sanchez story still has to be fully written , but he does win and certainly appears to have the "it" factor , though I hate to admit that. All the media Jet fans say he will step up , become the best player on the team this year etc. etc , we'll see , but bottom line is winning and taking advantage when the opportunity is there to make a play that is the difference between winning and losing.
Certainly possible. But in order to be 3-2 we need to beat two of the Chargers/Pats and Jets. Tough order, particularly since I imagne there will be hiccups in the enw offense early.
I've been one of the few here who have consistently maintained that Sanchez had more upside potential than Henne. That being said, though, he hasn't actually played any better yet. So an objective evaluation that rated the QB and not just the team success would rate Sanchez and Henne in the same area.
Hope we are 3 and 2 after 5 games , looking at the schedule we will and should be dogs for NE , Houston , SD and NY . Not saying we won't or can't win any of those games but 3 and 2 would be really huge , even 2 and 3 would be ok if one win was a division game imo. Not that we should expect it , but 2 home games to pen the season and they are NE and Houston doesn't do us any favours. As I see it , it is time to FINALLY beat Houston , that game looms large for the way this season unfolds imo. Oh and btw , just spank the Yets , if we did that and were 3 and 2 as you mention , then all sorts of positive things start influencing this team as I see it.
I know you have and while I agree with your last sentence, still the bottom line is winning when you have the opportunity to make a play(s) when it matters. Henne hasn't done that as well as Sanchez , yet. Henne hasn't had the support Sanchez has , either player wiser or more importantly in my eyes , coaching wise. Henne has really shown me things I want to see so far this year , so I am extremely anxious to see how or if that continues.
That...isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's a loss of objectivity that comes with total immersion in a team.
I think Henne has actually made as many plays. The difference in results has been the number of mistakes. And when I evaluate the QB's play I see that Sanchez actually made more mistakes, but was just fortunate. And that was despite his coaches doing a better job of not putting Sanchez in as many "no win" situations. That's what I mean about separating the QB play and the team success. If I'm evaluating the QB then I'm looking at how often he did the right or wrong thing. If I'm looking at team success then I'm evaluating something other than just the QB play.
That may be true, but why would any national media member be non-objective when it comes to the Dolphins? What do any of them care?
That was in response to a comment discussing their overall knowledge. I said that we have more knowledge here than the national media does and CK implied that here we're not objective. I believe that I am objective (and I know that I focus on it). I shouldn't have made the comparison to the national media there as it muddies the point. I simply feel that I have more info and am objective so my predictions and evaluations are based on more accurate information than the national media (or any media for that matter).
Oh I think the '72 team popping corks on nat'l tv is more annoying as the years go by. It's made it more and more fashionable to make fun of the Dolphins IMO.
I dont think the national media are supremely biased, I think they look at the team as a whole, the pereception nationally as well as amongst the fan base, last years successes and failures and individual performances and base their projections off of that and say they have to prove otherwise to change their opinions. Paper champions mean nothing. I have stopped caring about what they say about the phins, I onlyy care how the Phins perform which should not be influenced by perception but just by production. Simply put if teh Phins win, the tune will change, until then, it is opinion. It is up to the Dolphins to produce or they vindicate the projections.
this is why we need some former dolphins in the media especially at espn and why is it that there are no dolphin fans or former players that work for them?
I just watched the first quarter of the Atlanta/Pitt game. If Henne had played like Ryan, Henne would have been blasted on this board and by the media. There were missed opportunities, passes that hit the back shoulder of the crossing player, inaccurate passes, poor decisions, etc. And the thing is Ryan really didn't play that bad.
