I know Marino right now would be the obvious choice so im thinking of maybe choosing another player who you guys and gals would like from the past who can come in right now and make a difference.

Jason Taylor or Zach Thomas of a few years ago. Getting either one somewhere close to their prime goes a long way to cover up the flaws of this defense. We saw how horrible the run defense was without Zach last year. I think he could go a long way in suring that up. And if Jason could get to the QB the way he did two years ago that makes the whole defense that much better, particularly the secondary. I guess we could hope that Jason has a Michael Strahan type reassurgence this year and revert to his old form.

Sorry guys, but this thread reminds me as to how much we lacked talent on this team the past twenty years....Dan Marino was underrated, he did all he could to win.

Put him on this team with this type of identity, add a running game and we will get our superbowl.

I said marino because there truly is'nt anyone out theres thats that inspiring to me, maybe a young Tim Bowens

    Two more

How about AJ Duhe. He was a one man wrecking crew the year we went to the SB until he hurt his knee.

Or Dwight Stevenson. The best center I have ever seen.

Interesting concept for a thread ... I'll make the assumption that our team is "as is" and we're adding one great player from yesteryear to our roster. Kinda like playing Madden and creating Danny as a QB for the Dolphins. I'll bypass the easy ones (Csonka, Marino, etc.)

Here's some players that should merit consideration:

    • Jake Scott (S) - Would immediately come in and set the right attitude in our secondary. Five consecutive Pro Bowls, from 1971 to 1975. Underrated as a Punt Returner. Pairing Jake Scott with Jason Allen would be a pretty good combo, in my book.
    • John Offerdahl (ILB) - Anchored our defense in the late 80s. Would also set the right attitude on defense. Honorable mention to Nick Buoniconti and "prime" Zach Thomas, who could also fit in and set attitude in the middle. Offerdahl would help the young linebackers we just drafted, and also be a presence alongside Jason Taylor.
    • Mark Duper / Mark Clayton (WR) - I'm going to cheat and go for the Marks brothers as one player, because their careers were so intertwined. They're both undersized, but with Wilford cutting across the middle as a big target, they really could be used effectively. Add Ginn into the equation, and there's just not enough depth on the field to cover everyone. All of the sudden our QB is going four-wide and spreading the field.

Unfortunately, this isn't Madden, so as much as I would like to see these things happen, I just have to cross my fingers and hope that some of the young guys we have on the roster today can do half the things these greats from years past did.

A lot of thought on this one. While if cornered I would say Marino, a guy I like and sort of set the tone of the old regime OL was Larry Little. I have to believe a guy like Larry Little was a Bill Parcells kind of guy.

My first thought was Paul Warfield... naturally the first poster in this thread beat me to it.
How about Richmond Webb. Move Long to RIGHT tackle, Carey to guard, and watch out! Best oline in football.

    I'd take Mark Clayton...

    OR

    Louis Oliver...

and if you want a third pick I'd go with Richmond Webb...

Best set of safetys that ever played the game although the game is different today so I dont know how they would fit in.

I am partial to Csonka although Ronnie has some of that power and is a joy to watch.

Warfield was the best natural WR we have ever had IMO but he played in an age when the smash mouth run game was king.

It looks like we will go back to that type of game with Parcells
