They are planning to "celebrate" the Gators 2009 NC when Tim Tebow is in the house.

Of all the STUPID things this franchise has done this may top the cake. You not only are going to alienate a good portion of your fanbase (many people are season ticket holders of both the Dolphins and Canes) you are going to try to bring in fans that are "Tebow Fans" who will be rooting AGAINST you team and for the Broncos. Just that ALONE is stupidity ! This is a disaster waiting to happen. Add alcohol, and young men with a lot of testosterone, that is a recipe for fights galore in the stands. Again just plain stupidity. You are going to put at risk of being caught in the middle of mindless f*cks fighting each other, your innocent fans that are just there to root for their Dolphins.

Then you are going to "celebrate" a NC for a team that is the ACKNOWLEDGED most hated rival of the team that sits as your tenant in your stadium. And if that wasn't insulting enough, you have never "celebrated" any of the 5 (F-I-V-E) NC that your tenant has won.

Hey Dolphins its the 10th aniversary of the Canes 2001 title and many of those guys are either no longer playing or at the end of their careers. Yet you are going to celebrate a championship that still has kids playing on the college team that won it, and ignore your tenant and its accomplishments ?

I guess I should expect this of a franchise that sells team gear of its most hated rival in its own gear shop.

Just jaw droppingly insulting and ridiculous.

I don't think alot of pro fans care about college football,I like the Canes but don't care if they honor the Gators as I really don't hate the Gators.

Does it even matter ? Even if Tebow isn't with them, to celebrate the accomplishments of a team that is the MOST HATED RIVAL of your own tenant, and a good portion of your fanbase is also a fan of that tenant, is just about as insulting as can be.

Take the Hurricanes OUT of the question. Just inviting people to the game that will be rooting for the Broncos because they are Tebow fans. YOU ARE BRINGING IN FANS TO ROOT AGAINST YOUR TEAM ! UGH !!!! STUPIDITY !

Probably 40% of Dolphins season ticket holders are also Hurricanes season ticket holders. You are insulting them to the core.

Here's the link to the actual initiative: http://www.miamidolphins.com/content/exclusive-offer-gator-club-miami

It's basically Gator Day at the stadium when we play the Broncos, as the team has partnered with the Gator Clubs of South Florida. Naturally they're planning on riding the Tebow factor in this. Urban Meyer will also be there. There are tons of Gator fans in the area obviously. But plenty of them root against the Dolphins.

Aside from the business angle, would seem they're banking on more of the attendees being Dolphins fans than not.

Still, seems a kinda ****ty thing to do when this is also the Hurricanes' stadium. Especially when the Canes will play there the day/night before.

Being a Canes fan I could care less about this. The Canes are a tennant not an extension of the Dolphins. Proof enough is the Dolphins past drafts passing up on prime Canes draft choices. The Ravens have a deeper tie to the Canes than the Phins do.

You could argue that the Redskins have been most responsible for dumping money on Cane alums.

The Ravens have only been better at getting the good ones.

A more accurate statement would be that Hurricanes games get 40% of the attendance of Dolphins games.

From a business decision, why would the Dolphins care if it gets attendance up in that game?

How are the Gators the Hurricanes most hated rivals? We barely even play. FSU is our most hated rival imo.

Are you serious, or just trying to be contrary because its a thread that I started ?

I think if thought through thoroughly, you would conclude that many of the "Gator" fans will also be there as "Tebow" fans, and thus be ROOTING AGAINST THE DOLPHINS. Why would you even consider doing something that would do that ? Even if it is remotely possible ?

This is ill conceived and a disaster from so many points of view. Local Dolfans that are also Hurricane fans are livid about it, and there is now being talked about a boycott of that game. Already the season ticket base is down by thousands, and now you are forcing good DolFans to choose between the two or perhaps feel disloyal.

The PR disasters continue under Mike Dee & Steven Ross.

Sick if you have ever been around Canes fans you know they are the most hated. I know you must have been on the Canes Rivals.com site or the Scout.com sites. If you haven't just read the posts. True Canes fans there, and its not even close who is the most loathed & hated rival.

As for the reasons, 2 stick out from among the many.......

1st, the Great Gator Flop in 1971. The worst insult to the Hurricanes ever, and one of the most unsportsmanlike plays I have ever witnessed. As a former athlete yourself, just put yourself in the uniform of a Cane in that situation and see if you wouldn't loathe anyone that did that to you. That cemented my hatred for the Gator on that day, and I was only 11 at the time. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_Uzu-wPFmc ) If you are a true Canes fan, that will make you blood boil to watch it.

2nd, they refuse to play the Canes every year. Until Steve Spurrier discontinued the annual rivalry, the Miami series was the longest in Florida and for many years was played on Thanksgiving night (in the 1940's & 1950's). That was the game of the year for both schools for many years, even bigger than the Georgia game until the 1960's for the Gators. They claim they can't play Miami & FSU every year, yet Miami or FSU have never had a problem playing both. Only the Gators shied away from that challenge.

Sick I don't know a true Canes fan that even remotely thinks that FSU is our most hated rival. We have always had mutual respect between the teams, as far as I have seen & witnessed. There has never been the fights in the stands that I have seen, unlike the times I have been to Miami-Florida games, either here or in Gainesville.

Not sure what Canes fans you have been around. Obviously ones born after 1989 I guess.

My agenda ? Oh please tell me all about it, I'm all ears. I've been rooting for the Dolphins since their inception.

This is about alienating much of the fan base. Why are they doing this ? Why haven't they seen fit to "celebrate" the Canes AND Seminoles titles ? Why is it so important to do it now ?

It's an ill-conceived & badly timed event, seemingly meant to rub it in the faces of the Canes & their fans, who I will remind you are a good portion of the Dolphins fan base as well.

We'll see. Many here would like to think different because most of the people that post on this board don't live here, but I can assure you there are THOUSANDS that hold season tickets to both, and the Dolphins have just alienated many of them if they go through with this lunacy.

Ross wasn't the owner when the Hurricanes or Seminoles won, perhaps if they win one again then they will get celebrations as well.

Canes fans are way too full of themselves as well if they think this is being done just to rub it in their face.

My concern with this idea is why do the Dolphins need to pander to the Gator fans to sell tickets? I think instead of pissing off Hurricane fans, they should just lower ticket prices for games that aren't selling well. Hurricane fans are entitled to feel disrespected. If during a USA soccer match, USSoccer decided to honor a great Mexican team or Spanish team just to sell tickets, I'd be just as pissed off at that as I am at this farce. You don't celebrate the rival of your local college football team in their own stadium. I don't think the Dolphins are purposefully doing this to antagonize the Cane loyalists. They're incompetent when it comes to public relations.

Well contrary to many of the posters on this board (whose reactions I expected) the local radio shows have been about not Henne's favorable performance, or the OLine's horrific play, but this has been dominating both Joe Rose's show this morning, and now Gino Torretta's show that is on now.

This "event" may happen, but I assure you it will be a disaster. Stadium boycotts, and people returning season tickets IS happening.

In no other city or franchise would this happen. But then again, this is the Dolphins and Miami.....unbelievable.

I don't know about boycotts or returned season tickets, those seem like extreme reactions to this issue. The majority of people who can afford season tickets to the Dolphins aren't going to give them up over this laugher. People are right to be annoyed, and it's one more thing to pile on top of the wrong decisions this franchise makes (water park being the worst EVER).

This event tells me that the organization which purchased the team (Ross and his partners) still haven't recouped their investment and are desperate to make any money they can. They overspent and now are hurting because of it. Does anyone know if Ross et al have turned a profit yet? If they have, why pander to any college team and just sell tickets on their own merit? The water park idea, them going to the state legislature trying to get monies for stadium renovations, both are business ideas of people trying to make a quick buck who don't understand the local environment or culture.

Again, this isn't a big deal, but it still sucks and makes them look desperate.

Your agenda has been to insult, ridicule and rip the upper brass of this organization for the last year!

Unless you have proven statistics as to how many Canes/Dolphins fans go to games as opposed to Gator/Dolphins fans that go to games, you're simply reaching for straws.....once again!

I attended games for over 30 seasons and I can tell you that I've seen a ton of Gators fans at the games. Tons of them live right here in Miami!!

I freaking hate the Gators and think it's a pretty stupid idea but my way of showing them will be to attend this event in my Canes gear and boo just like most Canes/Dolphins fans will do.

Its not a big deal homie...
