He played pretty well for a rookie. All his passes except one was in the pocket I think. He even blocked for the run game. I was impressed. Did anyone watch the game?
Cam Newton is going to be a stud in this league. I don't think people realize this guy can actually throw a football. They will find out soon enough I guess.
I watched the entire game (i live in charlotte nc) A ridiculous, "feeling" came over the team, the fans, the announcers, and myself when Cam came out to the field. You knew you were watching someone that isnt a bust, that doesnt suck, and can/will dominate and take over. The giants defense got nervous, over persued, were caught thinking about him running.....all based off of his college performances and what he's known for. The kid is raw, but he is a beast, and is fun to watch. It's pretty cool being here in Charlotte NC for all of this, cause the people here love the kid!!! Panthers can be real good this year, and REALLY good for years. Riveria is a hell've a head coach.
I watched his game against the Giants, and he wasn't half bad. He looked quite unlike you would think a rookie would look in his first game: calm, cool and collected. I'm not calling him the next Jake Delhomme (you know, when he was actually good) quite yet, but if I were the Panthers' coach, I'd seriously think about starting him come Week One.
It was said that he would start Newton if he played well this weekend. Rivera wanted to use this upcoming game to determine who will be starting in the regular season opener.
I thought he looked good. Definitely a pass first guy if there was still any doubt. He had a lot of throws off his back foot though. Stepping up in the pocket is something he will need to work on.
I heard differently.....Steve Reed from the gaston gazette and CarolinaGrowl.com reported this morning on the radio here in Charlotte that Claussen is starting against Miami, and Newton will start preseason game 3.....and have him gameplan, prepare, and have a "regular season" type week leading up to the game, and see how he does, after game 3 he will determine if Cam starts week 1.
Seems that all young guys do. I watched Colin Kaepernick's first preseason game last night and his footwork was really poor.
If he thinks he's gonna roll over us, he's in for a rude aWakening. That said, I'll be rooting for this kid to succeed.
Cam Newton starting vs. MIA on Fri night. Follow LIVE on our No Huddle whiparound show 730pm ET & watch full game Sat 1pm ET on NFLN Per Rich Eisen.
Good, I'm excited to see him again. Hopefully they'll give him another two quarters, not just the 1st.
Accuracy was off on a few throws but like it's already been said, thought he looked good for first real NFL outing and Panther fans should be optimistic, just not have too big of expectations too soon.
I'm not seeing the continuing infatuation. Cam may end up good but he's looked far from a guarantee of success. ESPN has continued to focus nothing but on this kid and his performances while pretty much ignoring all the other high profile QB's performances. Many of them have had a better showing in preseason than Cam has. He's got a fantastic 40% completion percentage and he has predictably taken off running with wide open receivers in front of him in many of the games. This guy is living on hype right now.
