Ah hell I just remember it being high energy and the crowd went nuts. Regardless it was one game and for the other 59 games he was on average a terrible punt returner. And that is exactly what we criticized in Ted Ginn.
The question is, do you think Lou Polite makes the roster. Because if he doesn't, then yeah it is the terrible trio of Shuler, Mastrud and Epps "competing" for those backup TE positions.
That is true, not that Nolan Carroll was bad at it, but his running style was going to Nolan injured, in fact iirc he was injured returning a kickoff. Gates or the darkhorse, Livas, figure to be our Returner types, in fact if Gates develops they may take him off of Returns, assuming our yearly injuries at Wr, put him in at Wr and stash Livas or Grigsby on the ps and use them as the Returner type. I'd love to have had Sproles for that role, but Bush offers a bit more in the base offense imo, so we will kind of look for someone, between Sheets, Gates, and Livas, we have some good prospects, especially with Pat Cobbs no longer here.
What got Ginn hated by some was he played soft as a Returner and a Wr, otherwise he was a very productive player, something he rarely got credit for being, 2 yrs as the Returner/Wr and 1 yr he had 2k all purpose yds, the 2nd yr he would have if Sparano did not make the bizarre decision to put Cobbs on Returns for the first 4 games until he was injured. I liked Ted Ginn more then most dolfans did, I thought he was a role player who could be a #2 Wr if needed.
Hello everyone! Is it football season yet? It has been a long off season. I never thought it would get here. I may be feeling foolishly optimistic, but I have to put it out there that I think we're going to have a good year. Exactly! Our return game really sucked *** after we traded him and not only because our special teams blocking sucked bad! I think Gates is what Ginn should have been for us from the beginning, a deep threat/kr and maybe #2 in the future! I just hope Gates can step in day one and return kickoffs for us, with Bush hopefully returning punts we should be in good shape! But it makes me wonder why Bush wasn't mentioned yet in the depth chart for PR's! If they won't let him return punts and Gates kickoffs i riot!
Our FO just admitted their mistake to trade him away by drafting a Ginn replacement (Clyde Gates). We can only hope that he can step in and be what Ginn should have been! If the 49ers really cut Ginn, i would really be happy if we sign him back! Just imagine him and Gates with Marshall & Bess in a 4 WR set! That would be awesome! And yes, Madden rocks forever!
