I, for one, have no problem with Ireland shelling out a big one year contract to McKinnie to fix the right tackle spot. I don't think they can afford to let this play out...

It's gonna bite them big time if they don't.

    Any other suggestions?

McKinnie doesn't solve a god-damned thing at 400 pounds, and fixing that weight issue is not going to happen very quickly.

Right Tackle is fine. Marc Colombo is almost certainly not as bad as his 2010, given he was injured from the get-go. Not to mention that Lyndon Murtha is looking like he's a solid starting LT, which means he's probably pretty well qualified to man the RT spot upon Long's return.

I agree on Mckinnie not solving anything but Colombo healthy isn't an answer either. He's never been a solid RT.
I still think they should have left Carey at RT and went after a Guard but now it's Murtha or bust.

Colombo has been a solid RT for years, since he got to Dallas basically. He's been over-hyped some, sure.

Who knows with Carey, personally I don't like it and haven't liked the idea for a while now, but if Carey turns into what Leonard Davis was in his prime in Dallas, and we get an average starting RT out of Murtha and Colombo, I think the move justifies itself pretty well.

McKinnie is working to have a legal name change like Ochocinco did. His new name will be the USS Free Willy McKinnie. A beached whale that transforms into an aircraft carrier for the US Navy. The days of being a simple NFL OT are far behind and beneath his current aspirations.

there is really no one left on the market besides jared gaither and he is kind of damaged goods for now it seems, but i canĀ“t beat this drum enough, i would try to sign this guy anyways if there is a reasonable timetable behind his health status

McKinnie started this year out on the " Non football injury " list and add to that, he is almost 400 pounds. Yes, lets throw a boatload of money at a kid that has so much repsect for himself he allowed himself to blow up like an elephant and is injured also. Yeah, I can see sound reasoning therre folks.

All that is left out there in OTs are not much better. Out of all of them Max Starks previously with Pittsburgh would be the one worth looking at. Steelers simply did not want to pay him. He had some sort of neck surgery also in the off season so that also would have to be checked out. Beyone that ? yeah, Columbo is better then most of them not only physically but dedication wise too. Like many have said, prior to his knee surgery after the 2009 season, Columbo was a pretty dam good ball player. Dallas took at shot and signed another former first round pick in Alex Baron to a one year contract. Columbo may have played injured during all 2010 but he was still head and shoulders better then the putz Alex Baron, who is not even on their team this year.

Its really easy to throw names out there but its real hard to find one that actually is a decent football player. My bet is Columbo comes around and does fine. Crap, in just two plays, Carey helped end Pennys career last year. VC was blown back so far he landed on Pennys back if you all remember. On the next play it was notmuch different. Thats why I do not see why people are crying he was moved to OG. He sure is not tackle material anymore. Look at it this way. If Vernon Carey was anywhere close as good at OT as many on here think he was he would have let them cut him and teams would have been lining up to sign him. That was just not the case, not at all.

Hope you are right Billy about Colombo coming around. The dude is a real warrior anyway, that much can be said. I guess he had a scope job on one knee during last preseason and went ahead and played beginning in week 2. A lot of guys would have shut it down longer than one month.

Starks does sound like an interesting alternative too though.

Carey provides stability at RG and RT we have 3 guys competing for the job and they sort of have to let it play out before hunting for a different one if Colombo/Garner/Murtha cannot cut it.

Starks, Davis (with Carey moving back), Gaither, somebody please save that position. All reports are that Columbo sucks really bad and we've all seen Tony blinded with sentimentality before. Is Locklear still available?

    No Locklear signed somewhere.

Murtha, Garner, Colombo, we'll be fine, Carey is not moving back Bro.

Though to me, I would have Brian Waters on speed dial, but that is just me.

You guys are forgetting Ray willis, between Wiliis, Murtha and Colombo, someone will seize the opportunity I am not worried

Long Incognito Pouncey Carey and either Willis Colombo or Murtha will be an above average line,

Well, here's to hoping they figure it out. But yeah I do imagine that between Nate Garner, Marc Colombo, Ray Willis, Lydon Murtha and surprisingly this D.J. Jones fella getting some 1st string action (can't wait to see him in preseason, I never really took the time to watch him in college), they'll plug someone in at RT.

I wouldn't be totally down on an OL that features Jake Long, Nate Garner, Mike Pouncey, Vernon Carey and Ray Willis. Could be worse. Could be better.

I like Cog as well, even more so at RG. Did you ever look ar Brett Brackett, WR turned TE, from Penn State? A friend, who payed at PSU years back, told me he could surprise.

Nah, little hard to go back and try and watch Brackett after the fact.

I like Nate Garner for a starting role at one of the guard spots, if not Right Tackle. He has the mobility to get out there and do some things in space. Carey's not about to do that and Incognito isn't much better at it. You need someone other than JUST Mike Pouncey that can get out and do those things.

I was never in favor of moving Carey to G for the same reason. I'm going to have to see how this works out on the field, once the revolving door stops.

I'll eat my hat if Colombo is the starting RT on opening day. He's been abused pretty good so far in camp. Luckily they got a lot of bodies there that can play RT so I'm sure they will figure it out.

I would guess Allen Barbre gets some consideration for the RT job too.

    2.5 millie....

Still, if he trims down, who knows, never liked players who are forced to get into game conditionining shape, as if he did not know he was to fat going into Vikings camp to begin with...then again, could have been an excuse, but still, after the season he had in 2010 he should have taken this more seriously.

I've got this nagging feeling that I'm the only person who isn't on Drew Rosenhaus' mailing list.

I'm not sure if that's bad, though.
