Here we go and that might be the reason why he wasn't at practice yesterday! If he says "no" we all knew what's gonna happen to him! And no, Colombo is not an upgrade over Carey, we all know this! http://http://twitter.com/#!/caplannfl/statuses/98500714380271616
He had surgery on his knee I believe thats why he wasnt at practice..... and yes he should take a pay cut.....
Shrewd move. Ryan Harris was also cut, and Ryan Diem just took a pay cut. Dolphins have a lot of leverage with Carey.
He should take a pay cut on principle alone (based on his play last year). Of course Colombo is not an upgrade otherwise the team would have just cut him as they did Crowder. But, they are right to ask him to take a pay cut. And, in fact, if Garner is healthy, he might actually become an upgrade. I'd take a Nate Garner from two seasons ago over Carey last season. Plus with several other OT's out there, we could have a player equally as good for much less this year.
Hopefully he takes that cut. He's never played outside of Miami in his life. And Harris just signed with......the Eagles.
personally, I would like to see him stay. hope he takes a cut & we pick up Kyle Orton with the difference in contracts
Carey is a fins staple as far as O-line goes....this is a cruel way to take advantage of a long time player imo
You can argue his salary for his age and injury, but the guy certainly doesn't get much respect around here. Of all the guys that were mentioned as his 'replacement', none are as good as he is, pending the injury. I'd even say Garner is close, but you never know with his injury situation. That's one of the negative effects of the lockout, as guys that had offseason surgery seem to be having problems now because they didn't have the team controlled rehab. This kid has done nothing but be a very solid RT for several years for us and even a better than average LT for a couple of years... If he's healthy, I want him on our team versus the other options out there....
Well, imo the 8/4 Bonus Amortization has a lot to do with this move. Carey takes reduced pay, or is waived nullifying his future impact on the Cap, hardcore tactic but a sound business practice.
It's a business, pure and simple. If they can get Carey to take a pay cut and get a good player with that, excellent. I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea he might call their bluff though.
there is no bluff involved really, if he refuses to take that pay cut he is cut, if i understand this new cap correctly every player that is cut before august 4th will not carry any dead money into next year
He should be. His play has regressed IMO, and he's been banged up a bit recently. Lots of guys are takin cuts here, he should be one of them IMO. Hope he decides to take the cut, instead of being cut. I'd hate to enter the season without him. He's not what he used to be, but he's still damn good.
He's not going to get more on the open market. 5mil a year for Clabo pretty much set the market. And he won't get near what Clabo got...
These guys do not play. Anyone who is out of shape, loafing, under performing, causing more of a stir with his mouth than his pads, habitually on the injury list or any combo of the 5 is not long for this team. No matter who it is. Not only is is sound business like Pads said, it also sends a not so subtle message to the rest of the team. No one is irreplaceable.
Anyone else remember the Oline dinner they had two yrs ago? Carey/Smiley/Grove/Thomas/Long were sitting in a steakhouse and chatting? 60% of those guys are gone, and maybe soon 80%.
Ireland/Sparano: "Vernon, we need you to take a pay cut or else." Vernon Carey: "Or else what?" Ireland/Sparano: "Or else we will cut you, turn our right side into a turnstile that will get Henne killed and get us fired."
Chad Pennington could just have easily been spreading butter on his toast in the morning and dislocated his shoulder. He was hit around his knees and dislocated his shoulder.
This is most likely true since I'm noticing that the Giants have already done it. the Giants have purged their OL cutting, Seubert, O'Hara and Shawn Andrews. I see we are doing the same with Carey if he doesn't agree to a pay cut.
Sparano: Remember that time I said I would quit ****ing with the OL? Dolphinfans being held off a building by the ankle: Thats right! You did! Sparano: I LIED.
I think we should be prepared for the possiblity that Carey could get cut by the 4th, the Vikings pick him up and we go into the season with Colombo.
Chad fell into the back of Jake too on that play. It is really hard to tell which part of it caused the injury because it seemed like such a vanilla sack. There was nothing vicious about the way he got hit at all. Jake was controlling his man but was getting pushed back a little too. I'd guess Chad falling into him was how he got hurt. Seeing that play and how it got Chad hurt, it was only a matter of time that it was going to happen. His shoulder reacted like it was held together with wet tissue paper.
Our depth looks great, we can live without Carey. Money issue or not, I imagine duplexa will sleep a little less soundly if he leaves.
Andrews was just a backup right? They already replaced O'Hara with David Baas, so that leaves just Seubert's spot open.
