DolfanJake will find something not to like. I was hoping for Burnett last year, so I'm totally on board with this signing.

Why do we want Zach Miller exactly? I want a blocking TE. We have our pass catcher in Fasano.

I think we'll have to wait on the results before you can make that claim.

True, but it does show that Burnett was thrown at 67 times, 7th most, gave up 48 completions, 9th most, and an 11.3 yard average, 9th worst.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have agreed to terms with ILB Kevin Burnett on a four-year contract.

One of the league's most overlooked linebackers, Burnett graded out exceptionally well in Pro Football Focus' ratings the past two years in San Diego. Though recently released Channing Crowder has been premier a run defender, he was liability in coverage. Burnett provides a significant upgrade, likely at a similar price. The Bills will have to turn to Plan C at linebacker.

    so true

Aside from the pass rush, that is absolutely not true. I am looking at the same grades they are.

I'm just saying, how can anyone claim that this is a good signing? We haven't even seen the guy in shorts yet and we can't know this is a good move unless we've seen it played out. It's totally beyond me how so called Dolphins fans can already say that this is a smart signing, when FA isn't even over yet. Get a grip, will ya? :wink2:

Fasano is already one of the best blocking TEs in the NFL.

I don't want to make this into yet another Chad Henne thread (we've had enough of those), so I'll make it brief: I have absolutely nothing against Chad Henne. I would love if Chad Henne was a great NFL quarterback. I liked Chad Henne coming out of college and would have drafted him, too.

That said, as much as it pains me personally, I don't think Chad Henne will ever be a good NFL quarterback. There's nothing personal involved. I don't hate Chad Henne. I'm not celebrating when Chad Henne throws an interception. I merely look at the matches and see a quarterback that quite simply isn't good enough. You might look at it and see something else entirely and that's just fine. As for me, I don't see a starting calibre QB. I think I've been right last season and I think you can bring up the whole Henning situation. Fair game. I'm still prepared to argue that Henne is a bad NFL QB based on my own evaluation. I might be proven wrong. I don't think so, but I might. If I am, feel free to call me out.

i just think he has made some throws that you wont see many QB´s make, agreed most of them were the year before, but i believe deep in my heart that he can succeed

i dont have any issues with fasano catching the ball, he gets mostly hammered if he catches the ball and barely does the ball come out

Too bad he dropped too many easy catches last year, but he is Ireland & Sparanos favorite player, that's why we're stuck with him! :pity:

Fasano is probably middle of the pack as a receiving threat amongst TEs, but he one of the 2-3 best blocking TEs in the league, run or pass.

I don't know how it will turn out, but I like Burnett as a player and think he is an upgrade for our defense. I can like a signing can't I, even if I cannot predict the future? Even if I'm more of a glass half full guy, rather than glass half empty, I'm not going to make wild proclamations and say Burnett is great, he is going to the Pro Bowl, etc. Just like with Moore, I'm not going to rip him as being a weak armed never gonna amount to anything QB. Is that so hard to understand or do you just like to be a jackass and abuse the elderly?

Heard at work from a Bills fan that we dropped Crowder, He really seems to think that Buffalo will snatch up Channing due to losing Posluzny. I was pretty stoked because I knew we would get an upgrade...Kevin Burnett is a really solid move. Ireland needs to stick around even if we lose Sparano.

I think this is going to be a great pickup for us, Burnett sounds like a smart player, something many complained Crowder was not, and a great pass defender. Also like what Ireland is going this offseason.

I think Ireland is the best talent evaluator we've had since Bobby Beathard. Hope he stays for a long time.

I think the last one is the one I like most. I love his game, and I respect him as a man. More than I can say about Channing on either score, sadly.

Agreed, it would be nice had he done better, I just don't think it gives a complete picture of how well he can cover, for the reasons given. That goes for anyone else too, not just Burnett. I like PFF, but this is one thing they don't rate for whatever reason. The best pass coverage defender on any team could conceivably have zero passes defensed and zero ints, and a low pct of the tackles, just because QBs would seldom throw at him.

A year ago I wasn't sure, but I'm beginning to agree. To me, the suspect part of the resume during his shared time with Parcells was an inability to assess DBs (CB and Safety). Vontae, Sean Smith, Clemons have made me rethink that.

The Henne thing will hang over him if he doesn;t solve it, but if you look at his body of work, the Dolphins team is more talented, on paper, at almost every position today than it was when Ireland arrived.

I mean, even QB is better, as Henne is better than Beck and Lemon.

Just woke up (I work 2 12 hour overnight weekend shifts every weekend :( ).

First thing I saw was that Channing Crowder was cut (YAY IT'S LIKE CHRISTMAS!) and then found out Burnett was signed in his place and whooooo!

Burnett had 2.5x sacks and 2x the interceptions and only 1 short in forced fumbles last season then Crowder has had in his entire SIX YEAR CAREER.

Or maybe he hasn't liked his options. Remember this is his first year fully in charge. If he goes through next season without picking up a high draft (1st round QB) or high end vet...then I think we can safely say such.

Jones and Carroll look like good picks too, which makes me optimistic that Jimmy Wilson will be too and replace Amaya as a special teams maven.

That is the one position he hasn't really made his mark on, yet. If someone like Devlin turned out to be an unearthed diamond though, we could begin to place wreaths of flowers at Ireland's feet. Next draft he can make his big QB pick signature move too maybe, unless Henne explodes this season, and either way, I think we'll be happy.
