Guys i am confused we bring in Thomas and Bush so what is theier strenghts? what is to happen to Lex , Cobbs, and Ronnie and Ricky ? it seems like when the offensive coordinator lets them do their thing they still mafr plays but the darn wildcat really is killing their careers in my opinion. So why not keep Ronnie and cut Cobbs and Hilliard and add a faster wr then what we have for special teams . and dont foget Lousalka Polite I am a big fan of his . personally we dont need four runningbacks we do need a big brusing tightend to compliment Fasano. the Clay kid may be the answer but we'll see. I wont have a problem if we keep Ricky either so Guys whats your take on these players ?
They leave. Definitely Cobbs and ONE of Ricky/Ronnie. I think BOTH Ricky and Ronnie leave. I'd forgotten entirely about Lex Hilliard, in fact. Which pretty much says all you need to know about him at this point.
Honestly I think we are going to see a completely different style of running game this year. I think the days of us lining up in the I formation and pounding the ball 2-3 yards at a time are over. I think we are going to see more stretch plays, guys running outside the tackle making one cut up and going. I'm just not sure that any of those guys you mentioned are suited for that type of offense. The guys what we have picked up on the other hand are suited for that style of running. It makes since when you have one of the best blocking WR's in the league, the best LT, and hopefully one of the best pulling centers with Pouncy. Run the ball to the edges and let those plays set up your pass. I at least hope I'm right with this assumption, if we are going to try and be that same smashmouth team with the guys we have now, were in for a long long season.
At this point, I'd like to see Ricky or Ronnie stay along with Thomas and Bush. If were going to continue to pound the ball between the tackles, we all know Bush wont be doing that, so it falls on Thomas. Do you want your rook carrying the full load like that? Probably not, I don't think Hilliard is anything special, so I'd like to keep Ricky or Ronnie around, have him split the majority of the carries, and use Reggie in there as well for screens, outside runs, hell, I'd even like to see him line up in the slot quite often. Line him up against some LB's, he should win that battle everytime, throw him some screens to the outside, let him do his thing.
And what becomes of Benjarvis Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, Shane Vereen, and Stephan Ridley? I don't see Ronnie to the Pats at all.
Now that we have Bush, I want Ronnie back...between the Dtrain, RB and Bush...we'll do alright...I like sexy Rexy too. Having to sit behind Brown and Williams, he didn't get to show much so we really don't know about him just yet, other than he flashed a bit in filling in for injuries at times...
I think the only way to motivate sexy Rexy to play running back is to tell him there is a sandwich in the endzone. Then hed be a freight train. Now I think Lex is a good 3rd RB with ST ability.
Im honestly ok with resigning ricky. He'll be a solid 3rd RB for one year and he'll do well with limited touches. Besides, he's not all that far away from being our all time leading rusher.
There have always been rumors that Ireland sees Hilliard as a potential starter. I think the vision is Thomas and Hilliard as your pounders and Bush as your COP. I think they envision Thomas who was a QB originally, as their WC trigger man and Bush as the jet sweep. I think the other three guys are gone. The only one that might be brought back is Brown, but I think his lack of STs ability makes that less likely.
I got a feeling we end up with Ronnie. Ronnie, Bush, Thomas, Marshall, Bess... Henne is gonna have some decent weapons. We'll see what he does with them.
