I actually don't mind Matt Moore much. Worth finding out if it was his 2009 performance that was an aberration or his 2010 performance. Low risk, potential high reward signing on and by itself.

If this is true, if we were going to go sign a medicore QB to compete with Henne as a stopgap, I would rather have tried to get Marc Bulger.

It's been said that Moore got $5M for two years. Insurance or #3? Strangely, if true, yet another two year contract.

Considering the way Ross acted in the offseason, I totally believe that he has this regime on a short leash so he can flush the lot at the end of the year if it's a bad year. Two year contracts make it less painful to cut "their players" when a new head coach and GM consider coming in to take over.

I don't think Ireland is restricted. I think he told Ross there were no franchise QBs available and that the best thing they could do was to keep their picks for the expected good QB draft.

I dont know about this. If he can return to 2009 form, then this could be great... If he just lingers from last season, we are going to have a pretty crappy QB duo.

I'm trying to think of two year deals made for players in this age range, and can't come up with any.

Orton def wasn't a jackpot by any means, so maybe this was the smart choice. He did put up good numbers at the tail end of 2009 season. Then again he also tanked miserably last season.

I can understand that Raf, and agree. Don't know about the three two year deals, and maybe Soliai though. It does "appear" at least for now, that we are staying away from long term contracts.

There's also a thing called only one guy can start, and Denver doesn't want it to be Orton. He is NOT going to restructure. Why would he? If they cut him he can go to Miami and start and make more.

Denver has one of the top jersey sales players in Tebow. They have made it pretty clear he is taking over in Denver. Orton would'nt sit pretty and watch that happen, and Tebow will struggle and open a can of worms Denver won't want to deal with.

I would have preferred Sproles on a four year deal over Bush on a two year deal (effectively a 1 year deal), but based on the pre-free agency rumors I attribute that more to a difference of opinion in evaluation than a restriction. I also expect that Ireland believes that it just doesn't pay to sign backs to long term deals.

Soliai has to be a question of motivation. He was basically a lump until his contract year and then blew up. That should always be a concern. Personally, I would drag my feet on Soliai for a couple of weeks to make sure the "I'm at 340 lbs and in great shape" claims are legit.

    Number one in sales actually.

You make a good point , and I feel the same way , I would not overpay for Orton , so if the price isn't palatable , no thanks.

Miami just needs to add some real talent at other positions through FA then, and if we need to wait till next year for the QB we truly need then we do , but we have more in place in other positions and enough assets in draft choices to get the QB that is needed.

Wasn't there a report that he came in at weight or under and passed the conditioning test with flying colors? You could just extend him during the season if he's doing well but it would proabbly be better to just do it now and save some cap space.

I haven't see any reports yet, maybe.

They're not going to sign a long term deal now and then extend him during the season. They could always use the cap space, but that's really only an issue if they have a target in mind.

I have wondered if that was the impetus for Bush over Sproles.

The cap is another concern. We were $12-15M under to start. Rookies get $4M total this year. Bush at $5M, McD at $3M, and Moore at $2.5 used that up. Not much you can do with structuring a cap friendly contract on two year deals.

We don't know the details of each contract to the point of how much they count against the salary cap. You're making assumptions.

Not sure on Ross's involvement on the other things mentioned but, this one looks to have his fingerprints on it.

No veterans waived, 1 mid level signing and one low level signing in FA, and we pass on Orton for Matt Moore.

Did we have to buy out Moore's Arena League contract?

The rookie money is fact, and multiple reports that Bush will be paid $5M this year, although I guess it could all be a signing bonus with half pro-rated to next season, not likely. I'm not sure on the others but, there is not much you can do with two year deals. I don't see how there is much left, and I've been following contracts and cap stuff for years.

Oh sure, but look at what they did, waited until every really viable replacement for Henne was gone, even down to Gradkowski, and then drag Matt Moore into town?

    Is that prudence?

    Sounds like desperation to me.
Seems to me this regime likes to try to polish turds into diamonds. Worked for Wake I guess..but other than that..ugh
Meanwhile, the Pats and Jets keep grabbing up, you know, guys that can actually play football really well.

The only viable replacement was Orton and color me glad that we didn't add another Henne level talent at the cost of a high pick and a big contract.

I keep on reading about the Jets grabbing people up. Who did they sign?

EDIT: I looked it up. Santonio Holmes, Wayne Hunter and Nick Folk.

They are totally grabbing up players who are on their team.

It's been speculated it's Orton holding up the trade.

He wants either his outright release or his deal reworked into Kevin Kolb money. One quick point I believe hes a "vested veteran" and if hes on the Broncos roster Day one he gets paid his entire $8,870 salary.

This is on Orton and to be fair Orton is working both the Fins and Broncos perfectly.

I was reading yesterday where someone pointed out nearly half the league didn't have more then 1 signing and a good 8 teams had 0 signings at that point. Gave me a little perspective.

I don't even necessarily mean this year..but in years prior..they go for it. They went and got Holmes, Edwards, Leonard, LT, Fanaca (sp?), tried with Favre, and are seriously in the hunt for Nmadi. We got Dansby and Marshall last year, which damn nice, but other than Pennington falling in our laps we've been fairly quiet on the FA and trade fronts especially when it comes to impact positions.

I'll agree with that...no way would I have given up more than a 4th. The courtship of it is pretty damning of what these guys think of Henne. For all this mess, why not just take Mallet with the pick instead of D. Thomas? Running backs are a hell of a lot easier to find than QBs.

I would not say desperation, they were full of crap when they said "oh, we will bring in competition for Henne!"

No, no they did not plan on doing so.

    the poor house

I respectfully disagree with you . when we had Dave we had Welker, Chambers, R-MC , Ricky Donald Lee Brian Griese , Sage and Jay and all those guys are better then this wr corp we have now. Plus our defese wasnt that bad durring the Wanny Regime . Wanny has a better record then Sparano but what i hated was that Rick Speilman wand dave were never on the same page.

I would take Ireland over R.S. anyday of the week Dave W. wasnt a bad coach for he had good players and only missed the playoffs ony twice . Dave just couldnt draft woth a darn. I would take Wanny over Sparano but i would take Ireland over Speilman .
Please dont give me crap over Wanny, he wasnt a bad coach he just wasnt a good gm at Least he wasnt as bad as Cam

Apparently this is the case, and most people up here are as pissed as many people are down there. Kolb's take in made Orton jealous and he began making more demands. If Orton is still on the team on the 6th when I go to scrimmage, I'm wearing my Tebow jersey and booing my brains out at him.

By the way, Orton just got his 1.5M roster bonus.
