    Albert Breer says it's a 2013 5th rounder.

    Patriots really nailed this one.

Hopefully the Pats get the Redskins version of him, not the Titans final year version.

Agree but man with the Patriots playing so much 4-3 concepts out of their 30 front, Haynesworth won't ***** like he did in Washington. Plus Belichick is pretty damn good motivator.

He's particularly good at motivating other GMs to shut their brains off and agree to all sorts of silly deals.

going to be rough time running against them. one of those games where we'll have to rely on guys like Bush and Bess to get a lot of our short-yardage gains.

Redskins trade Albert Haynesworth to Patriots

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/28/redskins-trade-albert-haynesworth-to-patriots/

In a blockbuster trade for a player who’s capable of being one of the best defensive linemen of the league — or one of the biggest headaches in the league — the Washington Redskins have traded Haynesworth to the New England Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The compensation for the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is a fifth-round pick in 2013.

I know Haynesworth didnt do diddly with the Skins....but color me not happy he is with the Pats. BB seems to know how to get the best out of every player...and I have to believe Haynesworth will recognize the oppurtunity for a championship.

    This doesnt sound good...

Don't worry we upraded rb with Bush if you can call that a upgrade I don't see it unless we saved money by not signing Brown. Belicheat will make it work. signing that over paid whiner.

Even with Haynesworth, they are not winning a championship, too many other holes on that team. But, I can still see them winning the division and this only helps.

(there is already a thread on this topic)

Wilfork did a lot of shifting to DE last year IIRC. Besides the Lions, not sure any team in the NFL will have a better interior DL now.
Dump passes, screens and runs to the outside.

    The rich get richer.
A no risk trade for a player who may have been the best in the NFL 2 years ago. Smells a lot like Randy Moss.

As Ohio said, Vince played some end last year but I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of that this year because Vince was a failure at end pretty much. What this acquisition does is give them versatility. In Haynesworth, you're getting a guy who has played pretty much every technique on the line over his career. He lined up as a 5 in Tennessee a lot, he lined up as a 1, a 3, a 2 from what I remember. You have Haynesworth now to pair up with Wilfork, whose a good plugger, to go along with Mike Wright, who is a good pass rusher, Myron Pryor who I still think is pretty good one on one (which is what he'll probably be getting with Haynesworth assuming Haynesworth is happy which I think he'll be) and Ty Warren is coming back (which could be good or bad). That's a front that is going to be very versatile, flexible and because of it being a strength, it'll allow Belichick to sit in 2 High more which he started doing a lot last year while everyone is still sitting in 1 high - 8 in the box.

Like Saban, Belichick is one step ahead (probably because of Saban).

As always, while Miami is d*cking around trying to trade for Reggie Bush, Pats giving up nothing for a possible DPOY candidate....oh and dont owe any of that ridiculous guaranteed money either, so they still have mega cap room for another big signing....come on you think NE is getting burnt??

Yeh....it just happens over and over again. Im gonna quit hoping for the next Marino to land in Miami.......Im gonna start hoping for the next Belichick and Patriots front office. They just keep making deals like this........ughhhh

I mean...is there some reason Miami didnt notice Haynesworth would forfeit his guaranteed money?

Haynesworth is an absolute bear on third down and a constant double-team. He immediately becomes their best pass rusher.

That said, he is New England's best pass rusher. Their best pass rusher being a defensive tackle. While that creates lots of opportunities for others, they don't have another guy that can really do it. Banta-Cain fell off last year, and he's gone. Mike Wright led the team with 5.5 sacks.

Yeah but they're using a lot of 4-3 concepts and Haynesworth's been used as a weak side end quite a bit by Tennessee when he was there. Their pass rush weakness may not be as big of a weakness anymore IF Haynesworth shows up.

    Big if though.

Plus they still may not be done.

It's a little more complicated than that.

The prima donna problem child on a losing team with a shaky regime, a 3-4 defense and South Beach?

Not a lot of situations that could tame Haynesworth. New England is the best of a very small bunch.

On another note, it's not as if we need him anyway. We've already got one of the best and deepest defensive lines in the league, with multiple two-way players at our disposal.

Indeed. I don't see a problem with him fitting in at all in that defense.

I was speaking solely to the 3rd down, four-man front situations there.

True but Wilfork - Pryor - Wright - Haynesworth isn't terrible. Not great either though. We'll see. Here's to the acquisition failing though.

The fact that it's a 5th in 2013 ... I have to say that the Patriots are just very good at pulling off these trades. Give up a 5th two years from now for Albert Haynesworth (much like the Randy Moss trade) and when he wants to play - he's the most Dominant DT in the NFL.

They still have issues - but this is a solid deal for them, imo. It's not Asomugha to the Jets, but still quite a deal.

Probably because he wouldn't have forfeited his money to come to Miami.

It should come as no surprise that players want to play for the Patriots. It's not that the Dolphins are missing or not trying to get these players, it's more the players are willing to work more with the Patriots in hopes of getting that ring.

Vince & Albert? that's 2 double teams required right there <side by side>. That alone should free up opportunities for creating pressure, no?

Belichick has to have private investigators surveying every team's GMs reporting to him on which GM is cheating on their wife.

    Well away from here
    BB's conversation with rival GM's.

"We've got tons of tape on you, and we think we can work with you. Now obviously some of this stuff you don't want out in public,......so, if you wouldn't signing off on this."

Here are Haynesworth's sack totals, by season:

    1
    2.5
    1
    3
    2
    6
    8.5
    <---------$100,000,000 Payday
    4
    3

This is a guy thats had more lawsuits in the past year than sacks. He has the ability to be a great player, but over the course of his career, he's proven that he doesn't really care about football as he does money.
