Bush really isn't much of a play maker. If he hadn't won the Heisman, nobody would be raving about getting this guy. Here are his stats from last season (the 4th season in a row in which he missed games):

    Year Team G Att Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD Lng 1st 1st% 20+ 40+ FUM
    2010 New Orleans Saints 8 36 4.5 150 4.2 18.8 0 23 6 16.7 1 0 0

    RECEIVING
Year Team G Rec Yds Avg Yds/G Lng TD 20+ 40+ 1st FUM
    2010 New Orleans Saints 8 34 208 6.1 26.0 20 1 2 0 10 0

Just for comparisons sake, here are the stats for UFA Jerome Harrison last season:

    Year Team G Att Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD Lng 1st 1st% 20+ 40+ FUM
    2010 Philadelphia Eagles 8 40 5.0 239 6.0 29.9 1 50T 9 22.5 3 1 1
    2010 Cleveland Browns 4 31 7.8 91 2.9 22.8 0 39 3 9.7 1 0 1

    RECEIVING
Year Team G Rec Yds Avg Yds/G Lng TD 20+ 40+ 1st FUM
    2010 Philadelphia Eagles 8 8 43 5.4 5.4 15 0 0 0 1 0

    Here's Darren Sproles:

    2010 San Diego Chargers 16 50 3.1 267 5.3 16.7 0 34 10 20.0 3 0 1

    RECEIVING
Year Team G Rec Yds Avg Yds/G Lng TD 20+ 40+ 1st FUM
    2010 San Diego Chargers 16 59 520 8.8 32.5 57T 2 3 2 25 0

I don't see why Bush is considered a great acquisition. And his stats while he's been in the league have been considerably better when he plays on turf compared to when he hasn't. So unless we're putting turf in, we can reasonably expect his stats to be even more pedestrian than what he has been providing.

Interesting for NO though... to offer him up in trade him to a non-playoff contending team (yeah yeah), to fill the same role he would in NO. Forcing him to take a pay cut in NO instead of giving him an option in free agency. Hope it works out for us though... I like him as a change of pace back.

Bush agent has offers from other teams that exceed what the Saints were willing to rework his contract to. Hence the trade.

Wow! got up this morning expecting some Dolphin news, but this was not it. Providing we can actually sign him, as long as we don't over pay, I guess I would be OK with it. If it doesn't work out, I am gonna start feeling like a guy who can't get a date for the prom ;).

Per Jeff Darlington, Ireland wanted to sleep on the terms before pulling the trigger.

Normally I'd be alarmed and would lead me to believe the pick is a bit higher. But the fact that he'd been negotiating past 2 AM.....

I just hope Bush stays healthy.

Ahh, don't feel so bad about the prom date thing. If I tried to get a date for the prom, they'd think I was just being some old perv.

If it's for a late round pick or a backup player I don't have a problem with this trade. I have never really been a fan of his, one of my favorite clips is him getting jacked up and crawling off the field (oh well), but he does have great value as a c.o.p. back and punt returner. Frankly who are you going to add with what we assume we are giving up that will bring as much as him.

Good Move, not great, but good.

I'm not really that high on Bush, I think he's overrated because of his college career and the fact that he does make high light worthy plays on occasion. He's isn't very durable, he's a terrible running back unless he has an open field to work with. I don't really understand trading anything other than a 4th+ round pick and really a 4th is pushing it to me.

He does add some speed to the offense and I think any Qb we have should find him a nice target but this doesn't really make our running game any scarier and with a rookie being our focal point in the running game I'd rather see us going after a true Rb. Not a terrible move, I hope Bush can stay healthy here and provide a nice spark if we get him but I don't think this makes our team into a contender. I think this move reeks of a "the owner said get some flash on offense" type of move, kind of reeks of a Dan Synder move to be honest.

The thought of a Donald Thomas/Reggie Bush backfield does not instill in me the kind of confidence that would make me pump my fists and say, playoffs, here we come.

so if this deal goes through, which with our history i´m not so sure right now, is reggie gonna be daboll´s version of joshua cribbs in this offense ? i wouldnt mind to resign ronnie on a 1 year deal if we get bush, still interesting to see if we really have no interest in VY when he gets released today

Actually someone else said it and he simply replied to them.

No word yet, but that's the pick I can live with. Basically paying for the right to negotiate exclusively.

Though I expect to be disappointed and it's actually a 5th.

I'm alright with this as long as we plan on bringing back Brown or Williams to go with Thomas, or maybe Bradshaw is still in the works too? I dont want to rely on a thomas, bush, hilliard backfield. However, the addition of Bush is nice, we need some speed, and a playmaker. Reggie brings that. Not just as a RB, but as a pass catcher, and return man.

I'd live with getting him for a Sixth rounder.
He does bring speed to this team and he is an a exciting player to watch.
Overrated? Yes Good receiever? Yes. Can he run between the tackles? No.
Good returner? Yes. Injury Prone? Yes.

I would personally be glad to see Reggie Bush acquired. He adds that much more of versatility to the offense. We complained all of last year about not having a X-Player on offense and the doubles BMarsh was drawing and how the offense was so predictable. With Reggie, you greatly mitigate that risk going into 2011-2012. I'm pretty sure we all know that Reggie isn't going to line up at the HB on 1st and 2nd and run between the tackles. But I don't think we really need him to do that.

BMarsh, Hartline on the outside, Bess and Gates on the inside and Reggie at the HB on 3rd down. Who do you cover?! BMarsha will manhandle any DB who goes up against him 1 on 1, cept for maybe Revis and I think BMarsh can win that battle too. Gates....put a safety on him if you want to....toast. Bess....c'mon man...we already know what happens when DBess gets funky out there! Hartline is solid. And Reggie coming out the backfield?! Who gone cover him, a linebiker?!?!? He's already proven that aint a good idea.

Now....he's not going to put up probowl numbers. He's not going to be the go-to guy. But his versatility opens up oppurtunities on the offense. We just gotta get that boy some Vitamin D and its a good pick up if the price is right. Better than Kory Sheets and Patrick Cobbs. I'll tell you that.

In his limited play, Bush has more catches than any RB in the NFL since he came into the league. From Mike & Mike.

This trade makes no sense to me. Everyone here in New Orleans knows that Reggie was gonna get cut or come back at a reduced salary. So why would Reggie re-work his contract for the Dolphins when he could just get cut and get a new contract with anyone?

I wonder if the Jets going strong after Asomugha facilitated this a bit more. Let's face it, if the Jets have 2 lockdown corners teams will need to find other places to throw the ball.

Why does the title of this post read that the Dolphins have traded for Bush? No...they have not traded for Bush.

Anyhow, if Bush can be had for cheap, 5th rounder for example, then I'm all for it. Give the guy 10-12 touches per game with punt returning duties and we'd have a homerun type player making plays for us. And as SouthBeach mentioned, Bush is a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. Instead of having Ronnie "I like to pretend I'm on Dancing With The Stars Every Play" Brown getting the dumpoff, Bush may actually bring up the DB's and break one every once in awhile.

Right, but the trade is contingent on Bush re-working that contract. So why get traded for a new contract when he could just simply get cut and sign a new contract with any of the 31 other teams???

The scuttlebutt down here in New Orleans is that the Saints wanna keep Reggie away from their division rivals, the Buccanneers.
That's the Saints' motivation. Not sure what the Dolphins motivation is.

Some of you are hilarious. Were about to adress a serious need with a young game changer and you're worried about losing a 5th or 6th rnd pick? I'd rather have Bradshaw myself, but Bush will bring this team serious speed out of the backfield. BRING ON BUSH!!!!
