NFLN's Scott Hansen just reported (via source) the Dolphins are NOT interested in Vince Young, and don't believe Marc Bulger could beat out Henne. It's Kyle Orton or stand pat.
Thanks for the Page Four Heart Attack everyone. A 3rd is acceptable. A conditional escalating 4th preferable. A 2nd? Not so much.
No disagreement there. But chew on this, the Jets got Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards for a 5th and a 3rd. They got Cromartie for a conditional 2nd-3rd IIRC. All three guys were still on their rookie contracts and manageable salaries. I'd rather spend a 2nd/3rd on a WR or CB who can make Henne's job easier than on a guy who can come in and compete w/ him. I'd like to see the team show some confidence in Henne, give em the keys and let him go. If he bombs fire his ***, but at least give him a chance. Let's see what he can do w/ an offense built around him, a solid running game and a couple seasons of starting experience under his belt. Orton is a perfect example of a guy who struggled early in his career only to become a decent QB once he got some experience and found a OC/system that matched his skill set. It's ironic that we want another team's discarded developmental project, but we don't have the patience to continue the development of our own guy.
Kyle Orton is only 28. Is it inconceivable to think with the stability of a long-term deal that he could be a "long-term" QB? I mean if he's playing well until he's 34, I'd consider 6 years as long term. I disagree with this idea that he's only slightly better than Chad Henne. I think he's much better than Henne. His stats indicate progression every year. I'd be happy trading a 3rd round pick for Kyle Orton. I'm more interested to see what we're paying him if/when he comes here.
I mentioned Glazer saying 3rd or 4th earlier today. La Canfora mentioned/speculated 3rd or 4th with escalators a few minutes ago. Nobody's claiming it's done, but the big boys are all saying 3rd or 4th. That sounds about right to us.
i just can´t ignore these numbers from the last 2 years, as much as i like henne : 2009 & 2010 Kyle Orton 41 TD 20 INT Chad Henne 28 TD 33 INT we go probably go to the playoffs the last 2 years
Actually, I think we can all agree that regardless of what the problem is or how it came to be, it's most likely Padre's fault.
I'd be happy with Orton and all of the Cowboy's castoffs.LG Allen would look fantastic next to Jake Long, Barber would be a nice chain moving power back, and I know it might not be popular but I'd love to add WR Roy Williams as our big WR.
They got those guys cheap because they were screw ups whose teams were looking to dump them. Orton by all accounts is a stand up guy who was a captain and union rep. His value is a 2nd although the situation dictates that we should be able to get him for a 3rd with the pick possibly moving up to a 2nd depending on how he does .
Ireland has a set price for Orton in terms of draft pick compensation and Orton's contract, he will not pay over that amount as apparently, they are quite willing to risk the entire season on Chad Henne "developing".
Nice seeing you back Todd you're avatar looks good but you need to fill it up. Look at it this way we need a replacement to compete with Thigpen gone why not Orton?
I understand... contract talks take time. We want everything to be done and over with in a day. From my understanding is a trade is agreed upon, but the new deal Orton wants is the hold up. Just from what I understand...
Maybe they are waiting to see what the Cardinals cough up for Kolb. Hopefully we won't even try to match that.
If we trade for Orton, that would probably prevent us from drafting one of the top QBs out of what's going to be a very good QB class in next year's draft. You all cool with that? I'm definitely not implying to "Suck for Luck"(hate the sound of that one) or do some "Bleedin' for some Weeden" etc, but to get one of those guys, we'll probably need all the ammo we can get. Would you rather that we take our lumps with Henne and hope for the best and then try to draft our guy next year? or hope that Orton can take us to the promise land?
Well, not sure that it would Sceeto, with #1 picks salaries capped we can take one of those Qb's and sit him behind Orton and develop him (which is what happens with the great Qb's), the cap means you can have that rook salary sitting on the bench and not be forced to squeeze production out of them. Though I would not like such a strategy as we have some needs around the team even after a Orton is/if he is, acquired, ILB, stands out so does Te and we could use more talent at G.
I miss Todd's old avatar personally. I wonder if he had some kind of religious epiphany during his hiatus that led him to go for something a little less risque?
Would it be easier to ignore when I remind you that those are Orton's 5th and 6th years stats compared to Henne's 1st and 2nd?
Actually it would be Henne's 2nd and 3rd year stats. Do you want to wait 3 years so we have the common years?
Nothing in the NFL happens in a vacuum Al. Orton was working with Josh McDonalds (I know), also known as the guy who helped make Tom Brady into what he is. Last year, Henne was working with Dan Henning.
The Patriots didn't even hire an offense coordinator last year, if I recall. Shows how important Josh McDaniels really was to that organization. Bill Belichick is the genius, not the guys below him. Kyle Orton worked with a worse cast than Chad Henne did... Jake Long or Ryan Clady? Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams or Knowshon Moreno (or whatever failed free agent pickup they had replacing the oft-injured Moreno)? Brandon Marshall or Brandon Lloyd? And Henne actually had a great defense behind him... Kyle Orton had one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
