An out of shape Marshall, Hartline, and numerous injuries didn't really help us beat teams deep. lol. An in shape Marshall, Edmund Gates, and an adjusted offensive philosophy are a different story IMO.
TP! Right on Bro, I've been thrashing Henne so much it has been almost unfair...he needs a champion...
Welcome back TP!!! As you can see Kyle Orton has morphed into an All-Pro/Franchise QB who we must trade draft picks for during your absence. I blame you, @sshole .
I think, with a little more consistency and the fact the Henne has had time to mesh with the player during unofficial workouts, he's got just as much potential - if not more - to lead this team to at least a 5th or 6th seed. He can make every throw Orton can make. And he's done it against overall better competition that Orton has. I don't see this even being a slight upgrade. And to throw away picks and players for him makes it that much worse. If we land him, I hope he proves me wrong (if he beats out Henne). But looking at his past seasons as a starter, I just don't see it. Neither do Broncos fans, who are anxious to see him go.
Nail on the head Aqua. Let's be honest people, how many of the Pro-Orton crowd saw more than a handful of his games last year? Palmer? Young? Bueller? Anyone? Moreover, if Kyle Orton's career had happened in Miami, all 6 years w/ the exact same production and win totals would ANYBODY be clamoring for him to be the starter? My guess is he would need a cadre of bodyguards to travel anywhere in the Tri-County area after 6 years of the garbage he's put up. Its only been 3 years and we're ready to dump Henne, even though we openly admit that he was ill served by his coaches and left hanging by his running game. But Orton is the guy to take us to the playoffs? I guess the grass IS always greener.
If it's for a second rounder then this regime would have just traded any realistic chance of getting a franchise QB in here away for a QB that may not be any better than Henne next year.
My buddy a Bronco fan txt me this just now, I just asked him where he heard him say it. Apparently Schefter also said it should happen after restructring his contract. What the hell we always have to trade 2nd's for wishy washy QB's??
jamie dukes said on NFLN something like that : "if mcnabb goes to the vikings for a 6th rounder, the broncos can´t expect kings ranson for orton", i normally don´t like dukes but this makes sense
Ok, small false alarm, this is where he saw it: http://broncotalk.net/ Thank God and sorry man, like he said he is a Bronco fan and probably hoping for the best.
If it's a 2nd rounder then we got robbed. That's Speilmann overpaying for Feely all over again. And for the reading comprehension challenged, I'm not saying that Orton will be as bad as Feely simply b/c we also traded a 2nd rounder for him. I'm simply saying that a 2nd rounder is too high in this market for a QB that everybody knows is gone.
Can we hold on the "fire Ireland" demands until we get a confirmation from someone else than a buddy? No offense, but I'd like a legitimate source before I start calling for heads.
That makes me feel better, not good, but better. IMO Orton is worth no more than a 4th. But I could see somebody over valuing him to a 3rd. I see that as a stupid move, but not a monumentally stupid move.
Yeah man, I should have held off till I found out where it got it from, but he sounded like he just heard it.
No worries, man, I'm not calling you out. Just saying, we should wait for something halfway "official" before we start calling for heads.
If I'm Ireland I'm praying like hell that Arizona trades for Kolb. That would leave the Broncos woefully short of options. They'd pretty much have to get rid of Orton if they don't want to pay 9 millie for a backup QB and we'd have the additional option of just waiting for them to release him. Like him or hate him we have a serviceable starter in Henne. There's ZERO excuse for us to overpay for another QB, especially for a QB who even after 6 years of development still wreaks w/ the stench of mediocrity.
Watching NFLN, and LaConfora just said something to the effect of Orton and Miami trying to work out a restructured contract, and a third or fourth rounder being in play. A third I'm OK with. A fourth, and we're getting a bargain IMO. A second???
i had settled myself in for that 4th rounder everybody was talking about, even for a 3rd rounder i don´t know if that would be to much maybe
btw JLC was just on again on NFLN and said he thinks its just a matter of time till orton is a dolphin
Exactly how I feel, but if they are pushing for a 2nd I doubt they will settle for a 4th, if we trade for him it's probably going to be for a 3rd.
Hey Padre. I think I'm done supporting Henne (not by choice). The media seems to want Miami to acquire an average QB like Orton to be "the answer", but Sanchez gets a free pass by everyone? The Jets aren't anxiously looking for Mark's replacement despite being equal or inferior to Henne. NY knows they can win as a team while taking the time to develop Mark; it's the complete opposite in Miami. NY makes the AFC Champ game 2 years in a row, so the media etc absolve Sanchez of 2 years of poor to mediocre play; Miami plays poorly as a team, gives up too many big plays defensively, cant create turnovers, allows 4 special teams TDs with horrible ST play, and can't run the ball for crap...... so the media & fan base shifts everything to a young Henne not being able to carry us week in & week out to overcome this poor team play. For me, the bottom line is----> if our TEAM plays at a high level, there should be no reason for Miami to not contend while Henne continues developing (see Jets & Sanchez). If Miami does NOT play at a high level (see 2010), then no QB will give us a chance to win IMO. At what point do we finally give up on stop-gap type QBs and actually spend the time to develop one and build an offense & playbook around his skill set (unlike we did with Henne). What if we were the team that drafted Orton? Would we have been patient enough to develop him into the somewhat desired commodity he currently is?.... or would we have given up on him after year 3? IMO we're investing a lot in a player who will never be a franchise QB. In a division with Brady, that makes little sense to me. Personally, I'd rather spend that long term contract (and/or draft pick) on a player(s) who takes our defense over the top.
if there would be a henne supporter badge in this forum, which i hope gets finally here soon, it would have it, i still believe in this guy, i just want some competition for him, thats it
It was not towards you personally or anyone else personally. Let's just wait with the "fire XY" demands until something has actually happened.
Exactly. A 2nd is ridiculous. Sign a vet who requires giving up no draft picks and let him challenge Henne. If that fails, then at least our 2nd rounder can be used as ammunition to trade up if needed for a "long term" answer.
If it was for a fourth I would hold my nose and sigh and accept it. A third is too much. A second is pure freaking idiocy worthy of Speilman or Cam Cameron.
