Exactly, Starks has maybe a 3 million (or so) base, when we signed him he was not a very productive player.

That's essentially what is going to happen. Orton wants to go somewhere where he will start and not be a stop gap. So, if he comes here... there will not be a competition.

No. My saying is that if we end up shelling out of 3rd or even 2nd for Orton and end up with a QB controversy, this is going to be one long season.

    Back in Miami
I "get" everything just fine thanks.
I've been involved in football since I was 8 years old all the way through college so I "get" plenty.

I don't have a problem with Orton beintg competition for Henne at all except for the price tag being thrown around here. What I have an immense problem with is the accpeted sentiment that if Orton comes in that Henne's future is 100% sunk because of it. If that's the case then we have a serious problem at the helm of this franchise.

Henne's still got to be in the mix and if he performs better than Orton he should absolutely start period. Regardless of whatever we overpay for Orton.

As for the whole routine of Orton made it out of the "he sucks zone" I'm not even going to get into this discussion.
Makes little to zero sense at all. The only way you find out if a prospect is going to make it is to invest time into him.
Dosen't mean you should count 100% on him developing but you don't also throw away the prospect in the middle of the process. If some can't get that then it's not worth discussing.

Orton does like Jack Daniels ALOT..and he looks like a pretty good rock and roll star. Maybe this is not so bad.

Personally, I'd really not interested in trading Starks at all.

Unless the offer is obscene or we're going after someone massive (like a franchise QB), it's not really worth it.

As one who subscribes to the "it all stars up front" catalog, having a dominant, 27-year old, two-way defensive lineman in the middle of a very manageable contract is not something I want to give up. And I love having a bunch of depth at the position. Fourth quarter rolls around and our DL is coming at you in waves.

If Starks lands in Denver, they'd better have bitten the pillow to get him.

I'm certainly not advocating trading Starks. Just pointing out that he is worth at least a 2nd round pick in his own right and he should not be some throw in along with a valuable pick to acquire Kyle Freaking Orton

No way on trading Starks. He's our best DL IMO.

Merling and a later pick makes sense, or a 3rd rounder for him straight up.

If Orton comes to Miami I am sure based on his pay and demands he'll be the starter coming in with the understanding he has to outplay Henne.

One thing I really like about Orton: He is no dummy, he knows that the beast is one of the most dangerous players in the NFL and he gets him the ball. Getting the ball to Marshall will get us 11 or more wins. Last season whether it was the QB or the play calling we failed to make him the key cog in our scheme. For that alone I'm ready for a wholesale change.

I find it interesting that now stuff is starting to come out suggesting that Marshall and Orton are still friends. I was under the impression (and for good reason) that their relationship was a little icy because Marshall doesn't think he's very talented.

This is something I was just thinking. If Denver drops Orton, they're left with what, Brady Quinn and Tebow? The goal seemingly to either start Tebow, or challenge him. Henne would make a competent backup for them. Personally I think Brady Quinn is a bust, and even sketchy as a 2nd string backup, but then again that's just my personal opinion.

If we get Orton in a trade, Henne realistically has no place here. He's just spent the entire summer busting his butt to try and get better, on his own. It would definitely be a waste to then just sit him on the bench for us, considering the consensus that while Orton is an upgrade, he's not a worlds apart upgrade. So Henne (or Henne and a late pick) for Orton seems reasonable to me? I'd much rather see that deal than blowing a 2nd or a 3rd.

Wasn't that his explanation for throwing the ball at him last year though? That they were friends and Orton didn't take anything personal by it, and it was more of a friendly jab than a prima donna action? Of course that could have just been him saving face, but that's what I remember got sent to the press.

I really could care less about what Brandon Marshall has to say on every QB.

He's got plenty of his own **** to evaluate.

My suggestion of trading Starks for Orton straight up was a little tongue -in-cheek, but the resounding response of "Noooo" did surprise me a bit. However, I really can't disagree.

You're confusing Orton for Cutler. Brandon Marshall tossed the ball at Cutler during the Bears game because he was trash talking him and yes Marshall and Cutler are very good friends.

Darlington was definitely tweeting old quotes of Marshall's trying to figure out how he feels about Orton, but there was an article, forget if it was Kelly's, Jackson's or Hyde's, that straight up said that Orton and Marshall are still friends and Marshall would welcome a reunion.

Eh, who knows, Mando tweeted that his dolphins source told him they could not say if Orton would take a new deal, as in they did not know, not "he won't", so it remains to be seen.
