What I want to know is, where the hell is Judge Boylan??? This type of impasse really isn't anything new, and nobody should be surprised. The only way they've moved these along has been with pressure from Judges.
One would think the players would be more willing to do it since IMO they have been cast as the enemy by the majority of media reporting on this whole thing.
To be fair, it seems like De Smith isn't opposed to re-cert., but he's not pushing it either. Considering how big of a deal de-certification was, for him to push players into re-certification right away might be a tough sell, at least from my perspective.
Maybe there really isn't an impasse. The only one that talked today has been De Smith. Putting together a fabrication that the players need to take this next moment seriously and recertifying is no simple task... blah blah blah... Perhaps he's smarter than I initially thought. He's setting the players up for a "win"
Well, my initial thought was that he was trying to cover his own *** in case the deal doesn't go thru today. That them decertifying back in March wasn't just a ploy. And if the lockout continued, and the legal process continued, the NFL couldn't then use the recertification process (how simple it is) against the NFLPA*
The "win" would be in terms of which side comes out of this with the majority of fan support. It's a PR thing.
If the union doesn't re-certify there's not going to be a whole lot for De Smith to do which would justofy his million dollar salary. He couldn't negotiate on behalf of the group and each player would basically be on their own. He wants re-certification.
tangent thought... if Kolb ends up in Arizona (as expected) and does well, I'm going to regret that our team wasn't involved in trade negotiations with the Eagles.
Interesting nugget from PFT on the NFLPA recertification impasse: Basically, the owners now appear willing to certify the CBA and wait until training camp begins for the union to distribute recertification vote cards.
JeffDarlingtonJeff Darlington Ross & Dee just headed back into the meeting room. Hopefully to vote. That's where this oh-so riveting play-by-play will conclude. For now.
He's saying that if Brown and Wilson opposed the old CBA, were the only votes against it, but eventually the other owners opted out of the old CBA, doesn't it justify Brown and Wilson's initial "no" votes on the CBA? Therefore, making fun of them doesn't make sense, because they were simply ahead of the curve.
Also, say what you want about Brown, but he knows what he's doing. From a fan's perspective, he's a terrible owner, but he manages to make plenty of money in a market that isn't very big.
