http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...-receiver-brandon-marshalls-digging-deep.html I thought the article was worthy of a new thread, so it wouldn't get lost in the old one.. The man is really trying, and I thought the article was very Interesting.. If we can get this specimen of an athlete to be focused on the field, I believe its a positive thing for our team, I mean the man is reaching his max potential physically here, there should be some real payoff to that offensively for himself, and others.. A fast Brandon Marshall..Beastly...24mph..at 225 and 6'4, running a 4.4...I can't wait to see this dude in our uni this year.. Lets hope he has learned something about life, cause he sure is doing everything I could ask a player to do during an offseason..
He ran 24mph with his hands raised in the air, he says. Pretty dang fast. Hopefully we get the short area burst along with it. He says he's working on explosion and getting these elements back into his game after missing them the last two years. Interesting that he says he could feel his game take a step back last season.
With all due respect, this could just as likely be self-promotion by Marshall as it is legitimate improvement.
well Stringer, there is a big difference in what he's doing this offseason relative to the previous 2...training your *** off to improve your game against rehabbing 2 consecutive hip injuries.. I mean if people can't see that this man had no explosiveness in his game last year, then they don't care to see it..Its very important to his life, and our team that he is taking these steps of dedication..
He was really good in 2010 and I expect him to be really good in 2011, that's what I know (for now). It's actually kind of a shame that we don't have any needs at the WR position. This is the one position that probably got victimized the most by the whole "there's no CBA so we don't want to give you an extension" thing. There are some really interesting talents out there. Makes me wonder if the Patriots will take advantage and load up like they did in 2007 when they pounced on Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth all in one off season. They didn't even stop there either, if you recall they stole Kelley Washington from us on top of everything. I'm looking out there I see a ton of available talent. You have some lower level interesting guys like Laurent Robinson and Devin Aromashodu. There's Plaxico Burress, and I don't care if the man's been in prison, his whole life has changed and he's always been super talented. Prison changed Mike Vick for the better. I think Steve Breaston is a free agent and he's done well in Arizona. There's the enigmatic Braylon Edwards. There's Malcolm Floyd, who has also had stretches of ridiculousness in San Diego with Rivers throwing the ball to him. Santonio Holmes is a UFA and he can achieve premium production if he stays out of trouble. Jacoby Jones has been good with the Texans. James Jones would probably be more productive in Green Bay if he hadn't always had to sit behind Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. Santana Moss is a real interesting free agent option and the real Steve Smith is also going to be available. Mike Sims-Walker is a UFA as well. Then of course there's Brad Smith who people like to talk about. And then you have big swinging richards like Vincent Jackson and Sidney Rice...premium talents that IMO belong right up in that same caliber as Brandon Marshall. They could very well switch teams this off season. With the draft coming before free agency I think this free agency is going to be as need-driven as ever if not more, but sometimes you have to look at this stuff opportunistically. When do you usually see a Sidney Rice available like this without draft compensation? When do you usually see a Marcedes Lewis? I suppose you do see some Marshall Yandas available every now and then but that's still a really good signing. What you DON'T often see is a Doug Free available just after he finally started at left tackle and looked damn good. Ray Edwards and Charles Johnson are really good DEs available. I think Tamba Hali has been franchised so I won't count him. Stewart Bradley is available. Thomas Davis is available. Chad Greenway is available. David Harris is available. Erin Henderson is available. D'Qwell Jackson is available. Ben Leber is available. Takeo Spikes is available. Nnamdi Asomugha is available. Roman Harper is available. Tanard Jackson is available. Johnathan Joseph is available. Danieal Manning is available. Quintin Mikell is available. Eric Weddle is available. Donte Whitner is available. Eric Wright is available. Staring at the list of available QBs and RBs isn't going to make any more attractive options come available to us. But there are definitely other guys that could make the team better over the long term. The Dolphins are only about $12 million under the cap unfortunately. There are a lot of teams that will be picking off those guys. But maybe a few of them get forgotten about long enough to strike a deal? Who knows.
All we know about his work this offseason is what he, and his trainers tell us. Now I'm not saying they're embellishing or lying necessarily, but theres no reason for them not to.
The first part of that article made me want to puke. This dude really thinks we want to read about his life.
but we do know he could not do the things he's doing this year, the previous 2...Thats advantage us, and him.
Good to see Marshall working on his body. I hope he works on his mind too so he can stay focused. This better not be lip service.
I'am gonna tell you why he has drops in his game, whether you or anyone else agrees is a different story, lol...The man refuses to catch the ball using his forearms and body..There are times when the ball is coming at you at a certain angle where it is a safer play to cradle the football with your arms and body...He does not understand this art form of supinating your hands from time to time to secure the football safely, especially when the ball is coming at an angle way below your pec's..
String, this is just a guess but if you look at the article, and the 2nd video down, he is sitting in front of a CrossFit sign...NOW, doesnt mean he is doing it, but alot of pro players do it...as well CrossFit is a very tight knit community, and doesnt want their sh*t pimped out unless you are actively doing it....It isnt a gym or a place, but more a method of training.......I actually submitted a thread here, to see if anybody was doing it.... http://www.thephins.com/forums/showthread.php?62746-Any-Crossfitters-here do some research on it, the workout is brutal, changes everyday, and it incorporates a diet called Paleo, which again if you look at that diet, it in itself is brutal too....he talks about his diet, and how strict it is......I would be interested to see if he is doing CrossFit, somebody should tweet Kelly and ask....
well we don't..but i'am not willing to go as far as calling him a liar as to all the things he's said that he's achieved this offseason from a physical standpoint.
No bro, it's been reported and I mentioned it in a thread that he hired and has been privately working with a running coach all off-season to increase his speed.
OK. And if you look at the top-10 WRs in the NFL, I'm sure they are all doing the same. Its not anything special, or out of the ordinary.
This is the first offseason he really can do such training since his early Denver days, his hip injuries have generally prevented him from participating, recall last TC he was on the Tour De Davie bike ride?
Better than him not doing anything....especially with no team interaction allowed...I wonder how many people will show up out of shape...
But, we are comparing this off-season to his previous two. If we take him at his word, this one is different and it seems reasonable to hope for improvement because of it. And he was pretty good last year; improvement could push him back up into the upper echelons of WRs.
What excites me about what hes doing is, when an elite athlete doesn't just rely on their natural talent they can achieve great things on and off the football field..It opens their eyes to so many things, intense offseason training that is.
Pretty scary that a bad season from Brandon Marshall is 88 catches and 1000+ yards.. and now he's supposedly in the best shape he's ever been. I'm sure Chad Henne will still manage to overthrow him a few times a game though.
It doesn't hurt, but think physical training can be over emphasized over learning new football skills Deej, like footwork or hand placement and hand speed and some martial arts techniques to wear down defenders. Everyone in the NFL is a physical specimen, it is the level of skill that seperates say Marshall from Roberto Wallace.
I I can agree with that, There should be a nice balance of sport and position specific training, as well as other techniques to include the secondary muscles and to keep things fresh..
How about a big play or two. I would also like to see some broken tackles. That is what Marshall is built to do. His YAC average and his low TD output proves these things didn't happen last season.
I actually do agree, I still thought we got a good receiver out of him last season but we didn't get Brandon Marshall, didn't really see him break tons of tackles like I saw in Denver. Hopefully that was all a result of him being off his game as far as explosiveness and speed.. we'll find out soon enough.
Imo, Marshall was not healthy enough to live up to the expectations that he had coming in, he also did not act in the manner that a man should act after receiving one of the highest contracts in history at the position, the first problem it looks as though he's rectifying thru an excellent offseason program for his body, the 2nd problem, will see if he has grown up.
Keep in mind as well, much better Defenses in the AFCE then AFCW, the Jets, Pats and Bills all invested heavily in cornerbacks and they overall have better DefCord's. My itch about Marshall is the routes he was given to run simply did not suite what he does well, he is a downhill type of player and they played him like Greg Camarillo.
