Cam Wake drama? How about a trade for Chris Johnson?

Noticed that Drew Rosenhaus commented on Cam Wake's contract situation, mainly saying "he is being paid back up money".

Which, I tend to agree with, he should garner at least starter money and it would probably be in his interest to sit out until at least he received starter money.

That said, how about a trade between the titans and dolphins?

    We'd send:

    Wake, and a #2 pick

    For

    Chris Johnson
    Vince Young
    PTBNL or late rd pick

Now to me, Wake is worth a #1 and a #3, franchise tag picks, but the draft is such a crap shoot a starting Rb who is a top 3 back, a Qb, and say Tim Shaw a ST daemon, would be a decent enough trade.

    Or

    The Eagles:

    Wake

    for

    Kolb
#1 pick that would figure to be a later #1 from #25-#32, which to me is more or less early second rd value.

Trade Wake for CJ and Young (who is going to be released anyway), man you are starving for new topics to suggest this.

That first trade won't happen and trading him for Kolb(A.J Feeley 2.0 IMO) won't be a good idea at all.

No, it was designed to make one think Mr C, something you apparently did not do, which of course means my idea failed...for you.

CJ is worth 2 #1's and probably a starter.

That is where the #1 pick would come in, both trades feature at least Competition for Henne, and either excellent current value, or future value.

Bring on Kolb, if he fails, we still have the #1 pick, bring in Young and if he fails we'd have CJ for 4 or 5 yrs and fill a immediate need on ST.

Such a trade would also mean Misi would move to the WOLB, and the Sam job would be wide open.

Trading Wake would make that "great" defense, a very bad defense. It's predicated on creating pressure and he's really a biggest weapon. He'd cripple that unit. Chris Johnson wouldn't make our offense great at all.

I just don't see great value in running backs. They are a dime a dozen IMO. Would it be great to have one of those types? Ya. You can find those in the draft in any round.

A 2,000 yd running back is a dime a dozen?

Come on now, he is on a Eric Dickerson type of pace, and not a one yr wonder.

I'm "thinking" along with you there Padre. :) What the hell is going on with "Tim Brown" running wild in returning kicks in the CFL? I would have thought he would have needed crutches. JK/LOL

I see pass rusher as a very valuable position. I see rb as a fungible position. Yes, CJ is a great player but the odds of any back having a long career are slim so it doesn't make sense to trade valuable pieces for them except on Madden. It's just a position that takes too many hits and gets injured too often. I also think CJ is a bit of a malcontent. I think he is much more likely to hold out than Wake. Young will be released anyways so he's not worth trading for. So I see that trade as a more valuable position and less drama for a less valuable position and more drama.

I wouldn't trade a 3rd for Kolb so theres no way I would give up an elite pass rusher for him.

I don't see any scenario where a team that is worried about their pass rush gives up their only pass rusher unless it's for Brees or Rivers or for a QB on that level.

I would argue that a straight-up trade of Cam Wake for Chris Johnson is not a fair deal for the reasons spelled out by Rafael. How many 1st round draft picks in the past five years been spent on pass-rushers? How many first round draft picks in the past five years have been spent on RBs? I would argue that the pass-rushers outnumber RBs by a 5:1 ratio. Why? Because its very difficult to find excellent, much less elite pass rushers. Finding excellent RBs is not very difficult. Yes, CJ is elite, but pass-rushers are more important and harder to find.

I think those are the expectations this year. Last year they finished 6th in terms of yards despite being young and inconsistent. I don't personally favor that method. but it is a measure that makes "great defense" a reasonable expectation. IMO they can become a great defense if they start generating TOs. Seeing how many potential INTs they had their hands on last year it seems reasonable to think they can bring more of those down next year. Especially since at least a couple of the DBs (Smith and Davis) have reputations for having decent hands (for DBs anyways). Generally when players like that get past the point where they're thinking so much the INTs come. I do worry that we don't have anybody who is a true ball hawk at the S position though.

I wouldn't be in favor of trading Wake for anything other than an obscenely one-sided deal or an elite QB. Elite pass rushers don't grow on trees. And he's the only one we've got.

Running backs -- even 2,000 yarders -- aren't as valuable or as good an investment.

I find it strange that the #1 RB in all of football is not worth Cam Wake, who is not worth a new contract now.

Yes. Chris Johnson is a very good RB, and he may put up some amazing numbers. However, the trade off isn't worth it. He wouldn't bring enough value to our offense, for the negative impact Wake leaving would bring. The problem with our offense isn't RB. It's there are multiple problems, with RB being one of them. Bringing in Chris Johnson at the expense of the best player on our defense, wouldn't improve the team.

You have a better chance of finding the next Chris Johnson than you do the next Cam Wake IMO.

Hence the quotation marks. Many fans like to consider it a great defense. It's a good defense and losing Cam Wake would make it a below average defense.

I don't think anyone would say CJ is still the clear-cut #1 RB in football.

There's about 10 different guys who could all take that title this year and very few people would be surprised.

CJ isn't as dominant of a player as Wake, imo. He's not a moron either, which is nice.

BC has a knack for finding guys who are 5'6=5'8, run 4.4 or 4.3's and are amazing KR's..

As for the trade proposal, iirc CK mentioned he thought Wake was worth a #1 pick, so to me a deal for CJ would be in our favor.

Of course I do not over value draft picks, I think a great GM is more important then high draft choices.

If either of these scenarios plays out I would ask for Irelands resignation the second he signed off on it. Kolb is not nearly as proven as Henne, and Johnson is not worth it when they just spent a fairly high pick on a Rb in this past draft.

I have a stinky feeling Young might end up here anyway so no thanky

Not to mention that no buisiness can go on in the NFL at this time so Wake may be the first priority when it is...

well I am going to say this. wake was a stud or at least I thought i heard great things. if this isnt true then my head is hurting we need to keep our defensive line intact because i will go watter wiggle on mr ross and company if we draft one olineman and cut two defensive linemen and that has been our issue with the oline.

    So here is my suggestion.

keep Ronnie ,Thomas and Williams and cut the other guys or package them in a big time trade but the problem is there isnt any action so this is all pointless in this juncture in time.

I want one more tightend and vince young and a nother defensive tackle and i am satisfied.

It doesn't make much sense to trade Wake when we really don't have anyone to step in and give us anything close to what he brings to the table. His contract situation shouldn't be a big issue, he has had one big year he can't expect us to pay him like someone that has been doing it for years. He was in the CFL a few years ago and we took a chance on him, gave him a shot and some money so he shouldn't be looking to bend us over. He'll get paid if he has another big year. If we packaged Wake in on some mega deal to get us our franchise Qb that would be about the only deal I'd get on board with and I don't see anyone out there that is available thats worth it.

Elite edge rushers > Elite RBs

A guy who gets 14 sacks in his first season as a starter is absolutely worth a new deal.

I did think...that it's too far fetched an idea to give much thought to. Except this...when has a team benefited from making a big trade for a top RB in his prime? Ricky Williams, Eric Dickerson, Herschel Walker, even going back to Ollie Matson. Didn't help the Dolphins, except make them more exciting for 2 years, didn't help the Colts, didn't help the Vikings and in Matson's case, didn't help the Rams.

Matson was a star RB in the 1950s. He was traded by the Chicago Cardinals to the Los Angeles Rams after the 1958 season, for 4 veteran players and 3 draft picks in 1959 and 2 in 1960, one of which was DB Willie West who later played for the Dolphins, fwiw.

As I recall, the Pats did not make a blockbuster trade for Dillon, just a 2nd round pick. The Pats won the Super Bowl the year before Dillon, then again the first year with Dillon. This was an example of retooling with a quality veteran at a reasonable price. Which is not what is being suggested in the OP. The Pats got one great season out of Dillon, then he fell back to earth the next two. His first season equaled his 2nd and 3rd seasons in NE combined. Still a 2nd rounder is a great deal for a vital piece to a Super Bowl winner.

    Put it this way.....

Do you think the Steelers would trade LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons or James Harrison for Chris Johnson?

An elite RB hasn't gotten them to two of the last three Super Bowls. Rather, an elite QB and an elite defense built on pressure and physicality.

NE was already a damn good team and really didn't give up much, just a 2nd round pick for what was already an elite RB. Not like the two 1st's we gave up for RW, who at the time had a much less impressive resume that Dillon did...

NE has a history of pulling off good deals, us, not so much.
