Jeff Ireland has a little work to do, and some decisions to make. In addition to Henne, other Phins scheduled to be FA after this season are Polite, Berger and Hilliard on O, Soliai, Langford, Merling, Crowder, Culver, and Amaya on D.

Soliai has been given the franchise tag, if it hold up, for 2011. The team will be given 30 days after a new agreement to opt out of the Marshall deal, a very remote possibility as of now. We also have had preliminary talks on extending Wake, who is under contract through 2012.

Soliai and Langford are must sign's. Merling and Crowder are wait and see. Amaya has shown some flashes, and he with Hilliard are good ST players who are worth keeping. Berger, Polite, and Culver are likely gone.

Most will disagree here. IF we could get a WR as good as Marshall for the same money, who is not a big distraction, I would make the move. Again, a very remote possibility. Ireland HAS TO extend Wake.

That leaves Henne, who I would extend now. If he takes the next step, we have a VG financial deal. The worst case scenario is having a young vet backup with starting experience or even trade bait. I can't see a down side.

Or if a new regime comes in they could be saddled with a horrible contract tying them to an overpaid backup QB that thwarts their efforts to build the team up.

I agree Wake should not even be up for debate. SIGN HIM NOW !

It would depend on the cost and also who we end up with in addition to Henne. As of now I don't see us getting a QB anyone would want more than Henne. If he is not the answer, he would still have value. JMO

Agree with everything you said on the defensive front.

I can't imagine them not paying Wake and Langford.

    Sidney Rice might be available...

Otherwise I wouldn't let him go anywhere. Marshall is an elite WR in the right offense (ie not last years). Whoever ends up as QB the next few years, Marshall would be a huge help and would make the offense much more dangerous.

We should be in VG shape money wise. I can't find much contract info past 2009 but we have a lot of money coming off the books in Penny, Ronnie, Ricky, Grove, Smiley, Cam, Ferg, J Allen, and dead moey from Porter, Wilson, etc.

Long, Marshall, and Dansby have big contracts which are worth it. Carey at $4M this year, $5M next year, and Bell at $3.7M this year, $4.3M next year may have something to worry about. Either way there's plenty to keep Wake, Langford, and Soliai happy, in addition to signing who we want in FA.

Vincent Jackson was the one WR I preferred over Marshall, still do. Same age, same size but Jackson can go deep, few drops, and fewer problems.

Thanks, All the sites I used to get info from, including this one, no longer have the cap/salary numbers. The info has been pretty much blocked by the NFL and NFLPA, from what I've been told.
