Should this 2011 Dolphins team be on HBO's Hard Knocks?

The Buccaneers just declined so HBO is looking for an NFL team (I believe our Dolphins still qualify) to take up the summer with. Personally, I'd love to see our team on it this year. I mean expectations couldn't be any lower. Do you think HBO's crew being around the team would affect them negatively? The players are pretty well surrounded by media during training camp anyway. I think Stephen Ross is missing a big opportunity from a marketing perspective if he doesn't attempt to land this. Certainly, Bill Parcells wouldn't have allowed this to happen, but he's no longer here. Sparano would obviously be against it, but it's not his call. Thoughts?

Any team that has appeared on Hard Knocks has failed to make the Super Bowl. Ergo we should avoid it. :)

Actually I'm not opposed to it. Teams who have appeared on Hard Knocks usually come out of the experience as a closer knit unit. Look at what the Bengals did a few years ago and the Jets last season. They've used it as a springboard to successful seasons.

...aaaaand that's as far as the camera crew gets. The rest is commentary.

No. Ireland would never let it happen for good reason. Too much drama + its nice to have some secrets.

I like the idea, then think about giving Brandon Marshall a public platform and know better.

what's the worse that can happen? We become the laughing stock of the league and mocked at every turn? After that Jim Harbaugh debacle, I believe we're already there.

I'd like it. I think it would be nice to get to know the players on our team a bit more personally. Hopefully they don't embarrass us though a la Santonio Holmes.

Nah, rarely is mentioned in the tidal wave of lockout stuff.

As for the worst the can happen, put it this way, what is the best that can happen?

Not sure if that would help the team though.

Now I'd love to hear some more Sparanoisms, like "buckle dem chin straps ya prima donnas" and to see if, you know, Chad Henne actually feels pain and how hard Cam Wake works out, but still, not seeing where that would help the team win games.

Keeping secrets hasn’t exactly helped us out the last few years.

But I agree it’s not going to happen. That sort of attention is anathema to Spireland.

Young players lose focus and derail their development? I dont think there is a necessarily destructive effect from doing the show. It just takes away time from other, more productive things IMO.

I still hate HBO for canceling Deadwood, but if the Dolphins were on Hard Knocks it may help ease some of ill will I feel toward the network.

I'm not sure I'd want to see what Tony Sparano's thoughts are on national TV...something about that old quote about better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it.

I don't think we should let anyone take a hold of our narrative. The media has already ****ed this team over with BS reporting. Let's keep quiet, take the field, and kick some green ***.

If that has a chance of happening, then all the more reason to do it as a test... plus, think of how this could help us prepare for Super Bowl week... :couch:

I'll be the wet blanket and remind everyone that Sparano said "never" last season.

As for young players being distracted, I point to Rex Ryan's comments last time around. He noted that practices were collectively better, effort was better and players were sharper. The cameras caused guys to step their game up. Everyone wants to be their best on national television.

Sparano also said Gibril Wilson was his guy, two weeks before he was released IIRC.

Brother we both know these two things are completely unrelated.

One speaks to who he is at his core. The other is one example of many in which this coach goes to bat publicly for his players. That is also who he is at his core.

The only time this team shares information is when they're deliberately leaking it. They subscribe to 'one voice' and players are discouraged from talking to the media. If Hard Knocks ever came to town, it would be a direct edict from Stephen Ross forcing it down their throats. This is the LAST thing in the world this regime would allow if they have any say whatsoever.

Maybe the King Carl/Bill Cowher regime will be more receptive. ;)

Apparently the Falcons want to be on it. Mike Smith, a pretty strict coach... Dimitroff was on the radio this week and is open to the idea.

after the harbaugh/sparano situation and everything that went down, given miami´s FO hate for the media, this would be a great move to show the world that we are good guys and i would be thrilled about it,the competition at QB with Henne and whoever is brought in, the RB situation, the OL situation at both Guard and C spots, the speed of edmond gates, the mouth of Channing Crowder, the practice habits of Jake Long/Cameron Wake, who talks trash the most, of course the Marshall guy getting some attention, why would be anybody against seeing this ?
