this seems to be the pattern. Go up 25%, drop 12%, go up 30%, drop 15%, etc.

Ten years ago, I recall gas off I-95 in Georgia being .99 a gallon

two steps backward, one step forward

I never purchased a gallon of gas for less than a $1. I'm honestly not sure if it was ever under $1.50 after I got my license.

I'm just thankful my work reimburses me for gas expenditures that are attributable to work.

Yes sirrrreeee lets run up the price 20 cents so we can cut it back 50...................only in America

    We are suckers

Oh wait!! The run up was because there is a potential that the Mississippi flooding may in a week or two shut down a refinery. Better to raise the price of the gas that cost what it cost to produce a month ago, NOW, so that the oil companies don't get ripped;)

I suspect we'll look back on this era at the ends of our lives and realize that magnitude of the financial raping we suffered at the hands of oil companies (and for that matter, health insurance companies). Too many smoke and mirrors right now, other than that they are making the sorts of profits per minute that would make A-Rod feel broke.

I remember filling up gas for $.98 a gallon in Ohio at July 1996. It cost me about $6.00 - $7.00 to fill my Geo Metro!! :D

When I was 17 gas was 79 cents per gallon this was 13 years ago and somehow these companies are allowed a 500% increase since then.

I agree with Poc, one day we will realize how bad we were taking it in the keester from these crooks.

Anywho, this is very much like the late 70's ATM, high gas prices, high unemployment, not very much good happening for most people economically.

They do that so we'll think they have our best interests at heart. However, over time, it's a helluva increase for them. Along with the crude price flucuation, the price rises quicker than it falls generating somewhat of a windfall in that process.

I agree with the pattern you describe but I don't believe gas has been anywhere near $1 since before the gulf war. I remember paying a buck or there about and then it jumped about 65 cents as soon as the war started.
I do remember buying gas for a quarter back in the early 70s tho. Shoot, $2.50 and you could ride darn near forever.

Well, when the oil companies were pressed about their ridiculous [again] profits against the current price at the pump, they said that they didn't make that much profit form the pumps as if in an attempt to take the heat off from lowering pump prices.
