I am in the western part of the state of NC, ususally go by FinFan4Life and I am a Duke Fan and think UNC plainly sucks. But that is the nature of the beast I suppose on tobaccco road. Duke BB and Canes FB, Miami NFL, Astros MLB, Feyenoord Dutch Eredevisie, and Celtics NBA..

 

That other SICK Tarheel fan is around here somewhere, Byroan, but other than his allegiance to them he is a great person..t

 

Don't live there. However every other year my wife and kids, along with ALL of the in-laws spend a couple weeks vacation in the Outer Banks. Nice place. But the real story is inside behind closed doors. My wife has 2 sisters and a brother. The brother is single, but both sisters are married, and each of us has 3 kids. Next add their mom and dad in. !!!!! We all have our own routine and our own parenting style and philosophy, and some of us are ....less tolerant than others. The last time we were there was 2 years ago, and it was a vacation to forget. One sister got mad at the other over some kid issues. This resulted in her and her husband and kids packing up and leaving after 2 days.
My other connection to NC is that my oldest daughter's boyfriend is in the Air Force and stationed out there. He's stationed at get this.... Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. No really. I'm not making that up! What were they thinking ?

 

Outer banks are oustanding, I agree..took my daughter there when she was about 5, want to go again, but you know, strange as it may sound, with me living in NC, it takes twice the time to get to the NC coast for me as to Charleston SC...t

 

Yeah, my kids like the NC coast better than FLA - I told them that was blasphemy. But they like that it's windy and less muggy.

 

Yup, what a punishing drive that was! I wasn't the slightest bit impressed with the OBX, but to be fair, I was probably there during the wrong time of year. Thanksgiving, the weather was drab, making the drab colored homes seem even more drab. Everything was closing or closed, except for a nice hopping family joint on Ocracoke. It was about 8 freaking hrs to get there from here, and all I could think of afterwards were all the nice and numerous places I passed to get there.

of course i'm a tarheel fan, is there any other option? i think not.

 

no excuse! i drove from miami!

 

no complaints, nor excuse just a COMMENT just a long drive.....senseless really, if they would just finish the interstate to the coast and not end it in the Raleigh area.

btw I was born in Miami, and no way in heck would I ever drive back there...ahah

 

We went end of July 1st of Aug...I was more into photographing the light houses and such but it was ok..I am a BIG hater of any beach, sand, saltwater, but do it for the kids. I hate beaches so much because I spent so much time in the Corps, crawling around in it and cleaning from it and so forth. Love being on the water tho, as I spent many years working pushboats out of the Houston ship channel.


I see you are from Hilton Head, another nice place...we will be down near there in June, a week at Hunting Island....one of the nicer places that I sort of like...t

 

oh its a VERY long drive....12-15 hrs but we didnt have to pay for a rental car and didn't have to pay for flights....so we broke out pretty good money wise....just be prepared to be in the car for awhile lol


p.s. that trip was worth every second

 

Oh yeah, we drove to disney from here and back...ok going down but coming back, major construction and backups for over 100 miles on 95(think that was the main highway),....that was a pain....ugh!..but drove to daytona 3 years in row for the Pepsi 400 and that is a long drive and then to see a sign that says 300+miles more to miami? enough to dampen the spirits
