I think Carey is in roster jeopardy as well, not for the reasons Volin lists, rather microfracture surgery is the main culprit. As for Lou, afaik Daboll kept a full time FB in Cleveland in Vickers? http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...-who-could-be-surprise-cuts-in-training-camp/
that would put a damper on the "we could have moved Carey to LT instead of drafting Long" arguments that have been going on lately.
Well, BV thinks John Jerry would be on the bubble as well, which makes no sense as we only have 4 tackles..in total..would they really waive two of them? Count on Nate Garner THAT heavily? Not seeing it, Murtha though, is a plus athlete so backup LT would not be out of the question imho
Really? Merling maybe? McDaniel is leaving, we only added Kearse via the Draft, that leaves the Baker Bros, Rose, and ??? to be waived?
I suspect they really like Nolan Carroll as he both returns kicks and can play a soilid boundary corner when SS24 moves to FS to handle Te's, but I also think that is underestimating Will Allen's abilities, for example he is the best blitzing Cb I have ever seen.
Bakers, Rose, Kearse if he doesn't show potential, Dotson, and maybe a surprise cut. Thats 6 cuts right there possibly. Marlon Moore is going to get cut. He is ****ing terrible.
I'm worried about Will Allen. We IR'd him last year during TC, meaning he was nowhere close to healthy. Then he takes a pay cut to avoid being cut, does a healthy Will Allen take a pay cut? I don't think so, but I'm hoping I'm wrong.
WA has been out almost 2yrs, if his knee issues have not cleared up now he may as well get a replacement knee and call it a career. They liked WA enough to pay him 3 millie to sit on the IR in 2010.
Hmm, R Baker is the #5 dlineman, who would they replace him with? C Baker is the #3 NT, could be the #2, as he played for Nolan in Denver and can play DE, Dotson is floating around ATM, he was released after 2010 but OMark said he was told he would be back. Kearse is practice squad material. Or just raw, they do have an eye for UDFA Wr's, and the ghost of Anthony Armstrong looms with him,.
Vernon Carey deserves to have an open competition placed at his feet..I just watched him get beat strait up, on 3 consecutive plays, all pass rushes, all one on one, 3 strait, almost getting our QB killed, and completely destroying a drive....dude is slow, lethargic, and fat. We must upgrade from Benny Sapperpuss.. he cost us games.I'll take my chances with will or carroll, or a free agent if need be.

Charles Clay. a man of many talents, he could surprise!
No, Marlon Moore sucks. Ive watched every game through NFL Rewind and the Film Room sections too with Moore on the field. HE ****ING BLOWS. He plays Football so slow. He may have a fast 40 time but he is slow as crap on the field.
Unless Carey has a career threatening or severely damaging injury, he's not in any danger. He's been an elite RT when he hasn't been injured. He had a down year this year, but he was playing through injury. Polite had a bad year last year. I think its arguable he was a victim of greater problems, but if he doesn't return to form he's in trouble. I wouldn't write him off though...keeping multiple fullbacks on a roster is much more frequent than people seem to think. I agree that there might be some moves on the DL. Odrick is going to eat a lot of snaps next season that guys like McDaniel, Merling, etc. got last year. He was the starter going into the season, and they thought their best 3 involved him over a Paul Soliai they knew to be at least a solid starter. If Odrick gets the maximum snaps they are likely willing to give a player in his position in this offense, DE is basically gonna be a 3-man rotation. I think Yeremiah Bell is pretty possible. He ended up with a pretty good season after a rocky start last year, but they've positioned themselves to replace him. AJ Edds is basically there to take his role as a Nickel package LB, and Reshad Jones looked pretty good when they worked him in.
Wouldnt that come with experience? As with in every profession? As a bank teller, dont you think you'd be quicker after being on the job a long time, and not needing to think about the basic little things? What about a sub maker at subway? Who would be better someone making sandwiches for 3 years or some noob on the job for the first time? His natural speed will get better and better as he continues to grow, learn the route tree, learn defenders tendencies, and learn his quarterbacks tendencies (he and henne did not play catch alot i assume moore was the wr with thigpen and pennington during practices) So I am willing to see if he pans out.
Well you have watched the rewind games, I'm just going off of memory, but it seemed like he dropped 3 or 4 deep balls when he was wide open, he just did not come down with the ball, he could clean that up, along with game speed issues.
BV was not incorrect when he said Murtha mentioned we will see more Zone Blocking this yr, not sure if that is Carey's forte anyway, add in the knee issues and he could be on that bubble. Agreed, especially if no true blocking Te emerges in TC, Polite would become a Te/Fb type. Hard to tell with Merling, he was tough enough to come back from a torn achilles in the same yr, and they have had one surprise on the Dline every yr since they took over. Imo, Nolan had a great yr in 09 with Brian Dawkins at SS, and he was an old 35, YB's real problem may be he just does not create enough turnovers, something RJ showed he could do in limited reps. Plus, the way Irish does things is he signs FA's after clearing room by cutting Vets with similar salaries, that can also put YB, VC and Lou on the bubble, Lou P though, has no real competition at FB after Deon Anderson was waived.
Friend GM: and there are those that simply didn't get it & would argue until the cows come home against the obvious... rest assured, Chad Henne will step & throw the ball this year or parish. I wish him luck! we need to acquire another QB & let them compete. wouldn't be surprised to see three QB's in the stable before long.
No. He sucks. He is not fluid at all when he runs, he's stiff as hell for someone with so much called speed. He has terrible hands and doesn't know how to catch the ball cleanly. On top of that his body control sucks in the air.
I was never really impressed with Moore when he was on the field. He was only activated 9 times last season and that was because of the injuries to Marshall and Hartline. I just don't see how someone can make a team when they can't find a way to be productive on offense when they are activated and when they can't play STs. 6 catches in 9 games? Give me Marshall-Hartline-Bess-Gates- and an open competition between Wallace, Pruitt, Carter, Foster, and any UDFAs.
Why would we cut Carey? Unless he gets hurt I would think he would have some trade value. Didn't Ireland get late round picks from the Rams for back-up OL a few years back.
Why cuts when you can trade? We have depth and talent , for the life of me I don't see why we would not utilize that to strengthen the team.
My surprise cuts from Dolphin camp? How about the camp itself. Collingsworth stated in a report today that he believes the season is in complete risk of not occuring if the stay is not lifted by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. His opinion is his opinion, but it was noteworthy and may reflect what others in the business of football think and are not saying. Collingsworth has generally always spoken his mind.
kudos Friend Lee2000, kudos! you're right on the money with this one. "... the season is in complete risk of not occuring if the stay is not lifted by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals." your post is thread-worthy
No, DJ! Don't say that! Vernon Carey is great, he's wonderful, you can't criticize him! He doesn't get pushed back to the QB by guys he outweighs by 100 pounds! He's ELITE!!!
He first appeared on injury reports leading up to the Bears game, when his play fell off. It's difficult to say exactly when his injury occurred given the front office. (See: Clemons, Chris)
Or, you know, we could have an argument debating the relative merits of the question at hand using facts. Hahaha just kidding. Everyone else will do that.
I just get mad at players who could be better but choose not to be to be their best, and I believe that is the case with Vern.. A strong case. Could be made that he could be in better condition, and that his poor condition does take away some of his quickness and has caused some of his injury problems...he looked brutal on those three consecutive plays..schooled by a rookie and a foote...
I can't find where I read it, but a while back I believe I read that if the Dolphins cut Carey it would be something like a $7 million cap hit. I seriously doubt they're cutting him. He's also a lot better than people give him credit for. I find it amusing how every year people hypothesize about how he won't be coming back. Vernon Carey is as solid as it gets at RT and it could be argued (and has by many publications and experts) that he's one of the best RT's in football. We've all seen how it's not as easy as it seems to plug holes on the offensive line. I don't see any reason why you'd give yourself the burden of trying to replace him. Even if you believe Murtha is a solid/good player, who's going to back him up? That would leave the Dolphins with very little depth on their line.
Well, there's no salary cap right now, don't know if they'll be one in the future. The fact that Lydon Murtha's name is being floated rather than say, Nate Garner as a potential starter should pretty much send up a big, shining boat flare that this shouldn't really be taken seriously.
IDK, stranger things have happened, do seem to recall the birdie mentioning the m word concerning his knee, but they hoped rest would do the job, I suspect Murtha will be the swing tackle with Garner pushing him, or John Jerry who was a T for most his time in college. I think I'm not opposed to all 3 pushing Vern C for his job, as in my view RT is the new position of testing by defense, why put your best pass rusher on the All Pro tackle when you have a relatively unathletic RT's in the league with no TE help?
Vernon Carey isn't going anywhere. If he was they would have cut him before the lockout to avoid the cap hit from his large signing bonus. Very very likely when teams can start cutting/adding players again there will be a cap in place. I just hope they find a way to light a fire under Carey and actually have him show up at a real 330 pounds and not the 330 pounds on paper, but 355 in reality like years past. Hopefully last years injury woes make him realize he needs to take better care of himself. Murtha on the other hand was pure crap and I don't see him being on the roster come opening day.
Cap or no cap (and I do feel there will be one eventually for the 2011 season), that's still $7 million you're going to eat if you cut him. My point is, either way you're going to be paying him a lot of money in 2011, might as well get his services out of it. And that's assuming they were down on his play which I don't believe to be the case.
Epitaph on a headstone, Boot Hill Cemetery, Tombstone, Arizona: "Here lies Lester Moore Four shots from a .44 No Les, no more"
The reason Murtha's name is being floated is because of his recent radio comments to Big O, that he will be competing for the starting RT job. Gotta like the young man's confidence, if nothing else.
