For all of the hand wringing over Ryan Mallett's father saying "he is gonna get them dolphins!!!" the closer problem, Tyler Thigpen joining the Bills and Chan Gailey remains unaddressed, Thigpen had a solid yr for Gailey's Chiefs in 2008 and would be a good fit in Buffalo and more likely to play against us than Mallett.

For as good a year as Thigpen had in 2008, Fitzpatrick was better last year. I personally don't think Thigpen would beat him out, and subsequently would have just as much chance to play us as Mallett.

Maybe we could trade them Thigpen for Maybin? Sure Thigpen is probably more valuable, but if he doesn't want to be here his value to us should be lessened.

Eh, a sign and trade in the NFL?

They did tender Thigpen an offer and I'd prefer not to see him go to the Bills as I suspect they will cut Maybin anyway.

Dolphins tendered him as a 2nd rounder. I hope the Bills sign him.

That offense is built for guys like Thigpen and Fitzpatrick who are willing to throw that ball everywhere without worrying about outcome.

Exactly. If anyone wants thigpen Id give him away and pay them a 7th to take him. Terrible is not even the word. If Buffalo or anyone else wants him, please, be my guest

Remember the Bears game when Thigpen was thrown under the bus. How many times did we run the ball. When down 3-0 then 6-0 then 9-0.
Put together a drive.... Not Tyler's fault really.

Yep, I DEFINITELY remember that game. I was pissed off to the highest level of pisstivity!!!

    Freezing friggin cold in Chicago...
    Back-up QB starting the game...
Two all pro running backs on your team...
Tight game til the 4th quarter...
We ran the ball...SEVEN times the entire game...

And you lay the blame on Tyler Thigpen???????

Dan Henning lost that game for us...as he did so many others last season.

I know running the ball seven times is not ideal, however every lineman on the team was either injured or a back up.

So then it was ok for the line to have to block for Thigpen 27 times then? C'mon Dupree, are you serious brother? There were a number of packages the Dolphins could have put in to try and run the ball more than they did. Tight end, double tight end, wildcat...SOMETHING. Dan Henning never gave the Ricky nor Ronnie a CHANCE to make something happen.

Hell, Thigpen accounted for 27 of the Dolphins 39 yards rushing that game. Ricky and Ronnie...6 carries total for a whopping 11 yards, that's 3 carries each for hte entire game. Are you serious? I know the OL was banged up. I got that, but the Dolphins still fielded and offensive line that blocked for Thigpen 27 times. If they could block for a 3rd string QB 27 times, surely they could have blocked for Ricky and Ronnie more than just 6 times don't you think?

Not defending Thigpen, but I wouldn't say he sucks. Dan Henning on the other hand...GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!

And my mistake Omenal...you're right that game was in Miami.

thigpen is not a match for this offense ... we all 'thought' he might be a 'WC' option - but that never materialized ... as a QB; i don't see how he fits here ... nor is he even remotely a better option than Henne.

IF we are going to get someone, need that person to be an experienced, starter who has won in the league ... NOT Thigpen ...

Thiggy is an odd duck Killah, it is either love, or hate, his game.

For me with Vern C injured and Long playing with one arm, on 4 days rest on Thursday night football, and without running the ball, and with B Marshall out at the half, how exactly was he supposed to do much more than what he managed to do against a team that made the NFC Championship Game?

I'd like to see him have a straight up chance to start, not with a banged up team lacking an Oline.

what makes so many so posters on this forum confident that...

    1) Thigpen is a bust? maybe both Henne & Thigpen are busts... having said that, Thigpen has not had the opportunity to be a bust that Henne has been afforded. no reason to release Thiggy before we know what he can actually do when given the chance to lead a functioning offense in a game we can win. all Miami ever did was throw Thigpen to the wolves, as they protected the hen.
    2) the allegation: Thigpen can't win the start for Miami if allowed to compete is unfounded & absurd. Henne gets a second & third chance, why not give Thigpen one legitimate chance on a level playing field? let them & whoever else we bring in from free-agency openly compete for the start, the cream always surfaces. no one knows anything @ this point in the discourse. let the position be resolved through honest competition.

I have no dog in this fight, I just want a better football team. to be better we must bring in another veteran QB & allow for the three to compete without prejudice, simple as that... growth through competition

i saw absolutely nothing in Thigpen that tells me he can be a starter in the NFL.

Every reason you can give for why Thigpen sucked in that chicago game can be spun around to show just how good Henne must be to deal with the same stuff and still look like a competent QB most of the time.

Henne has never looked as bad as Thigpen did in that Chicago game.

ditto Henne, Friend CitizenSnips, but they are both NFL QB's.
    it's a conundrum:butthead:
maybe 2011 will be the charm for one or the other. let them compete

one of them is hovering around .500 as a starter. (14-15) We've at least seen signs of competency.

The other is an abysmal 1-11 as a starter.

I don't know how anyone can still root for thigpen. all he does is lose.

    Friend CitizenSnips:

not rooting for anyone. my only concern is that there is competition which will drive the QB stable to higher levels of play. left to his own designs & without the push of competition, I have no doubt the Henne will present the exact same game as last year & that would qualify him as a bust in anybody's book. think about it.
please, these words are not to be misconstrued as an anti-Henne sentiment. it is what it is & nothing less: the guy has a long way to go & competition will hasten his journey. I wish Miami the very best & if Henne is the best he should start.

Thigpen flourished under Chan Gailey in late 2008 & the Bills are interested in him as we post.

who's interested in Henne? just a question... who's interested in Henne? any suitors? what can we get for him in a trade. think about it. the answers are: no one & not much.

Thigpen flourished under Chan Gailey in 2008. nobody knows anything until the guy is given a level playing field upon which to compete.

but he was still 1-10 there. For all his flourishing he didn't even manage to win 2 games.

If the bills want him, we shouldn't hesitate in the slightest way to watch him go.

I don't present Henne or Thigpen or whoever we bring into the stable from free-agency as the answer to the franchise question. my thought is that through real competition we can bring the best out in our QB Stable & possibly have a solid season in 2011. if @ one point or another they have shown promise, let them compete. the best will get better, rising to the occasion & win the start... simple as that. it is the best thing for the team & my only concern
