That's not a highlight reel. That's 2 football games IIRC. lol. I don't think that's too shabby for 2 games.
I don't mind it when it's effective and not killing drives. If he can run it like Brad Smith and NY, then we're good.
Yeah, he does now that you mention it. I see a lot of Steven Jackson to him too, the upright style. Just hope he can stay healthy.
Exactly. This guy was a QB for a number of years so the Wildcat might actually be more effective if they can actually throw and complete a pass at least once a game from it.
Thomas's 40 is better. He has a much better 10 yard split as well. Please, try again though. Daniel Thomas isn't Michael Bush on a bad day because he hasn't even played yet. Again, if he does exceedingly well, please do not share in his glory.
Heres the thing with Thomas - he doesnt LOOK like 230 pounds from the way he runs. Hes more like a 215 pound slasher in a 230 pound body. Hes pretty nimble for such a big guy (also he ran a 4.50 at his Pro day. If he can put his head down as well as he can glide into the hole, then well have a nice addition to the offense. He hits the hole well for a big man - the question is, can he move the pile as well as someone his size is supposed to do.
Call me sub-sophomoric, but I chuckled at the "...can glide into the hole... hits the hole well..." part.
Better video here of Thomas' entire repitiore against Kansas. Carries 5 players in the first carry of the game and breaks tackles throughout. Also shows some nice shiftiness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S92wiR5Bx9A
R&R left a lot of plays & big gains on the field that Thomas would not---- defenders that could've easily been juked with tons of daylight behind them..... saving shoe-string tackles that wouldn't have been if they were a hair quicker..... holes that closed up because they couldn't accelerate through fast enough..... dlineman that caught them from behind while they were dancing or not getting through a hole fast enough. I've been re-watching games, and those 2 really killed us b/c of that stuff IMO.
Thomas wouldnt have done any better last year TP....our interior OL was getting abused. We have Pouncey, time to go get a RG in FA.
Brian Billick is enthusiastic about this kid.
I agree brother-- our oline was getting abused; however during the first 6 or 7 games, there were some nice opportunities that R&R turned into 7-10 yards that should've been game breakers. it's sickening to go back and re-watch when you can take the time to look for it. Do you have NFL rewind Fin?
I dunno, I want to agree with BB, but Thomas doesn't seem to possess the speed of a Matt Forte. Not even close. We'll see if he can outrun any defender at the next level.
I tivo almost all the games on the Sunday ticket. Yea these guys arent gamebreakers but getting hit behind the LOS became a bad habit for both backs. But dont get me wrong their not victims here they had their issue also.
here's back to back runs at 1:43 mark.
I agree. Ronnie was the worst IMO. You can find several running plays where he has a wide open cut back lane and runs as if he's wearing blinders and just lowers his head and plows forward. I saw that just watching the games live. I'm sure even more plays would be found if one rewatches them
I really don't get the animosity toward moving up for this pick. The dude is replacing a back that was picked 2nd OVERALL in the 2005 draft. If moving up to get this guy was a bad move then Ronnie Brown was a total bust.
infuriating isnt it?! I almost wanna stop watching. It's like raking my eyes across a potato peeler....... that I just used on a lime.
Go back to the Ravens game when we went away from the running game. All you need to see. It happened way too often. Since you have it all on tivo..... Its worth a look
lol So then why didn't you just answer Yes when I asked if it was all about speed? If our OL is good enough, any RB can run behind it and put our running game into the top 15. Difference is, a good RB could make it top 5. Lookin like 15 so far.
Who he's replacing doesn't have any bearing on this pick. I think most people are looking at it as a panic move. Personally, I wanted us to move up for an RB. Just not this one.
My only concern is I don't see him breaking very many tackles. In the NFL ..............well you know. Reminds me of Ronnie Brown. There is no doubt we will be playing smash mouth over the left side.
I look at this in another manner. Several times last season, what the team needed was a long sustained drive to end the game for the win. Several other times (well, more than several actually!) the team needed to sustain the drive in the redzone to score more than three. That capacity alone would have won several more games for the team last year. The moves made in this draft were to help with sustaining drives through power running more than hitting long home runs - which are more luck than skill most of the time. 1. A highly probable very good LG in the draft with FA yet to happen, 2. a good (apparently, I don't know the player that well, but from films he appears to be) power running back (third and one with more than a pass option is always good!), and 3. a burner on the outside who probably will draw more attention just because of his speed and the fact that he might catch a ball at the same time and not duck to the sideline at the first hint of an approaching defender! (side point: four wide with Marshall, Bess, Hartline and Gates might be a touch more difficult to defend!) would seem to me to be what this team needed. And, we are not through with adding players yet. There are still some question marks, but... they are a mite fewer than they were in January. Oh, well. Got to run, have work to do!
